  1. Props to Jack for appearing in his signature white t shirt that he wears in like every concert since 1996
  2. kind of interesting considering the timing and naming of this release and another remix album Richard was on: nin “further down the spiral”
  3. i kinda feel like jack is so under-appreciated that i welcome him putting the same top shelf material on multiple releases. people gotta hear this.
  4. this is a pretty good track record. i permit thee to fly free, enjoy this music, go wild, soar.
  5. i tried listening. ya'll are on some shit this is cringe
  6. really enjoying this. i really love how delicate this music is. it's hard to describe bc there's lots of music on line imprint that goes for a soft, quiet sound, but somehow the monochromes series hits different. everything is really distant but with distinctly sensed layers that open up a lot with headphones. it's interesting to me how there are these beautiful threads of noise that arise when certain things fade in (monochrome 25, and monochrome 3 is beautifully noisy) as well as what come across like kick drums or bass sounds (monochrome 4) but somehow the mix is so restrained that these never sound percussive. very much like a distant thunder effect. idk, it's hard to explain why this feels so unique to me. one way of looking at it is in relation to their other releases - none of them sound like this, the other works are way more similar to other computer music i've heard a million times. i think it's hard to identify why certain ambient music works for me better than others but i definitely feel it physically. it creates a physical mood that transports me right away.
  7. waiting for @dr lopez to chime in before i form my opinion

  9. purelink is lush, I’ve definitely played “maintain the bliss” on repeat many times.
  10. the track "can" is such a sick track. i must've listened to this tune several hundred times over the years since it came out. ever since the first listen i always loved the variety of textures on this one. it has all these great mechanical sounds, weirdo insect type shit, whatever the fuck the "bass" line is, and the gorgeous crystal pad. the fuck were these guys smoking? top shelf shit
  11. speak for yourself, i work at the ball destruction factory
  12. this is very nice. if you liked the first one, you’ll like this one. #26 & #27…that’s where it’s at
  13. lol that first track is absolutely rubbish haha
  14. I value music that’s made for the rush, the adaptation, and the general backwardness of the act
  15. in the wake of brian mcbride's passing, i have been (re)visiting some interviews with SOTL and figure i'd share a couple of the comments they've made about not releasing music for 13 years: Come 2008, and the glow of the duo’s critical halo did more to harsh their working practice than the 9,000 kilometres and nine timezones which lay between them. “We felt,” Wiltzie explains, “that there was too much noise around us, as if we had suddenly created something meaningful on a level that felt superficial.” Bravely, they elected to pause. “It’s best to quote Brian here: ‘You don’t want to manufacture longing.’” * To us, too many artists are caught up in this political economy of keeping in the spotlight — like if you don’t put something out every year, people will forget you. But Wagner took 10 years to put out the Rhinegold. Nothing stops. I think it’s more like a problem with the world. The world thinks that as an artist you have to follow this pattern – musicians record, and they go tour, then they go back record, they go tour… For me, I like to do different things. 2007 was the year we put out our last record. Sure, that was nearly ten years ago...For me, just doing something because it’s popular is not really a reason to do something...But you know – we’re still together, we’re still productive, we’re still working on music. Just recording a record to record is not really a reason to record for me. And you have to have a reason behind it. You just make art, because you feel like it. I never wanted it to be like a job. * Working on the music, for me, it’s kind of important to not fake it in some ways, to not try to force this emotional state out of it, to sort of pay attention to what’s going on in your life, if you’re feeling inspired or motivated just letting it happen. Especially after you’ve released a bunch of records for a long time, you don’t want to manufacture longing.
  16. first impressions - a very nice, chill album. I’ll definitely be returning to it and feels like it might open up more as the summer transitions to autumn. definitely the most impressive Slowdive album as far as the mixing and production go; I was especially surprised at how nice the vocals sound, how well they sit very upfront in the mix - quite unusual for them but it sounds really good.
