My guess is Faucon-Titane. Seems to have the biggest balls out of all the other tracks. I am almost certain that the first track is Aphex Twin, though.

Yeah i don't get why people do this. Whoever made those tracks is really fucking good. Why throw that away by claiming it's someone else? Sounds crappy to me. Pretty boring rather. It's all done in Reaktor, in fact I recognize many of the default sound files. The second track is just the Krypt ensemble running at 180+ BPM. thats interesting you'd put it this way because the onlyt ime i've actually sat down and listened to his music seriously I was taken aback by how cookie cutter and typical his style of 'lofi' production was. So in terms of trying to set himself apart from the pack of 'shiny' production techniques by aping other lofi producers so specifically he's tying himself to something equally and arguably more time sensitive (aka will be dated quicker) than someone doing hifi production. I think hearing a certain era of or 00's 'lofi' hyper compressed side chained electronic music is going to sound dated as shit after a certain amount of times passes I have no issue with intentionally lofi production if its done with a unique or personal touch, but I don't hear that in the music of Actress (at least not yet). If he evokes a unique or cool emotional feeling for you thats all that matters, but to say that he's carving a lone path by rejecting of mainstream production aesthetics I vehemently disagree with. I think his ideas would be stronger if he didn't rely on muffling his sounds so much for them to have an aesthetically pleasing sound bed. IF he can make a song sound amazing without cutting off all the high end, adding fake hiss and compressing it into oblivion i'd probably change my mind Sounds to me like you haven't really listened to Actress, or maybe just picked out a few songs of his, which is cool. I do it all the time. But I gotta disagree with you. His technique isn't completely EQ, more specifically cutting out just the high ends and throwing in some sidechain compression. If you listen to an album like "R.I.P." or an EP like "No Tricks" or "Machine and Voice" you can hear that his EQ choices aren't limited to Lo Fi and muffled. In fact you can tell his decisions are quite intentional. He doesn't drape a blanket over his sound at all. He has stated in the past his obsession over Autechre and, to me, its clear he is an active disciple. He can make tracks that hit hard, 4/4 bangers, spacey textural drones, etc. I just feel like the guy needs more respect than to be called "Lo Fi". It doesn't seem that you have even listened to the guy, by saying "the onlyt ime i've actually sat down and listened to his music seriously "... I think you should give the guy more listens. As a huge Autechre fan, I firmly believe this guy gets it! In his catalogue there is already so much to choose from, so many territories he has explored. Really something for any electronic listener. Wow, you put it right! Kubrik and Tarkovsky are great examples. True masters with intense focus, dedication, and understanding. Funny because I recall in the AAA, they were into Kubrik and Tarkovsky. You are very spot on with why I also think nobody is like them. As far as Vladislav Delay... yeah probably not the best example. I was thinking of his albums "Multila" and "Entain". I mentioned Eno due to his unique approach, willingness to absorb what is around him, collaborations, the oblique series... never settling for one "sound", always trying to learn; I believe that is what drove him to collaborate with, produce, and learn from so many artist (Harmonia, Jon Hassel, Devo, Bowie, etc). Not to mention the guy was a complete gear head and had no formal training. I think saying he is a "nobody" (in terms of exploration) really sells the guy short. I think he is very similar to the style and approach that Autechre take when making music. I didn't say Autechre came to an empty space. The past two hundred years is extremely rich in terms of new material, techniques, influences, equipment... no doubt! I should have clarified more; there are many people with similar aesthetics to certain Autechre tracks. There is no one singular Autechre sound. That is what makes it difficult to recommend someone music that sounds like Autechre because I would hand them a whole big stack of tracks and artists that hit certain parts. Eh what a stupid thread. Sorry to be that guy. But Nobody sounds like Autechre. Nobody. Nobody has honed in like them and created such a diverse sound in the electronic realm. Their scope is so wide, yet they've managed to master it all. Seven Ark sounds like what some guy thinks Autechre is or something but doing it in a poor lame manner. HOWEVER I believe that there are some people doing interesting things who are also "honing in" on the focus of sound exploration and design. I think of Brian Eno or a guy like Actress... maybe even Vladislav Delay. People who are also exploring the depths of electronic music and really pushing themselves to do new things, not just rehash someone else's sound. But goddamn there is nobody with the insane focus and depth and structure as Autechre, who just carve right into raw sound. I am probably most hopeful of Actress. The guy is young, hustles and works hard, and is really pushing himself and sound design.

