  1. There's a reason the prices are so different - the Octa is for sure a deeper machine, however personally I prefer limitations and immediacy over menu diving and having too much potential options. Just depends what you are looking for from it? Is it going to be your master/brain or just another instrument? In terms of the polyrhtyms and seperate track lengths - pretty sure Digi can do those fairly simply song mode - non on the Digi as far as i'm aware, but that doesn't stop you from just changing patterns on the fly, or potentially sending CC messages to change them. never really saw much use for song mode myself
  2. No experience with the OP-1 so cant really compare, but i'm really loving the DT so far - it's basically a DAW in your hands
  3. Colossal had such a bizare quality to it - felt as if it had been written for Korean audiences but then last minute changed (and translated poorly) to English. Even the ethics and character models within it didn't feel part of a typical 'american' zeitgiest. Something odd about it in either case. Watched the first half of that Meltdown Memoirs docu, so far its excellent! Beautiful how these films can bring together such a bunch of wacky folk.
  4. sounds yum looking forward to checking out 'THE MELTDOWN MEMOIRS' documentary, which is also probably on that blu-ray
  5. yea you gotta feel for the crew, as entertaining as it was to watch I can't imagine having to put up with that everyday on set - the star system is such a flawed dynamic, if any other member of the crew started pulling that shit they'd be fired on the spot! Street Trash Think a few people had mentioned this here before? By golly it was amazing.Go watch it now!...and get a good HD copy of it
  6. The Visitor 1979 Bit dissapointing, one of those films which has really intriguing stills and imagery, but between that it's pretty uneventful. Not terrible overall, decently put together, but just left wanting. watch at your own risk...but don't think i'd recommend watching it anyway
  7. Holy Mountain is incredible! even in all it's art'ness it has a brilliant sense of humor and tis' a thoroughly enjoyable experience
  8. Puppet Master: Surprisingly great! Top quality schlock with all the usual elements one wants. Shall be checking out sequels... Pusher: Nicely done, shall be checking out II tonight!
  9. Great stuff - thanks for the recs. Worked my way upto 'Human' so far. Really interesting scene in Florida, watched this last night - love seeing that the practise spaces were just storage spaces, everyone struggling to make it in such a niche scene Also saw there's a feature docu coming out about Death and Chuck Schuldiner, doing the round at festivals so should be out soon
  10. just rediscovered 'DEATH', only realised I had ever heard their last album "The Sound of Perseverance" but am digging the sounds of their earlier work - stuff off Leprosy and Human but my question - should I start at the very beginning and work my way up, or just check out a couple of the best albums?
  11. apologies, I was talking about the Digitakt should have made that clearer
  12. Only a few days into exploring the beast. Took me by surprise how different the layout, and to a lesser extenent the workflow, was from my experience with the MD UW. But I guess one just has to treat it as it's own unique instrument The main thing i'm scratching my head about is the saving workflow - can't seem to see any 'kit' selecting function, only saving kits to a particular sequence/bank - thw work around would be to just open the sequence you want with the particualr kit, change to a free bank and just clear the sequence, but a bit of a silly method, i'd prefer to just be able to select various kits i've put together rather than hoping around banks looking for a nice sounding kit, or making a fresh one everytime. Also, the control + all feature - the button combo to 'reset' is pretty awkwardly possitioned and very easy to hit the wrong key, which results in saving the kit, the opposite thing you would want to happen in a live situation any users out there with some tips, tricks or thoughts to share?
  13. agreed, but that's why I feel the need for these sorts of boxes, I know I wont have the pacience to sit at a computer experimenting long enough to achieve the effects, and even if I do achieve them - i'll second guess them because there are so many other possibilites! the boxes create a nice sense of restriction, plus the tactile 'live' feeling is like fuel to finish an idea, or at least commit to it also - feels like it's the new MicroGranny, except you have to feed samples through it
  14. dang...the GAS is indeed strong with this one Gotta love Bastl - can't wait to hear more examples, but pretty much sold as is
  15. I don't understand all the hate...I thought it was class! Expectations, like a phaser, were set to low - but turned out it was set... to kill Sure there was some hammy scenes, dialogue, things are different etc. etc. but on the grand scheme of things I think they did a fairly good job. They've done a better job at showing an updated depiction of the Star Trek universe then any of the recent film reboots. Only watched the first 2 episodes, and truth be told the "coming up on this season of Star Trek" TV segment which they ran after the show didn't fill me with so much confidence, but i'm happy to ride it out and see what happens.
  16. Child's Play Pleasantly surprised! Either my standards are dropping given all the recent B-movie madness i've been working through or this is actually executed really well...or its just better than some of it's competitors. Will watch more in series/10
  17. Ouch, i feel your pain...but if it makes you feel any better this is the 2nd time we've had to get our 61 repaired so sinking quite a bit of money into her can't imagine a time when analog poly synth were going for that cheap, its as mind boggling to think of a future where something like a Yamaha PRS-340 going for €500
  18. no, it really was crap. ah, good to know! was it a big blockbuster in Isreal, getting big media attention etc.?
  19. Looks cool! Thanks for the rec. I'm a sucker for bluray rippingly gorgeous films of this period. Are Criterion working with any online streaming services similar to Netflix? ...or even Kodi? Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me Very enjoyable, always avoided it as I thought it would be useless watching unless one has seen all of Twin Peaks, but seems to stand alone fairly well. Big Bad Wolves: Rather disapointing, had read some strong reviews but i'm not sure if it was the language/cultural barrier or if it was just poorly done but i felt it was tonaly a bit off, didn't really get much of the dark humor it advertised, and characters weren't really properly developed so situations and actions felt a little sudden and confusing. Not terrible but not great.
  20. Some much needed GAS relief - have a Digitakt + 0 Coast on order, splitting with friend so decently afordable ...can't wait (also having Poly61 repaired and planning to pilege it for Digi samples)
  21. Nice - been really loving Virtua.zip and 100% lately, hopefully it wont be too much of a direct mixing of the 2, but new material is always welcome Can someone please post here again when it's released in November, just to remind us all
  22. (some shameless self-promotion:) started an anthology comedy comic with some friends, first issue is the Drugs Issue, soon to be followed by the Sex and Rock'n'roll issues https://gumroad.com/happylifepress https://www.facebook.com/happylifecomic/
