  1. Turns out I haven't heard the 2009 versions - I still had the 2004 promo set, which is dire, didn't know they'd done it twice.. A quick sampling and the 2009s seem to be really good, more like louder, punchier versions of the originals without all the life drained from them. Looks like I have some downloading to do!
  2. oh, just the sound of it - like the music is half-submerged in black, inky goo. i've spent a good amount of time working on restoration and denoising, and it's very, very difficult to get right, particularly for the more delicate electronic music, it just gets destroyed. why i don't listen to kraftwerk's remasters - and they spent years trying to get it right, with no doubt the very best equipment. autechre warp tapes 89-93 was an impressive job though
  3. digitally denoised, a lot of the ambience scraped away.. i'll stick with the 192, it's more faithful. why do people feel the need to mess with tape rips? it's like all those ropey copies of melodies from mars
  4. Played X4 5 times before carrying on with the rest of the album. Oof.. Best Autechre since Glasgow Art School?
  5. faster faster download!! ? Guess it's time for SIGN listen no.2.....
  6. That's just a snippet of the gescom disengage radio show, not a remix, and it probably wasn't even ae at the controls the track being mixed in is (prod. by Mark Pritchard, for the non-eagle eyed..) Dark river was played many times on disengage, it's obviously an influential piece for them
  7. I know this isn't a bad album - at least, not in the same way I knew immediately that Quaristice was a bad album (but that's just, like, my opinion man!).. Infact it's probably a very good album. But fuck me, it's grim.. All I'm hearing on this first play is funerals, confinement, nakedness, a hopeless struggle.. I felt a little trapped listening to it, if I'm honest - many of the fascinating sonic devices and designs they typically employ, are here stripped away completely, or muted and soured, sent on a downward trajectory.. Everything seems to be arranged to provoke a more visceral response. It's a step outside my perception of what Autechre are about - maybe in a good way, but I didn't sense much in the way of a bright outlook, for sure. I think it's been put together to listen to as a whole, from beginning to end, and would make less sense piecemeal. I also get a strong impression that this was all the work of one person. Perhaps I'm more inclined right now to enjoy music that doesn't lead me to think about all the shite and nonsense going on in the world right now. Perhaps I'm not even really listening to this album and I'm just listening to myself. Who the hell knows! Anyhow, I probably won't get this one out to listen to again for a little while..
  8. The albums range from mediocre to downright bad, I think - except for Chiastic Slide which is top drawer, and Oversteps which almost works but not quite. Always found it curious that the EPs generally had a much higher standard of presentation
  9. I wouldn't say it's a disaster.. The cut is perfectly adequate, tonally it sounds to me indistinguishable from the 2005, and it's slightly - but noticeably - quieter, with slightly (slightly!) higher surface noise. Playing through more discs there is ticking and popping throughout, more than you'd typically find on the premium quality presses (Pallas? RTI?), but I think these will mostly go away after some playthroughs and/or cleaning. I'd feel confident that all the above applies when comparing to the MOV as well, as 2005 = MOV as far as the cut goes. And MOV generally press on good quality vinyl from my experience.
  10. Big scratch on "Sublime Creation". Hurrahhh. Now waiting for Bleep response. So this set was pressed at Optimal, where some other things I've been interested in recently have also been pressed. Based on some hair-raising reports I've read about those, it looks like QC there has gone downhill in the past year or two. The rest of the vinyl in the set doesn't look too hot either - uneven surfaces, dimples, sharp edges.. Just did a spot comparison against my Discotheque release from 2005 - which is the John Dent / LOUD cut, same as the new MOV pressing. The Discotheque is better - louder, better vinyl quality, less surface noise. Come to think of it, wasn't there some shade being thrown about the MOV being cut from a CD / not the original master? That's patently false - as the MOV is the exact same record as the Discotheque from the same lacquer - which was a remaster done by John Dent and Mark Pritchard himself!
  11. The artwork.. It's a planet on fire, isn't it?
  12. Continuing with the numerological Mystic Meg routine, I hereby announce with absolute certainty that the accompanying EP to SIGN will be called AKIN As well as that, the tormented limbo-specter of Herman Cain tells me that Joe Biden will be struck by "lightning" on the very same day it is released
  13. S(19) + I(9) + G(7) = 35 = L (12) + P (16) + C (3) + D (4) N = 14 = (catalogue no) 3+2+9
  14. I read about this policy (which, apparently, is widespread) recently: https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836 Perhaps they have personnel data to back up that policy; But, if above-average intelligence police have left service at higher than normal rates in the past, I'd bet in most cases it was for reasons other than "boredom", though.
  15. https://bleep.com/release/185639-nuron-as-one-la-source Was sniffing around on Bleep looking for possible Ae reissue bizmess. Last thing on earth I expected to see!

  17. in entirely unrelated news, there's a new NURON EP out on pre-order from De:Tuned. on bleep etc. with ltd. version. first since 1996. This may be exciting to some people.
  18. Bought this, it's excellent. Like others have said, I should really get round to exploring more of their modern releases
  19. Rest in peace, McCoy Tyner... Firstly, the greatest tribute I know..
  20. There is a Reaktor-esque module builder in the works which looks promising, and has a lite-version, early access beta available now - "Geco", made by Hora, a VCV developer Comes with a library of DSP and logic objects, with custom code imports possible too. https://gumroad.com/horamusic
  21. I'm investigating this one - Impromptu Foundry
