  1. Grado SR80e. They're open backed though, so other people will hear the music if you're listening to them so they're not great for in work or on the bus.
  2. Yer wan on Radio 6 says she's playing some "world exclusive" Aphex Twin track in the next hour.
  3. I don't so actually, it all looks legitimate. Some of the names you think are incorrect are probably modified things, or different versions of things. Eg Midimoog instead of Minimoog is the Studio Electronics Midimoog: http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/midimoog.php
  4. One of your Roland TR606s should be a Roland TR666 which is this: http://www.confusedmachines.com/
  5. Minipops has definitely been mastered to be "loud". Quite a bit of squaring of the peaks when you look at it but my ears haven't tired of it so far. I wonder if the vinyl has been mastered differently. As a comparison here's what Read For The Dead looks like, none of the peaks ended up clipping:
  6. I am seeing that same waveform in Audition (RIP Cool Edit Pro).
  7. Reading the press release verbatim was a nice touch.
  8. Sales of Elektron's Analog Rytm to skyrocket.
  9. The London listening party is being held inside the blimp.
  10. Is one of the words October?
  11. I remember seeing lockers similar to those when I was in Womb in Tokyo. They're for people to lock their coats and stuff in. It was a few years ago, you can almost date it from the advertisement:
  12. s950tx16wasr10 (earth portal mix) Akai s950 http://www.tx16wx.com/ Ensoniq ASR-10
  13. 06. CIRCLONT6A (syrobonkus mix) 08. CIRCLONT14 (shrymoming mix) http://www.spheremusic.com/Bargaindtl.asp?Item=12415 http://www.sequentix.com/cirklon.htm
  14. I think I did already but here ya go: http://virtualurbanrecords.bandcamp.com/album/glassilaun-memento To answer Digit, the Octopus is really interesting and I find myself coming up with melodies on it quickly that I wouldn't have been able to do just using Logic or other regular sequencers. The way you can have all the notes right there in front of you and change each one really quickly is great. Also it looks beautiful and whenever people come over it's usually the first thing they ask about. I use it all the time, it's also perfect for controlling drum machines as you have the whole grid in front of you. Unfortunately the OS has a few bugs which were never fixed before the company went bankrupt. It's not the tightest sequencer either, its midi clock is out of time with the notes it sends out slightly. I actually worked with one of the guys from the company to test OS updates to try to get it more in time but they never sorted that out, they got it close enough so most people won't notice though but I'm really picky about things being in time. The OS is open source and some people have been making new versions themselves but I'm afraid to upload a user OS in case it bricks the thing as the company aren't around anymore. Overall I love it, would never sell it.
  15. Wanted to edit that post to fix a typo, but also, I hear a lot of other people mention how it's one of their sought after synths. In my opinion it's a very good synth but it lacks that certain dreamy beautiful sound that you'd get from say, a Roland System 101+102.
  16. How do I quote somebody else without their quote of me showing up? This is easier in other forums I'm on. Anyway to answer: "Is that a Crumar Spirit underneath the sh101 and above the sh1? How is that? been looking out for one for a long time but never pops up." Yes it is a Crumar Spirit. It's an interesting synth, mostly because of its dual filter in the form of two CEM3350 chips which haven’t made many appearance in other synths apart from the even rarer Synton Syrinx and the Rhodes Chroma. Its oscillators use the "fairly common in 80s analogue synths" CEM3340 chip (which also appeared in the Pro One, SH101, J6, Memorymoog, MKS80, P5 Rev 3, the Syrinx once again, and more). The filter is the killer sound on this synth, a really unique bandpass / formant type thing which I can’t really put into words, I’ll record a demo sometime and stick it up on the internet. However it is let down by its envelopes which are nowhere near the snappy loveliness of the SH101 or Pro One. I’ve resorted to running it through an external VCA triggered by an external ADSR to get the snappiness I like. I’ve asked fellow owners about this and it’s a common point of contention with the Spirit. The build quality also isn’t great, it feels cheap compared to say, the System 101. That’s not a real wood enclosure, it’s plastic. Crumar themselves have an interesting history, they were an Italian company who knocked out a few semi decent if poorly built synths like the DS-2. Bob Moog was involved in the design with for the Crumar Spirit in 1983. Later Crumar Spirits had ports on the back with the word "midi" over them but with a plastic cover over it as Crumar never got as far as installing midi kits before they stopped production of the synth. In my own one somebody installed a mod so I can sync the "Mod X" LFO and trigger the "Shaper Y" externally via a midi cable that splits into two 6.35mm jacks. And that’s all the Crumar Spirit information I can think of at the moment. Oh, David Morley (R&S, Andrea Parker etc) used to own one and stuck a video of him playing it up on Youtube:
  17. Back in 2001 I sent V/VM a few silly remixes of pop songs I did and James ended up releasing two of them on the Hate You and Fan-Dabi-Dozi compilations (under the name Skkatter). He and Andy "Animal" Macgregor then came over to Dublin where I lived at the time and I DJed before them at a rather bonkers live show they did. Pig masks, distorted karaoke, falling over furniture, crowd interaction in the form of screaming abuse, a fun night was had by all. They both slept on my couch and did a mini-tour of Ireland (Cork and Limerick) before coming back to Dublin, missing the ferry back to Wales and bringing a load of strangers they picked up at some bar back to my place for an impromptu binge drinking session. My liver has never quite been the same. I bumped into James a few times since I moved to Berlin. He's a very interesting and talented character, I'm really enjoying the new music he's doing.
  18. GenoQs octopus sequencerOr maybe you mean the five boxes? They're Oberheim SEMs.
  19. Yeah it is, been like that for years. Quality Ikea workmanship.
  20. Hehe. The monitor stays off most of the time as all the sequencing is done via hardware like the Cirklon etc. I only turn the computer on when recording the final into Logic or for editing a Nord Modular patch. That Dell monitor is about 10 years old now, still works fine. Vintage monitor almost.....
  21. Those curtains are a lesson: never go to Ikea drunk.
  22. Washing machine is upstairs. Nothing else to the right past the CS60. The Korg Volca Beats didn't make it into the photos, as well as the MC4, Waldorf Microwave and, a few mics, and a guitar. Some music is up here: http://virtualurbanrecords.bandcamp.com/album/glassilaun-memento
  23. Posted some photos ages ago but have changed things around a bit.
  24. When you finally get the vinyl you should send it to a professional mastering plant like D&M in Berlin or The Exchange, they could probably do a very high quality transfer from vinyl to digital with all the best D/A, maybe do some light mastering on the end result etc.
