  1. Yeah, I was thinking about it, and it's totally natural for RDJ to be influenced by Footwork. Did folks forget that Acid is not an IDM thing; that it came from Chicago? Footwork was growing from the same seeds as Aphex's main influences all this time, in parallel evolution. If you listen to Traxman, Boo, Rashad and Spinn interviews, the story in Chicago seems to be that Footwork is a direct evolution of Acid House, from generations that grew up on Acid, ghetto house, Detroit techno, and The Percolator. For Richard to not acknowledge or take any influence from footwork, despite his deep love for Larry Heard and DJ Pierre and so on, would be for him to intentionally dismiss and shun the children of that music in Chicago and live in the past
  2. 100% agreedfuckin' A, man. I have been waiting for this kind of material since Syro, since there has been so much back log material out (which is great in its own right.) Hearing T69, following after the London LP, I was starting to doubt that he would venture out much further than that. I will try to manage my expectations, but, I am very excited
  3. I've said this in other opn threads, but I am just really not a Boyce fan. I'm a fan of low- poly crappy 3d art, but most of his stuff just feels really dull and shallow. Empty stages with ugly 3d objects slowly moving around and morphing don't do it for me.
  4. Man, I do not like the video for We'll Take It, but The Station is pretty great. Weird art style, kind of off-putting, but good
  5. Yikes. I come into this thread to read about the album, and... the Kavinsky posts are pretty rough. I understand ignorance is a thing, and I dont know where you live to have "not heard of" trans people, but just FYI since you are finding this stuff out now: "transgender = guy in a dress" is reaaally offensive and dehumanizing... please educate yourself. Here are some handy resources: https://transequality.org/issues/resources/frequently-asked-questions-about-transgender-people http://mywhyisus.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Vocabulary-My-Why-Is-Us.pdf https://www.glaad.org/transgender/allies
  6. level or organization: psychotic Jon Rafman "Hello Spiral Desk Concept"
  7. Fanless! I'm jealous, that's like the main reason I want to replace my laptop. It has plenty of power, and does well with audio processing, but it is heavy as fuck, and the fan is LOUD. It fucks with my head when I am trying to write
  8. lol during the whole promo of GoD they made this entire website with a fake band and tons of links to all kinds of things vaguely (un?)related to the album or the idea behind it, and one of those links was a .pdf to this philosophical book about 'abjection' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powers_of_Horror its a bit above my head but it seems to deal with yucky gross ew stuff Granted, yeah, and he also references this Rabelais book in the press for this one, which is supposed to have lots of "crude and scatological humor"... but like, if I like making fart jokes, that doesn't mean I put a bunch of fart noises in my tracks
  9. I dont understand criticisms of the artistic direction of the album, it being too poppy or not poppy enough... Y'all just make the music you want to make, right? Why should it be any different for anyone else? I think this album is really unique, and if he had strived to sound more "opn", or more conventional, it would be more homogenous and boring. What makes me keep coming back is how varied and weird this album is. I don't see the problem. Admittedly, when I play any part of this album around my wife or my mom, I don't play the album front-to-back, so yeah, I don't think it's accessible. But I, a fan, am happy, and I think Dan seems to have evolved his music and seems proud, so... Misson accomplished? On a side note: whats with his obsession with bodily sounds, like coughing, hacking, growling, groaning, wordless screaming? I kinda thought he would leave that in GoD, but by my account, there's something roughly in this category in Age Of, Manifold, Black Snow, myriad.industries, Warning, We'll Take It, Same.... Christ, thats like, half the album, and only Black Snow and Warning seem to have a thematic reason for it as far as I can tell.
  10. this happened for me with GoD!! The show was terrible. What was wrong this time? The recording at the Armory was A++ Also, I'm sorry that happened! Disappointing for sure
  11. So stoked for the EP... Seems like it will just about complete the Myriad set list? The Station is just the best... also, only song I have heard directly about internet addiction.
  12. Fuck, We'll Take It is intense! This album on earbuds vs. car stereo is night and day. Not to say this isnt true for most things, but like, seriously this is such a hi-fi album. And it simultaniously punishes you and rewards you for listening to it very loud. Man, kudos Daniel. This album is impressing me more and more as I dig into it. This, absolutely. And it fucks me up how unabashedly weird he is, and his music is, and yet... dude has come so far, with interviews with every paper, celeb followers, genres spawned after his work, and so on... Like Aphex in the 90s. How is this real life? This album is definitely inspiring me to want to make weirder music.
  13. On listen 3, and it's definitely growing on me a lot. Listen 1 of new OPN is usually kinda rough, and this is no exception, but it's coming together for me. I still kinda wish there was also a studio version if the Myriad band version, as I think some tracks were better in that format. Anyone notice the quiet geiger counter noise in RayCats? I like a lot of the little details. Fav tracks so far: Manifold, The Station, Black Snow, RayCats. I also really love the 2nd half of Toys 2, but I feel like Daniel kinda fucks up the first half with unnecessary distortion. *shrug*
  14. I am so obsessed with the Myriad live version of "Still Stuff" The vibe of those blocks of songs remind me of Eno's "Another Green World", and a bit of Momus and Anne Laplantine's Summerisle ?
  15. He wanted to add vocals, but isn't a trained singer and can't sing without going out of tune. I've done the same thing; it's useful to be able to express yourself with your voice without adding the cringe-factor of off-pitch vocals
  16. I havent heard the leak, but, since we have the set list for Myriad, what do people think about the track order... published version VS. Myriad chronological/era-based order? Is the flow better one way than the other?
  17. yes yes yes. It bothers me so much. Only heard it on the live recording so far, but I was confused
  18. Really, cheers for the recording! Top quality stuff. If the live show is any indicator, this album is going to be AMAZING.
  19. Man I want this but I can't find it out of all the MILFs that want to fuck tonight and pop-ups/notifications trying to hijack my phonelolThey're so ready for you, all those hot russian singles. I heard they have this new thing, it's like... the craigslist for fuckin'.
  20. Hey attendees, how were the giant smell sculptures or whatever? Super curious about the non-concert elements
