  1. OMG that's us lot at the end of the Manchester recording! Kinda ironic in a way as it's the first AE we didn't bother recording assuming the soundboards will be out eventually.
  2. Yessssss thankyou! Awesome ;)
  3. This, but the opposite Same. I was increasingly frustrated with Autechre after EP7 and eventually abandoned them by Quaristice. But elseq brought me back into the fold hard and also Exai is one of my favorite Autechre albums. I think there's less variation in their approach since they dumped using hardware. I got only really (ashamedly) properly got into AE around Untillted, Quaristice was also awesome (especially variations), never quite gelled with Oversteps but I felt Move of Ten was much more a fans album which I love. Exai has some top draw stuff but also a lot of so-so which is what I felt about Elseq especially for how much it cost for a download. Personally think the live stuff is something really special and I love to think the bootlegs we've been hammering over the years have had some influence on the release of the proper soundboards from the webshop although I'm still waiting for a definitive Quaristice tour recording. I'm really liking the current evolution of the live sound which is only a week away. Whats the chances of this tour getting on the webshop, i.e. do I have to hold a sweaty recorder all night at Granada studios?
  4. I like this live set, more consistent with some very plush comb filtering action and the arrangement flows better than the last tour. Can't wait for Granada Studios. (Not sure about that church organ drop tho )
  5. Extreame commb filtering with compression gives a similar affect to grain shifting but with a lot control.

Listened to all of them all back to back on a long trip to London and my first impression is there's some absolute gold in there (just over a regular albums worth) but I can't help feel that a lot of it sounds a little overstretched or underdeveloped in places like what would otherwise be outtakes thrown in for good measure and maybe not the calibre of material I'll be returning to in a hurry. Ok AE's outtakes are still pretty awesome but I cant help get a sour taste after forking out a whopping £42 tbh. Of course I gave it the benefit of the doubt being AE but against what we paid for the live sets I'll be doubting paying that kind of price again especially just for a download. Move of Ten I got the digipack CD, 24bit, Flacs and Mp3 for the same price as a regular album. £42? (Sean pls)

So if I get the top of the shop £43 24bit WAV do I still get to download the mp3 or FLAC too for free like the other albums?
  8. Didn't think people on watmm had girlfriends Man Bites Dog is an essential classic, it predates the dogma manifesto by a few years and it's the darkest comedy. I have been drunk late at night shouting "Cinema, CINEMA!" whilst walking though built up areas. anyhowz Le Jette - Basically what 12 Monkeys totally ripped off. 9/10 Computer Chess - Quirky mish mash of retro nostalgia with a little sci-fi thrown in. Has good and bad bits tho need to watch this again. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Well animated shit sandwich 3/10.
  9. Upstream Color - 7/10 - had potential but edgy stylishness (like Primer) wasn't quite enough to compensate for the lacking a narrative to explain wtf is going on. Tree of Life - 7.5 - a grand visual exercise which worked well within each separate story but not quite sure it worked together, the CGI dinosaurs looked shit. The American Astronaut - 8.5/10 - enjoyable quirky film noir with musical elements. The silliness does away with any pretentiousness although it just kinda ends in a strange place. Troll 2 - best worst cult b movie. The Host - 8.5/10 - great monster movie, same director as Snow Piercer. Enemies Closer - 6.5/10 - never pretends to be what it isn't and Van Damme is well worth a watch as a vegan psychopath. The Battery 9/10 - decent original Zombie filk and a good comedy horror to boot. Best low budget indie flick I've seen in a while. The Machine - 8.5/10 - decent budget British cyberpunk movie, very almost a classic. Beyond the Black Rainbow - 10/10 - surreal super stylish collage homage to all the fave cult sci-fi which is as good as the sum of it's parts imho, fucking awesome soundtrack too. Best watched late at night.
  10. Robocop - could have done with a darker edge like Elite Squad but a decent intelligent none glossy sci-fi flick just don't expect anything like the original as it's totally the opposite. 7.8/10 Wolf of Wall St - classic 9.9/10 Dallas Buyers Club - average film but the strong cast keep it worthwhile 8/10 Amrican Husstle - good retro hair styling and constant 70's hit slow motion montages stitch together a pretty ropey wannabe film. 5/10 Enter the Void - Starts ace then just plods along. Some great self indulgent yet creative camera work that's quite innovative but sadly wasted. 6.5/10
  11. Pootie Tang - as a complete film its pretty shitty but for a comedy it's pure sillyness gives it a LOL/10 Don Jon - feature length Pornhub.com advert Three Extremes - Three very twisted perfectly executed shorts from Hong Kong, Korea and Japans finest. 10/10 Riddick - If you like the Riddick then this is a pretty entertaining watch but the film is pretty much ruined by the cut and shut ending 6.5/10
  12. Thor - Dark World 6.5/10 - good story/plot, not too bad script but let down with, rushed editing, uninspired directing and shoddy camera work that at times made everything seem like a poor man's Lord of the Rings mixed with Power Rangers. Shame as this could have been a really good film that just seemed like it was going though the motions. Started to get Man of Steel deja vu but the film picks up a little in the latter half. Screamers - Can't believe I missed this first time round, this is what 90's sci-fi B-movies are all about! Going gay for Peter Weller/10 Assassination Games - Van Damme vs Scott Atkins must mean some decent fight sequences? No, the film was too busy trying to look more sophisticated than it actually was and failing quite dramatically. 3/10
  13. I kinda see where he's coming from. The Shining is a bit overrated really. This is just my opinion. Not looking to start beef. i think so too. and stephen king was famously quoted as saying "he hated it". i've never understand why it's considered in such high criterion for horror films. the thing about cronenberg though is he hasn't exactly made anything interesting since existenz and (or) spider. I thought the same at first but like most Kubrick you need to watch the Shining a few time to appreciate it as it's not about the play the way its played out. Stephen King distanced himself from the Shining as Kubrick had made a totally different angle on the story. As far as Cronenberg goes Crash was OK and his sons recent film Antiviral has followed the body shock heritage even if the concept was totally ridiculous in a good way.
  14. Sorry for more tech questions chaps but I love the 2001 Toronto set, what was your live setup based around during this tour? I've read that a Nord Lead and Modular G1 was used along with with some military spec laptops?? (I use an old Itronix II with mine) Please could you tell us with what you carried on tour back then and perhaps elaborate a little on the workflow used for this minimal setup especially with the Nords?
  15. What do you guys think of Hecq, Kangding Ray and Vladislav Delay's work?
  16. I'm terrible for getting lost with spending too much time tweaking and not finishing anything. How do you guys balance sound exploration with getting things finished or knowing when to move on if your overdoing things or being counter productive?
  17. You guys say your mainly software based now when creating (max/msp), does any tactile interface come into play with sound sculpting or are you just as happy tapping a mousepad with a brew? What's your opinion on the direction of new electronic hardware from the 5yrs? Thank you both for giving your time the most awesome watmm thread ever btw :)
  18. That's what some people have said about Fol3 to be fair :) haha shit man you're right oh well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuaXqa660KI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J2gv80ttK8
  19. What did you think of the sound FX design in the new Transformers movies?
  20. Do you guys dig slow drone/ambient/minimalist type stuff? Perlence Subrange 6-36 was certainly a step in this direction, would ever consider doing more stuff like it or was this just a dabble?
  21. Hello again, you guys seem to be quite consistent in release an album + following EP/mini album every two years, is this a contractual thing or a deadline you set yourselves for motivational purposes? Do you take time out from music making after a release or are you constantly working on something on a regular basis? ta :)
