  1. DUMMY MIX 124 // SND A three hour mix of immersive non-rhythmic sounds from the finest purveyors of steely minimalism. http://www.dummymag.com/mixes/2012/06/06/dummy-mix-124-snd/
  2. Had an apocalypse dream last night where the sun was slowly getting hotter and increasing the amount of radiation on Earth (is this a real thing?). All I could think about was I had to make data discs of all my own music so I didn't lose it, as I was leaving to wander with the other humans, The Road style. At one point I was in my old bedroom with my sister and an unpleasant smell was coming through window. I asked what it was and my sister said it was (won't type his name), one of my line managers at work. His corpse was in our garden beneath the window. Then, later on in the dream, it turned out some people were more sensitive to the radiation from the sun and became what everyone called 'hamstermen'. They were kind of zombies but called hamstermen because their heads and necks swelled (the necks bigger then the heads) and lost their skin, becoming raw and red.My line manager's corpse reanimated itself and became one of these. Even later I was flying around an abandoned shopping centre, throwing things around with my mind. I can't remember if this was part of the same dream or a new one.
  3. Natch! *high five* *sniffs hand* *wipes hand on trousers*
  4. Nice, will check out some more. * of course by 'chain' in my previous post, I meant 'chin' (I do not have a deep dimple in my chain).
  5. Have just started on this (mainly because I like the cover)
  6. lol! That guy's like a cross between a goodfella and one of Frank's crew in blue velvet. One thing I do have some trepidation about when it comes to DE shaving is that I have quite a deep dimple on my chain. Seriously, It's like I've got an extra bellybutton up there. I always need to go over it again and again with a normal razor to get at the recessed bristles and I wonder if I'm gonna end up cutting myself to ribbons with a safety razor.
  7. Yay for that album! I found a copy about five years ago in HMV. They'd filed it with the Madonna CDs. Now I'm wondering why the hell I was looking in the Madonna section.......
  8. Yep. I've stuck the razor in Obel's post on my Amazon wish list for when I get paid. Also found this video of this rather strange gentleman enjoying a late night DE shave. Was oddly enjoyable.
  9. I thought this only happened in the movies. My point exactly. The most I got was my Grandad making a comment after I'd dry scraped the bumfluff off my top lip with my mum's disposable razor. Which of course led to a cavalcade of rancid pimples. My Grandad, being the type of (lovable) arsehole he is, took the piss and guessed correctly what I'd done. He then told me in passing that I needed to wet shave with foam and the like. But without any real instruction. Anyone shave with their Dad's supervision in the bathroom? Fail stories of you trying to work it out yourself are most welcome.
  10. Going back to the OP. I'm interested also if anyone had the whole 'rite of passage' thing of being taught how to shave by an elder male. Like so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhS0PqWGo40
  11. ^^ I almost bought one of those on Ebay a few years ago. Do want.
  12. Yeah, I still need to read Dubliners and Portrait of an artist. Seemed to have developed this habit of deciding to read the most formidable of an author's oeuvre first. Same with Gravity's Rainbow. The name kept coming up over the years and I liked the sound of it (the name I mean) so I decided to buy it because I'd almost finished the book I was reading at work and needed something for the commute home. Realised once I'd started that it's not a book you decide to read casually. Still haven't read any more Pynchon but I found Vineland in a charity shop last week so may start on that when I finish the O'Connor.
  13. Obel's post pretty much kills it. Had thought before about learning to shave with one of these: But the safety razor looks like a far more sensible idea, may have to purchase one of those bad boys. The Sensor Excel I use was sent to me for my 18th birthday by Gillette (how they knew, I don't know) and I've used it for the last 12 years. Think I'm due an upgrade. Also the ritualistic attitude with the brush and soap appeals immensely.
  14. Was wondering how everyone shaved, by which I mean faces. It occurred to me that I worked out my shaving technique myself because I didn't have the older brother/uncle/father figure to show me. For years I've been wet shaving with a Gillette Sensor Excel. Fill sink with hot water and splash my face with it. Apply Nivea shaving gel. I start at my sideburns and work my way towards the middle of my face. Do my chin last as it's the densest with hair, so takes longer and is more unpleasant. Recently I thought "Why do the most unpleasant part last?" So instead have been starting at my left sideburn and working my way across my face to my right sideburn. When I'm done I splash my face with cold water and apply some Nivea aftershave balm. I only shave once a week, if I can be bothered. Get a good beardage on first. What about your good selves? Wet or dry shave? Hand held razor, straight razor, electric? Where do you start and finish? Do you leave any bits (moustache, sideburns, goatee, soul patch, map of canada?) What products do you use? How frequently? Also interested if you were taught by somebody or worked it out for yourself. Ladies are free to join in with this thread, just exchange face for legs or pits (and probably replace brother/uncle/father figure with mother, sister or friend.....one would hope).
  15. There's a guy at my work that I used to work with called Bradley. He's a young, camp, muppet-like, spotty bean-pole with a head the shape of a pickled onion. In my dream last night my girlfriend and I had killed him and planned to eat him. We were rubbing his dead, naked body with maldon sea salt. The way you usually prepare pork belly or similar.
  16. Finished Ulysses over Christmas, which I'd started a month before. Bewildering in a good way. Really enjoyed the surreal/dada brothel part that was written like a play. Thought it would be more impenetrable but found out when researching afterwards that Finnegan's Wake is the hard one. Will probably want to reread it in about six months, which is how I felt after finishing Gravity's Rainbow (still haven't reread that though). One of those books that's just as fun to read about as it is to read. Since finishing that I've read the Wire published writings on Scott Walker book and The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (both xmas pressies) Now reading 'Everything That Rises Must Converge' by Flannery O'Connor. Very enjoyable so far.
  17. This just nearly killed my girlfriend and I.
  18. That's one of the best things I've ever seen! NEED ON T-SHIRT! (lolled when I spotted Eddie)
  19. Yes. Yes. Downloading Gremlins now, because it's one of the all-time great fucked up Christmas movies. Just downloaded Gremlins cuz my girlfriend has never seen it. Turned out to be dubbed in spanish. Now don't have enough internets allowance on my broadband dongle to download another whole film. Don't know whether I should show her Gremlins 2 (which, inexplicably, I have on DVD but not Gremlins) or just put on another film she hasn't seen, like Goodfellas. Probably should've posted this in the FWP thread.
