This is exactly how I see it, and this fits Autechre perfectly. It's all speculation at this point obviously, but I could see them leaving traditional formats behind completely.

I think you guys are way too caught up on the idea that there's even going to be an album! Wouldn't surprise me if this is all we get for a while.

It's not that its bad quality. It is. Maybe it's the amount reverb they use? Everything seems to be bathed in it. There're a few sharp and crisp sounds and the overall impression, imo, is that the sound is kind of noodley... I think a lot of the tracks here sound quite "organic" compared to some other Autechre releases, which means the sounds themselves might not be as punchy/sharp but there's a lot of interesting textural stuff going on. It sounds super lush through my Cowon Plenue D on Beyer DT250's. Can't wait to hear it on a big system!

I don't think Autechre is above criticism, and honestly I'm probably going to end up focusing on certain tracks when all is said and done. But... give it a bit of time and some more listens before giving the final verdict. This is a lot of music and it hasn't even been out a week!

Eh, I'm not into that track but "they spent half as long making this as Oversteps" is tales from your arse! There have always been Autechre tracks that I don't enjoy as much as others. Strokes/folks.

I don't have the inclination to take substances, but saying it will only lead to delusion and psychosis is pretty dismissive. I actually don't think that's a balanced or truthful perspective. Two sides to every coin you know?

Aye, chill out man. Substances are just an extreme way of getting into different mindsets. Some music I like to drive to, some music I want on a big stereo in the forest, some music is for walking through the city headphones on, some music when I'm sad or happy etc. It doesn't mean I can't appreciate that music at different times/in different mindsets but these things can have a huge impact. Saying you need to be on some sort-of substance to enjoy music is just as dismissive as saying you must be stone cold sober and giving it your utmost attention. There are many different ways to approach music listening!

Sooo anyone else have Pendula Hv Moda as one of their favourites?

I dunno man. Post tri rep? Chiastic Slide has heaps of tracks with clear and present melodies, LP5 has a few nice one's, cichli suite, envane, oversteps. Not seeing how this release is any more approachable than many things they have done! Unless it's the textures of the sounds themselves that are inducing these haedaches... in which case there's still many a headache to be had from Elseq!

Might be why we're still following these artists 20+ years later, too. Except with Autechre that happy place is getting your head exploded and is a total moving target. Indeed. I don't know about you guys, but I'm always looking for something the likes of which I've never heard before that will blow my mind. I don't want to stagnate musically (or in most aspects of life). You can hold on to your classics AND be open to new things.

4 all the ae fans out there, dont click on that link or even read the comments unless you want to die of a painfull death. also i have a feeling that the elseq ep´s are made for the ae fans, no one else seems to enjoy their new stuff except of "us" I actually don't think Autechre make music for anyone but themselves. They just make what they want to make, and have done so for a long time!

This thread is a bit zany in parts. People thinking this will bring Autechre back into the mainstream? That it's accessible and approachable? Lol, what am I reading. I think you (us?) guys have a skewed perception of reality... there's no way this is anything other than the super imposing to anyone other than the fans. Which is fine by me! I had my first listen to all 5 yesterday, and my favourite from that play through was probably part 4. I'll be chewing on this release for months to come. The sound design is out of this world. So rich with details. No one does it like Autechre. That said, I do like the idea of this being the last hurrah for their current set up. I miss the 90's where basically every album had a radically different sound palate, and hope they have one more transformation left in them. Quite a greedy mindset I know, and ultimately I'm just happy that they can seemingly comfortably do whatever the fuck they please. Final thoughts: - This is very good - Can't believe they dropped 4 hours of new music on us, the mad bastards!
  13. How can anyone doubt this is Autechre? That is absolutely Incunabula era Autechre sounds mixed with Bola goodness. Mmm tasty!
  14. For people who don't know, the whole concert is out there. Should be a thread on here about it somewhere.
  15. Aphex is crap compared to Autechre as far as I'm concerned. Truly. Anyway, the album Syl Kougai released last year has some definite AE vibes going on. Great album: https://schematicmusiccompany.bandcamp.com/album/by-syl-kouga
  16. 10,000 Days Alex Grey! Pseudo-spiritual nu-age druggo ascension philosophizing! And yet dispite all that it seems absurd to consider those albums remotely equal! A lesser album! Not the same level of craftsmanship! Exclamation point! Absolutely absurd. I don't think Lateralus can sniff Aenima but it can't really be denied that it was a step forward in a lot of areas and had a very coherent narrative (I guess would be the word). 10000 Days just seemed like a mishmash of left overs from Lateralus and a few random songs thrown in to the (brickwalled) mix. I still think it's alright, but I really hope they stretch themselves a bit more on the new album.

  18. I'd put them all under the one album. Cripes, can't wait to get home and drink these in with my ears.
  19. Shhiiiieeeeetttttt another 5 gigs? Can't wait to jump on these.
  20. I don't know... I don't care how technically advanced it is, the guy can still write pretty sweet riffs and that's part of what I want from my Tool experience. 10,000 just seemed uninspired all round. Didn't seem like anyone really cared much tbh. Agreed about Aenima. It's on my top 10.
  21. It would have been around 1998 (I was 14) my older brother started hanging out with some guys who were evidently pretty onto it when it came to electronic music. Incunabula, Amber and especially Tri Rep soon became family favourites. Collectively as a family we were discovering the joys of electronic music... albums like Massive Attack Mezzanine, Air's Moon Safari and Moby's Play had made a big splash. Tri Rep was probably my dads favourite album at the time. Cut to 1999 and I was at a record store with my brother and dad. I found a copy of an Autechre album, knowing nothing about it, and convinced my dad to buy it. That album was LP5. We went home and put it on, and all sat down to listen... my brother and I were blown away by previously unimaginable sounds, but that was officially my dads jumping off point. He couldn't even make it through the first track. I was utterly hooked, and worked my way through all of the albums and ep's. Confield was a huge WTF when it came out, and I spent hours scouring Kazaa and Soulseek for remixes and tracks I'd never heard before. Man, what a time it was!
  22. Yeah, definite J-pop vibes. I know she's into it. Saw a music video show she guest programmed and it was full of J-pop stuff.
  23. I've only listened to this a couple of times, but I think it's pretty good! Lot's of ideas, lot's of catchy tunes. It's poppier for sure but this is way weirder and more eclectic than "top 40 pop". I saw her live at a small venue after Visions came out, and honestly the show was underwhelming. It was filled with screaming fan girls and she was pushing the pop rave angle pretty hard, jumping around like a chipmunk. I kind of feel like this album would work better in that context than Visions era stuff.
  24. Silly? No, sounds great! I once stopped by a local field on my bike and ate some shrooms, chucked on Confield and continued on my merry journey along the bike path. It was one of the best trips of my life, and one of my favourite Autechre listening experiences.

    Bola

I love Bola. Absolutely one of my favourite artists. He's had a few new tracks here and there on compilations and such, but I've been patiently waiting for this album for a longggg time now!
