  1. Shutting Down Here (2020) is excellent. It's like a concise mix of his more accessible / pop / classical-flavored tropes, with more far out, explorative synthesis elements. Def one of my favorite electro-acoustic recordings. sleep like it's winter is also super- pleasant... in the vein of Steamroom 40

  2. it was like 1998-99 and i was big into sonic youth, jim o'rourke (his interviews, name drops), free jazz / noise & various "indie" rocks. i was looking (at random) through the CDs at a local record store and spotted ep7. i purchased the album because it looked cool. around the same time, i met a girl named amber. she gave me a tape copy of Amber (the album), and i listened to it whilst walking around downtown, late one summer night, in salt lake city. that experience hooked me on it, but i didn't really tune back in to Ae until '04, when Draft came out. seeing sean booth's expression on the cover of WIRE in 2004, along with Xylin Room, 6IE.CR, Surripere and Reniform Puls transformed me from casual listener / dabbler into a moderate "head" ... IV VV IV VV VIII took me forever to like. Now, i think it's beautiful.

  3. love the physicality and roomy textures of DekDre Scap B .. aside from the primary melody, it sounds like Perlence's (album version) souped up cousin. i get a certain Quari vibe (plyPhon + Perlence) from the opener... wish it were longer! sorry if this has already been observed and mentioned

  4. Oversteps sounded fresh and exciting (big, different) when it came out... it was springtime, it felt fresh. d sho qub. SIGN, not so much. it feels a lil stale, rote. i'll take formulaic AFX over this, thirty-five times out of thirty-six. maybe [SIGN]'ll sound better on the stereo?

  5. you'd think they could put this stuff out on physical (CD/vinyl/cassette) format - people would eat it up. i suppose Ae aren't keen to create more waste, i'unno

  6. recently discovered Harvestman (Industrial Music Electronics) eurorack modules, and falling in love with the Hertz Donut mkIII ... as if I need to fixate on (or be distracted by) more things. anybody here using Harvestman technology? I listened to some demos of the HD mkIII, it sounds fantastic.

those dry sounds of the first (1/6) example are excellent. just when I started feeling comfortable with my own setup, I became aware of this brand... now i'm cruising the 'net, fantasizing on new synthesizer modules. GAS is a sickness, I need blinders

  7. always fantasized on getting a Machinedrum, but they're priced somewhat out of my current range/ability. I've a Digitakt, and it's been sitting, neglected, as I've been learning how to use a 6U / 84 hp eurorack system. I'm thinking that the 'takt has a lot of potential, but I'm still drawn to the sound of the Machinedrum, its potential for making 'weird sounds' (FM synthesis, diff types of 'machines' (?) etc.), hard-hitting beats, weird, generative, asynchronous flurries of finely detailed percussion, et al... I'm sure the MD has been discussed to death, just wondering if anybody would mind sharing their thoughts / opinions, etc..?

There was a bunch of stuff going back and forth on one of the FB groups a while back saying that they can't add new features because the CPU is effectively maxed out but Elektron confirmed that this wasn't the case. It seems so undercooked compared to the digitone.

I recall reading (possibly on the Elektronauts forum) that the Digitone has twice the CPU power of the Digitakt, as the Digitone has a dual processor setup (vs. a single processor in the DT) ... it'd be nice to have the filtering capabilities of the Digitone on the Digitakt, as well as two LFOs (without the MIDI trick) per track, but not sure if it's possible?

For years I've decided to get rid of fetishes. Vinyl is a fetish. The fetish, with its liturgy, serves to instill a frivolous sense of security. The fetish is near the Horror Vacui. Yet, like a real jerk, this time I bought the vinyl box. The god of the vacuo possessed me. Substance and form intersected and I put myself prone. I have not turned on the record player for at least 7 years. Sometimes it's good, feeling assholes. :datboi:

CD is also a fetish=no players anymore. I freely indulge. Say “yes”...and don’t open it.

CD is probably the cheapest, most convenient way to listen to an album on the stereo. sure, you can plug your mp3 / 'high-res' audio player into the receiver, but CDs are easier / sound better. same with playing music in a car -- a CD (provided you have a player) sounds better than plugging anything into the AUX jack. it's a convenient medium. also, tons of music is released on CD, where there's no vinyl version.
