1. Might as well give some infos. Teloscope is based on a Thelonious Monk sample on PO-33 through the trigger hold delay from zoom multistomp, to a gentle beat. I'm trying sometimes to get a bit of a minimal/soft techno sound lately and this is part of that. 0m13ds6x leans heavily on a Rahsaan Roland Kirk sample (this one) to a slowed-down funk beat; that's basically all it is tbh, go listen to the original . Gumbo-33 is my fav break chopped and sequenced on the PO-33, not something I do often but I got that little machine recently and it's very good for that. Up next is another soft techno-ish track, synth loop throughout is from a nord modular + neutron bbd delay patch, with cv from the nord controlling delay time. Idea of patching the nm with an external delay inspired by the mono-log project. Came out a bit dubby.
2. Love that guitar/milk frother stuff. Reminds of this guy https://zimoun.net/
3. That's pretty cool. Enjoying the more rhythmic tracks such as On Your Knees. Trance is in the air lately or is that just me? I'm a bit embarrassed to admit how often I listen to that 5 hour Lorenzo Senni Build-ups Archive from warp30. Maybe it's just that with the passing years the 90s are now (after the 80s) opened up for nostalgia-mining but also, once you strip away the worst cheese, there's something genuinely really nice about those classic trance sounds.
4. Now we can finally bring those augmatic disport lyrics to life.
5. Nice. Digging Polymagic especially, great mix of lush and dark.
6. Nice, thanks for the info.
7. Any info thats not youtube vids?
8. Who remembers this vid I found that so ace back in the day
9. Ohh, I have those, no idea it was the same guy. Thanks for the list ^^
10. Pretty nice so far. Lot of stuff on that bandcamp, if anyone has some other recommendations I'm all ears.
11. Oh wow there's a whole series of live albums there. And a good reminder to blast some Can again.
12. But everyone's leaving facebook and reddit is going down the drain. If watmm just sticks around long enough... Yeah, I've noticed groups of people migrating from various public places to discord servers.. But on the other hand there's some newer forums (lines comes to mind) that seem to have no trouble at all attracting an active membership.
13. I don't know if it makes sense to consider it in such an adversarial way. I'd think most people would probably be happy to pay voluntarily if it's easy enough and they've gotten some joy out of watmm in the preceding year, just like most people are happy to pay for netflix/spotify etc.. these days even though you can still pirate.
14. In Holland we have our own system for internet payments called IDeal, very rarely I borrow someone's credit card or just do a bank transfer manually if supported. And yeah I can also top up paypal via IDeal (but don't really like to do it, I still have this feeling that paypal is super shady back from when there were stories about them just draining peoples bank accounts with no recourse etc..). I'm not saying it's not possible (or even all that difficult these days), just that it's a bigger hurdle than 16yo-me would probably take for lurking an internet forum. By the way, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but what's your opinion on having a 1 year free trial period for new accounts?
15. I want to mention that completely separate from any consideration of how much it costs there is considerable friction in having to pay, and perhaps more so for some countries. Here in the Netherlands we don't use credit cards much, never had one, also never really used paypal. I have no problem paying 3 euros per year for some weird internet forum but, especially back when I signed up and was younger, sure as hell I was not going to ask my parents to borrow their credit card or link my bank account to paypal.
16. Since 2013 apparently. Damn I'm old lol.
17. It costs money to sign up a new account now.
18. Sounds cool. Randomly had John Fahey's Hitomi on heavy rotation after stumbling on it in my collection and not knowing anything about it/him.
19. Wow yes:
STEIM (STudio for Electro Instrumental Music) was a center for research and development of new musical instruments in the electronic performing arts, located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Beginning in the 1970's, STEIM became known as a pioneering center for electronic music, where the specific context of electronic music was always strongly related to the physical and direct actions of a musician. In this tradition, STEIM supported artists in residence such as composers and performers, but also multimedia and video artists, helping them to develop setups which allowed for bespoke improvisation and performance with individually designed technology. In 2020 STEIM seized to exist due to lack of funding.
Wish I'd heard of this sooner...