Anyone on what.cd should check out the collage "Autechre: Discography, Remixes & Side Projects" I have grabbed everything already, save for the few tracks listed as "missing". If someone were to give me a list of everything I could fill in what I have.

Nothin mind blowing, nothin earth shattering, nothin boundary breakin. Just a solidly produced and clean album which is quite tight and quite fat. To be honest, sounds a lot like The Tuss stuff, just more refined with more stereo space-y goodness... not a bad thing. This is definitely one that pleases the melody- rhythm- energy- seekers. There are few good textures here and there paired with some lush sounding synths, though many felt recognizable (not a good or bad thing, just an observation). Totally agreeing with Vaaler here: This feels like a total Aphex Twin album, in style, form, melody, etc. He has really mastered that sound that we have all grown to and is just fuckin grooving out hard on this album. It really is just fun. For me, SYRO really jams along hard on the surface but fails to connect on any really deep inner brain dances. I couldn't help feeling that the whole listening experience was blobbed, as if I felt there were parts I had already heard. Often I felt that songs felt similar in aesthetics and that hindered me from really fleshing out individual tracks with my mind. Perhaps it's the synths and patches used? Maybe there needs to be more breathing room? I am still trying to figure out why. What I am beginning to think is that either: I need to listen to it more, or listen to individual tracks. It has been... one day OR Stop trying to analyze it and just feel it and grooooooove to it Peace and Love to all you WATMM-ers who have been awaiting this release!! ENJOY!!!

Thanks to the power of modern CPUs, I can run many instances. Some jams when I am all over the place I'll have ~20 Reaktors at a time, all heavily effected, some self-automated, others triggered by the peaks or silences of other tracks or by MIDI notes. Yeah exactly. It's risky. Like u said, I could be on to something. Usually if I can feel something sounds decent I'll begin the manual tweaking and cleaning. Synplant looks like a quirky thing. I could mimic that using a more complex patch with hundreds more values and randomize everything in 1% increments. I use this method mostly when I have a blank slate and am feeling lazy. It can be tough jumping into things cold when there's no idea of what sounds I want to get into. That being said, I am gearless thus subject to the electronic abyss. Shit can be scary. The elektron looks like fun id like to get my hands on one

Perhaps random is the wrong word. That makes me think of those TOTALLY RANDO AUTECHRE MAX MSP videos you find on YouTube of a max patch farting out some junk. I'm thinking of controlled mutations rather. Jam that button a few times, get some alien squelching, then go in and tweak that beast to my liking. It feels slot like traveling in a light speed rocket in all different directions... You don't know what you're gonna find but that 0.00001% chance you find something interesting it's gonna be awesome and totally unique

I've been using Reaktor for a few years now and find it hard to leave cause it's got a very nifty randomize 1-100% button. I'm getting tired of being stuck at my computer all day though. There any good beginner piece of hardware that would enable me to get the depth and randomization ability? You guys ever mess around with any Reaktor ensembles?

How to you keep that "momentum" for a track going when you've made something cool and then have to save it and come back to it the following days? Do you run into dry spells... times when you have all kinds of creative energy and drive but are unable to make anything decent? These are some problems I run into... I was wondering if you ever ran into these problems and if they came in bursts

Hey guys, you've been a huge inspiration for me to make music, so thank you!! The possibilities of aural combinations and sound-scapes are virtually endless now with computers, which can be quite scary when you step up to a blank slate. You can go in ANY direction with any sound on a given track, and that just makes my head spin sometimes. I guess as a fellow explorer of the limitless electronic nebula my questions are: Do you go through a whole bunch of ideas/sounds/doodles before finding one worth polishing? How to you keep that "momentum" for a track going when you have to save it and come back to it the following days? Do you run into dry spells... times when you have all kinds of creative energy and drive but are unable to make anything decent? I can't help get discouraged sometimes when making tracks, like I'll have a ton of lush individual sounds but no way to link them, or just a 10-20 second "clip" that I'll be unable to flesh out into a whole song. I get the sporadic drive to bang out a song maybe once every 50-100 ideas or sketches I make. This isn't something I plan on giving up on, this is a life path, something that I'll do until I'm dead because nothing beats that moment when things just "click" and you're bobbing your head to your own stuff. I'm just wondering if you had some tips for those times when nothing seems to be working out.
