  2. I loved CITW - one of my top cinema going experiences - however, this was walking in with no preconceptions or expectations Beasts of the Southern Wild - worst thing i've seen in ages, absolute balls. First 10 minutes I kept saying to myself "no, stop, you're being too negative, allow it time..." oh how wrong i was - just terrible
  3. sorry for digging this up, only seeing your reply now man, that's a pretty deplorable critique, all his points are easily reversed - especially the one about the one-night-stand job - It makes perfect sense that of all people he'd let a random woman, whom he was only going to have a 1 night encounter with, come to his house, if anything, meeting a woman like this is the only scenario he can exercise the need to show someone his home, showing it to someone who he'll never see again, and someone he'll never be close to again Late Spring - hmmmmmmmm, i was pretty shocked to see it has a 100% rating on RT (not that one should ever listen to them) and having watched it and reflected, it was pretty damn neat, and well, pretty perfect. Having said that, it was a very restricted film, never over stretching itself, but i guess thats just Ozu, one shouldnt really be expecting more. What's funny is, its definitely a film that requires further reading about it in order to appreciate it more, which in the grand scale of things - i wonder if its a good thing or bad. However, if one was to see it randomly and not know anything about it, it's still a 'nice' enjoyable film.
  4. reminds me of how awesome the 4 horsemen theme is
  5. yum - thanks for the reminder, loved Fantastic Planet, can't wait to check this out Once Upon a Time in the West - verry goood, but needs a future viewing in order to see it as the true classic it's made to be
  6. your reasons for giving such a cryptic and underwhelming score to such a beauty of a film?
  7. Kwaidan - not bad - 4 short japanese ghost stories over 3 hours, so decent pacing and doesnt feel over long - some absolutely beautiful set design/matte painting/cinematography collabs
  8. got a hi-res of this for my desk top pretty please? that can be arranged, my good man...just uploaded it to 4shared there, but seems i need your email address to link you the file it seems gone are the days when one could simply upload to mediafire/megaupload and post the link (also, lovely lovely work going on here from everyone)
  9. Wow, is that shot gonna be in slowmotion? Funny, I immediately knew that those photos were taken on Iceland. Such a beautiful place. It's a photo I took on set from a film shoot - but yesss, the actual camera they were shooting with was high-speed (phantom camera) - I think there's a trailer for it online somewhere... boom: http://www.clarelangan.com/state_trailer.htm and yesss - Iceland is incredible, and its landscape drastically changes every few feet, mad place
  10. just launched the re-design of my website: http://www.niallconroy.com/ scanned some more caffenol photos some photos from Iceland: stills from some film sets: think I already posted this, but working on a new one: https://vimeo.com/49255053
  11. oh lordie - this couldn't annoy me more, especially on further investigating and finding not only is it his real son, Jaden, but also directed by M. Night Shyamalan - further proving of Smith's whoreing of his children for the big bucks
  12. to be honest, alot of it just comes down to budget - 2001 was a studio film and had a budget of about 10.5 mill (which back in 1967/68 was alot of money) Beyond the Black Rainbow was pretty much an independently funded feature, and had a minuscule budget of about 1mill Don't get me wrong, i'm the type of person who believes creativity doesn't amount to any budget - however, there are limits, and there are things that can be made possible with money In terms of 'creating another 2001' it also comes back to a name you can back - Kubrick was pretty shit hot before he made 2001, and the studios trusted him, so they were happy to throw money at his project and allow him to do what he wanted - same thing has to happen again, it sort of happened recently with Ridley Scott and Prometheus (although i haven't seen it yet)
  13. Remember the Dark Phoenix Saga? That shit was super heavy. I remember just having such a darker tone than other shows at the time. oh lordie - i have vague memories of various story lines and its so good watching them all again - but i couldn't agree more about the dark themes - let alone the deeply political and mind blowing sci-fi story lines they had going on just finished watching a 2 part episode last night which was based around time travel - mind bending stuff - basically this lad called Bishop was sent back in time in order to save his 'present future', however upon doing so, a further futures mans 'present future' world is consequently being destroyed, so he is then forced to go back and ensure that the previous future man's past is not saved, thus saving his own... ...
  14. started to re-watch the whole series on netflix...great intro/theme
  15. yeaaa i'm thinking the same thing - i took an almost identical photo when I was there last year, except its just tilted a tad' lower and cropped:
