  1. excited for the new ae album. ...but dreading the new tdr artwork. their recent work for autechre has been absolute crap. last good ae cover was draft.
  2. Sounds a bit like a manipulated mellotron choir to me, though I might just be projecting. it's definitely fs1r.
  3. the beats are pretty steady and simple because the melodies are so complex and constantly moving all over the place. the focus of this album is definitely on the melodic lines. at any given time there are multiple different overlapping melodies that barely ever repeat. this is where all the typical autechre evolving complexity is occurring. if the beats AND the melodies had all been super complex and constantly moving, the album would have been a mess. the rhythms are just an anchor to help you focus your attention on the melodic elements. it's clear that all the work on this album went into 'composing' the synth parts.
  4. Lori was weirded out when he was talking about killing shane, but when she really freaked out was when he said that their son carl had shot him. i think that was what she was most upset about.
  5. what?! no way. except for the little kids i think all the characters are well cast & the acting is great.
  6. battlestar galactica. never saw it when it originally aired despite a bunch of people raving about it. halfway thru season 1 right now.
  7. man. rough crowd in here. i think this show is pretty damn good. despite some writing lapses ( like they are going to risk some dudes life to get some zombie out of a well?! lower a chicken down there or something! ) i refuse to watch this 'talking dead' bullshit. deconstructing the show & destroying the illusion right after the show airs like that. cheap & shameless grab for more advertiser dollars. that's just like those stupid explanation shows they had for the "Lost" series when the mythology got so convoluted that they had to have shows where the writers talked for an hour explaining everything about the characters & the plot & showing scenes from previous episodes with little explanatory info at the bottom of the screen. stupid.
  8. haven't read the comics, so i have nothing to compare the show to, but so far i think this series is incredibly well executed. acting, writing, directing, fx, it's all 1st rate. 1st half of the 2nd season premiere had my stomach in knots. that whole highway sequence was incredibly well done. ...but fuck any show that gives a preview of the next weeks episode at the end. way to spoil your own show. as soon as i saw they were doing that i screamed "NOOOO!" and clicked it off quick. if the ending is a cliffhanger people will be tuning in next week, no need to worry. chill out on that promo crap.
  9. sean has a very distinctive drum programming style. he can pick up a drum machine and make it sound like him, if that makes sense. his style sounds hip-hop influenced, but with a very clipped, almost militaristic feel to it. he's got his own unique sense of timing. robs got a looser, funkier feel to his stuff, much more improv based. you really get a sense of how they interact listening to their concert bootlegs (esp. the untilted & quaristice tour stuff). of course, i have no way of knowing for sure how this track was done. maybe it was a jam the 2 of them did, maybe it was sean intentionally trying to do a rob-style track, who knows. just from an initial listen, my first impression was that this sounds more like rob. on one hand, i don't like disecting this stuff. i like the 'autechre' mystique and the sense of mystery behind it. on the other hand, the fanboy in me can't help but want to peek under the hood a little bit and figure out how this stuff is made.
  10. i'm thinking that rob brown put the kids to bed, told his wife to do the dishes, went down to his studio, locked the door, smoked a big fat blunt, and banged this one out solo. mpc-stylee.
  11. i Probably Maybe would like to hear this track, if anyone could be so kind.
  12. @hahathhat: what is that thing with all the sliders underneath & to the left of the juno (not the novation but the smaller thing) ?
  13. I couldn't disagree more. I still can't stand Krylon. Not sure it'll ever grow on me really, aw man, how can you not like krYlon? most beautiful track on the album. it's like a Blade Runner sunrise or something. those reversed-sounding synths are what make it.
  14. i think krYlon should have been the last track on the album and they should have just left Yuop off. krYlon works great as a closer.
  15. would any kind soul be able to translate this?
  16. compare that rob interview to the sean one. rob just lays it all out there while sean makes a national security issue out of what software he used to cue up the tracks for their radio show. i mean, i think it's cool that they both have totally different temperments and that's probably a big part of why their music sounds as good as it does but, damn sean... just chill out a little bit on the 'top secret' tip. i know he doesn't want to de-mystify everything but honestly who really cares what software he used for that? not very important, really.

i love this track! the quieter glitchy bits have got a real funky groove to them if you turn it up and listen closely.
  18. these glitched out mp3s are great! better than oversteps. these have more interesting synth sounds & they're also not buried under tons of reverb so you can actually hear them. some of these sounds remind me of a nord modular g1.
