  1. Can't you hire a lawyer or representative to collect it for you? Pretty sure I've seen that happen on occasion.
  2. It's just a silly jargon that used to be thrown around here. My point was some lottery winners have gotten in serious altercations from denying relatives and acquaintances, up to and including being murdered. People can be horrible. Maybe quit your day job if that's your thing, but be discreet about it and find a good cover story. People with assets tied up in stocks and real estate tend to not get bothered as much.
  3. Hey hoggy, it's me, your long lost twentieth cousin. I heard you quit your job and are living like a king, what's up, wanna reconnect? Also can you help me out with a small loan, I got laid off during Covid and I got a real idiot for a landlord. Promise I'm good for it.
  4. This is the correct and boring answer. Just shove most of it into a couple broad indices and keep living and working like normal. For the rest I'd probably build a studio, start a company around that studio to run on the side, and travel like crazy for a year.

The embossed cloth on Moby Dick is really something else. Really happy to see SPQR has that many pages and loads of illustrations as well.
  6. Thanks, I can breathe again. Shame the other themes are so outdated. It's like browsing watmm through the Wayback Machine.
  7. His best to date, really informative and revealing. These made me a fan of Mary Beard, will be getting her books. The depth of her knowledge, the strict adherence to reliable sources and her enthusiasm are so engaging.

There are so many reasons why I think it's fantastic. It's not an easy read but incredibly rewarding once you start to look into the fathoms below the apparent violent Western story. First of all I just adore the writing style. It's mostly naked, straightforward and somewhat Hemingway-style simple, then you get these very elaborate scenery descriptions, and terrific eloquent dialogue. It takes some getting used to, but McCarthy's style and choice of words are what brings the world to life. There's a strong historical accuracy with practically the whole journey being mapped beforehand according to the historical counterparts. As for the meaning itself it's no use talking here for people who haven't read it, but I believe it's a powerful mix of a few universal themes, and a take on those that gives you a choice. It's very dark and gloomy at first glance but I believe it's way more than just the surface stuff. I'm not just talking about the interpretations of the villain who's always the popular point of discussion, but the symbolism of the other aspects of the story as well. The writing plays with you as well, certain things in a situation are deliberately not spelled out directly which, if you pay close attention, can make you question the actual role and actions of a character. This is genius writing, and to me it's the main reason why it's unfilmable because I would not want to lose that ambiguity. The ending is also the first and only time I felt horror from reading a book page. Like when Alan Moore tells you that stories outlive people and you realise you're reading a page from a story that will outlive you, read in the right frame of mind Blood Meridian will touch you deeply with it's fountain of difficult themes of humanity and the natural world.

His writings aren't all wrong and I believe there was merit to his fears, but none of it is very original and it has been covered by earlier philosophers, ones who didn't overreact with pipe bombs.

I've just ordered a hardcover version of Blood Meridian. It's the best book I've ever read. RIP Cormac McCarthy
  11. It takes Ivan Ooze to tell the truth sometimes! He's still alive and that really matters. You're right that it has soul. I sorely wish I called in sick/took an emergency vacation and just went to the show.
  12. I often think to myself, if a track was posted anonymously on EKT or soundcloud, how would people react. My impression is people wouldn't even bat an eye at this, so it's basically just hero worship. I understand he makes billions of tracks and you have to deduce releasing something like this amounts to fan service, or leaning to a careless image or something like that. It has some DNA of old aphex, and his voice of course, but nothing to take home other than an off-hand release timing with a bunch of liveshows. Lords know he's still got it in releases like CCAI or Collapse, but he obviously doesn't like to try all the time. I never said Cheetah is bad (I still got a wrapped mint cassette) , but it's boring. Dicking around on an obscure DCO rack synth that shows up in listings for €800 is kinda cool in concept, but I can count my full listen-throughs on one hand. BTW enjoying the million reacts.
  13. It's very lacklustre for an artist of his calibre. But I guess it's part of his shtick putting out boring shit every now and again, like Cheetah.
  14. Oh my God. He was a fixture in this forum for me, I'm devastated. Fly high brother!
  15. My mate who lives in copenhagen went and sent me those terrible but lovely 10 second snippets. It looked like he was bringing down the sky. I had work but I'm in tears, should've called in an emergency vacation
  16. I think she's just into that sorta vibe, though the psychoanalysis goes hand in hand with the tough training regimen and diet. She appeared in children's TV after the first win, saying she'd eat all the pasta she couldn't during ESC. This was promptly censored.
  17. I'm guessing the allegations are by angry Finns? These are all standard motifs that occur everywhere. It's not exactly the first time one Trance song sounds like another...
  18. Sorry guys. I was rooting for the little flute guy.
