  1. @milkfaceafa i could tell the one here (montreal) must have been going on all over town all weekend long. I heard people honking their horns & chanting from my apartment yesterday afternoon. probably one of the bigger turn outs i've seen since back at the height of the sudent protest waves seven or eight years ago
  2. the word "fascist" gets thrown around a lot these days but damn yeah that's pretty textbook
  3. oneohtrix point never must have been pissed back in 2014 when he paid jon giraffeman $800 to make a music video & he just sent him back a powerpoint document full of pictures of fursonas & melting anime girls. little did he know at the time that this would become an entire music genre. nay. a way of life.
  4. the krokodyl hunter i mean don't get me wrong, i don't fault anyone for wanting to pursue this stuff. it's just that my personal makeup is such that i want to devote as little of my life to following financial markets as humanly possible (even if they're a new breed of financial market). it just isn't where my interests are. i'd like to think i can do that without having to commit to living on the bottom rung of society for the rest of my life. i'd rather live in a society where a person could get skilled at some craft and do alright with that, without having to dedicate time to keeping track of the market values of a couple dozen neo-currencies i mean it probably wouldn't even be that much of a chore i just don't want to do it. it's like saying everyone needs to learn how to play basketball or they're going to miss out
  5. word. with songs i've listened to a shitload i eventually get to the point where i'm exclusively listening to them at other speeds. my own tracks too, which means by the time stuff shows up on an album it's usually way faster or slower than the speed i originally recorded it at
  6. yeah tbh this is why i've avoided crypto on principle. i don't really see it as a genuine post-capitalist progression if it's just gonna be some bullshit where everyone who wasn't riding the elon musk hype train or trying to buy krokodyl online in 2013 is going to have to fight for scraps. i'm into the idea of crypto and blockchain but if it turns out to just be a digital equiv to the klondyke goldrush then no i'm not actually
  7. there was a big protest here today the guy driving the car i was in tried to honk his horn in time to arabic music on the radio. eventually he changed it to depeche mode and started honking to enjoy the silence
  8. WE DIDN'T START DAH FIYAH
  9. i refuse to believe in simulation theory because it would mean that god was probably a guy who looked like that and i was a background character in his vr porn machine
  10. i wear the mask because they won't let me buy food if i don't
  11. yeah his early stuffs definitely have a certain je ne sais quoi to them, a real alien quality that only certain aeshtetic forms can evoke in me. there does seem to be a conscious move away from that over the course of his career towards deconstruction of more "human" concepts (which i imagine was intentional. he talks in some old interview about not just wanting to be that guy channeling magical abstractions his whole career). which might be why i feel like r+7 is his most important album (so far?), if not the one i actually list to the most - it's at that sweet spot in the transition, approximating humanity while still having an intense otherworldly energy for me it's also a nice metaphor for how conscious development starts feeling a lot less linear after a certain point. when you're a kid your awareness grows as a steady progression. then at a certain point you have some kind of spiritual revelation which seems like the culmination of all that - you fall in love for the first time, you move out on your own, you pop molly at a drone show on a lark. you wonder, "how could it progress from here?". Well, it doesn't. you stop moving linearly. You move off in some other direction. you become more pragmatic. you lose sight of the spiritual revelations you once had, but in turn you gain practical knowledge. You realize that life is not single building sequence but a series of epochs, each with their own distinct highs & lows
  12. the fact that pre-mainstream OPN ended up becoming mainstream still baffles me honestly. i mean like not for any fault (he's a talented producer & clearly puts a lot of thought into this stuff), but just because his early work still feels way too weird to suggest someone who would ever get beyond "faceless electronic musician with a cool name that indie kids are into"
  13. BoC announces they've retired from music to sell manure, making good on a statement made years prior: "if i wasn't in the rap game, i'd probably have a key knee-deep in the crap game" people ask them, farmer BoC, how do you get your craps so consistent, so smoof boc says "from one horse all things depend"
  14. come to daddy isn't even one of my favourite afx trax but that part where he screams and the beat comes back in a couple seconds later (and then he starts screaming at a higher register) always gets me hype. feels like a 1990s version of that hunter s thompson quote about the wave breaking & rolling back
  15. 20th century mass-democracy, the unholy mcdonaldsification of west european cultural norms, has made great strides towards overcoding the entire globe. now it feels compelled to cover its tracks by making a concerted effort to shorn itself of any aspect that speaks of western ideological centrality, in order to put forward the illusion that globalist society is a natural+universal phenomenon
  16. thank god, i heard someone play a forrth a fifth a minor fall & a major lift the other day and it felt like uncle sam himself was expelling creamy white vitriol directly upon me
  17. this one's great bcuz a lot of marxist theory of the last 50 years directly revolves around trying to figure out why previous revolutionary attempts went sideways or failed to spark in the first place
  18. the rate this thread produces strawmen, you would think we were in a worker-owned scarecrow production plant
  19. *Karl Marx whipping the meathammer of the prorletariat out of his trousers voice* "well son, ya ready to sieze the means of production?"
  20. ever since this thread started i havent been able to listen to tupac the same way
  21. socialist efforts are consistently hampered by poor ad copy; the right has exploited this all the way from fascism's aestheticization of the political to the trump era's clarion call of "the left can't meme!"
