  1. Sekiro is kicking my ass all over the place, it's fucking HARD. Also definitely not just Samurai Souls reskin, the combat is quite different mechanically, very fast and deadly, much more so than Bloodborne. The stealth and verticality of approach is an interesting addition to the dynamic. Adjusting away from Souls habits is a challenging process but I've been making progress a little at a time.

Sekiro looks cool, but I tried Bloodborne and just got crushed by the first boss. And I play a lot of games on hard. Looking up tips online was no help. Never got anywhere close to beating him.

that's where you try again mate, bloodborne is one of a kind. truly beautiful, especially with the lovecraftian references in a gothic setting. don't miss out!

After about 100 deaths on the same boss making no progress (and having to re-go through the level every time), it didn't feel like fun and I gave up.

The "first" boss most people encounter in that game is entirely optional and most are underleveled when they discover him, assuming you're talking the wolf on the bridge... If not, well... git gud.

  3. this whole project reminds me of my grampa, who spent his last few years unable to communicate, or even see, at all, lost in his mind living god knows what. Sometimes I think of what I'll do when, or if, my parents reach that state and it freaks me out tbh. I'm really curious about what's going on in the mind of someone at that stage, but I guess we'll never truly know.

My wife's grandfather is reaching the later stages of amnesia, he's barely there it seems, but he has those rare and brief moments of lucidity still. I plan to listen to the whole lot of albums with him in mind.

  4. Interesting scientifically backed study done debunking the idea that violent music makes you violent, and that "Death metal music inspires joy not violence"

"I've had one desire since I was born; to see my body ripped and torn."

The lyrics of death metal band Bloodbath's cannibalism-themed track, Eaten, do not leave much to the imagination. But neither this song - nor the gruesome lyrics of others of the genre - inspire violence.

That is the conclusion of Macquarie University's music lab, which used the track in a psychological test.

It revealed that death metal fans are not "desensitised" to violent imagery.

The findings are published in the Royal Society journal Open Science,

"[Death metal] fans are nice people," said Prof Bill Thompson, from the Australian university, which is based in Sydney. "They're not going to go out and hurt someone."

  5. Drugs worth $4.25M found in camper stopped on Interstate 94 in Minnesota

A search of the truck revealed marijuana along with canisters, pipes and glass jars with concentrated marijuana THC. Then the trooper opened the doors to the camper and found plastic garbage bags stacked from floor to ceiling, with each bag labeling its contents. One of the labels read "24k" and named the brand of marijuana it was carrying. There was 900 pounds of marijuana, 406 packages each containing 1 gram of THC concentrate, 112 jars of THC wax and $15,500 in cash. Desroches admitted that he was transporting the controlled substances for a fee of $30,000. The trooper believes the $15,500 in their possession was half of that fee.

FFS, I wish they'd just legalize it here already

  6. do Daughters play their old tracks (Hell/Canada era) or just their newer stuff?

The set was mostly based around their latest album, but they played a few off Hell Songs and The Self-Titled... I don't think they play any off the Canada era any more, which is fine IMO, they've evolved well beyond that album.

  7. Went to see Daughters last night at a local bar/venue. Fucking incredible set, if you get a chance to see them go! Was right up front the whole time, held Lex up multiple times as he jumped into the crowd or leaned out over us.

Props to the soundguy at the venue too, mixing was spot on and they sounded great!

  8. Finished RE2 remake as Leon, never played the original but that was a good game... Been a while since I played a decent survival-horror game. Emphasis on the survival part too, tension the whole game. Gotta try as Claire now, and hope for a better time, went in blind and spent way too long in the police station figuring out wtf to do and running from the Titan this playthrough.

  9. Finished Spider-Man last night, the base game is excellent, unfortunately the DLC is kinda shit in comparison.

Trying to finish RE2 remake, got to what I believe is the final boss fight sequence but I was really low on health and ammo and had no healing items, so I'm going back a few saves to come back more prepared.

  10. Martin seems to conjure up a different specific time period with every official PCA album. This one has images in my mind of the computers from The Americans creating these weird sounds.

I feel that, it does have kind of an early 90s vibe, but in a way that doesn't seem vaporish or synthwavey... Good stuff, lots of lush warm tones with subtle little things going on with the synths.
