  1. this is richard. the q-chastic upload gives it away. the cat 002 track only exists on the philosophy of sound & machine compilation in public, but his upload is slightly different at the beginning. it starts with a similar "crashing" sound that can be heard at 0:05 on the philosophy version, and if you compare, there's an extra bit of drumming before the beat comes to sync. so it's not only slower, but also a tiny bit longer. who else could possess this version if not rich himself? i'm not good with dats, but i assume it could've been cut from the q-chastic ep in its original, slower form. sincerely, anal forensics
  2. Almost like Selected Autechrian Works Volume II? Great fun to shuffle and sink into as well if the track order becomes numb. The only other albums I sometimes do this with are SAW2 and the Gas records. Positively surprised. Good album!
  3. I'd be extremely grateful if someone could PM me the -92 Peel version of Blue Calx as well.
  4. Of any Pop track, I say! One of the best ambient albums for me.
  5. How big scans are you after? http://www.albumartexchange.com/covers.php?sort=4&q=zauberberg&fltr=1&bgc=&page=
  6. I like the CD version more, but the LP version is not a bad bonus to have on top of that. I must admit though that I do not own the vinyl itself, I just have a rip of it. Listening to everything through my wireless headphones, though, is the best listening environment for me - but I'm not denying the vinyl experience from the artwork to the player needle.
  7. I'd love to hear that. I've a pretty decent vinyl rip of Königsforst, though it's not mine and pretty easy to find from the web, but anyway, if you're interested..
  8. I come from a metal background and it dominated my listening habits for around seven years until I slowly started getting into electronic music through the likes of Harold Budd/Brian Eno and Carbon Based Lifeforms. Even though I rarely listen to metal nowadays giving good old Slayer a spin every now and then is always great. I also love Beherit, Celtic Frost and basically a lot of death metal and black metal in general. There's a lot of good stuff in other metal subgenres of course, but way less than in the aforementioned ones.
  9. I was suppposed to post this last night, but forgot. Far removed from Gas, but I think it's more on the ambient side than most of his other stuff. Other artists that sound somewhat similar to Gas: - Ulf Lohmann / Because Before. This one's got the muddy sound of Gas in most of the tracks. - The Sight Below / everything. A melancholic take on Gas, I'd say. I don't feel it takes you anywhere near a forest, but otherwise it's musically very similar.

Cocteau Twins? I'd have Head Over Heels and Treasure right up there with Souvlaki Good one, I love CT and JAMC's early 80s output, but I figured I'd not place them in the same lot but think of them as important precursors.

My personal take on this style of music is that Loveless, Nowhere and the Slowdive albums literally render everything else worthless. I think I've explored almost every early 90s incarnation of this genre and nothing has come anywhere close to the aforementioned. I'd give Lush and Chapterhouse maybe a B or C rating and the Eternal EP has a wonderful song "Sleep" but that's it.
