  1. And some good trax... cant find a lot of my discoveries from this year on SC or youtube unfortunately. I've been buying tracks off of DJ Rome via email, lol. Also look for the "CRACK" compilations if you havent. Lots of 07-10 footwork ala Bangs N Works. https://m.soundcloud.com/iamdjro/4-i-cant-believe https://m.soundcloud.com/dj-rome-6/dj-rome-yall17
  2. Here's some good bandcamps: https://innocuous.bandcamp.com/album/takeoff-ep https://djmc35.bandcamp.com/album/kill-bill https://culttrax.bandcamp.com/album/eye-of-the-circle https://kushjones.bandcamp.com/album/traxx-vol-2
  3. I'm gonna participate this year, but I expect to miss weeks, as I have many irons in the fire
  4. Damn Lewps, awesome as always. Especially love the first one. I like how long it takes to take in all the visual information, there's a lot of good little details in these that change my mind about the paintings as I look at them
  5. Thanks very much! I really like the paintings, fxbip and lewps! Here's some more collage stuff for this project, with the tracks that go with 'em (in spoilers)
  6. Woah, nice stuff Rotwang. It's a cool effect, kinda 90s lookin. A couple of those remind me of Jabu Jabu's Belly from Ocarina of Time
  7. I forgot until last week that this is my favorite WATMM thread of all time, I think I am almost caught up from 2014. Awesome stuff on this page Patternoverlap (as usual). I have been super into scanner & photoshop as a medium, and I have made about 20 collages in the past week for an album of old trax I am putting together. Here are some highlights
  8. I dunno that it's pedantic. I know it's not cool to be serious on WATMM except when bitching about how X artist/scene is ruining IDM, but I genuinely feel like this shit is important. My name on here is fucking Ganus and I have a dog avatar, I only take myself so seriously, but c'mon... you and I have both been on this forum a long time, and I dig your music, I just want to have a genuine dialog with my peers.
  9. dumb question. probably lots of musicians you listen to are queer but it's hardly the first thing yoi check...True but also it can be relevant to understanding an artist's background. It's a huge life event to come out to your family, friends, co-workers, etc. And it's a huge part of every day life when you are not in-line with the default gender and sexuality of society. It's also an amazing experience to discover what it's like to be comfortable with yourself after growing up and coming of age in the closet. Anyway. Natasha Kmeto is great. My album doesnt have lyrics, but it has a track about not fitting in with boys or girls & living as an outsider, and a track about transition & what that was for me while I was (still am) going through it. /end self-promotion Edit: Btw I really don't want to be preachy, I am just a nerd for queerness. If you are not interested you don't gotta read it.
  10. This is what happens when crusted IDMers try to keep up. I'm quietly heading to cistimeout and deleting my PC tunes because it's over. lol❤
  11. I gotcha, I was specifically addressing xxx's post, which was not just about the music.
  12. Video is pretty silly, but there's nothing wrong with being ultra-feminine. It's all part of the gender spectrum. There are definitely ultra-feminine cis ladies as well. As long as all trans* people aren't expected to be ultra-feminine or ultra-masculine. I get where XXX is coming from with the compensation, because there are ridiculous expectations from both cis folks and some (mostly older) people in the trans community for trans* people to "pass" as cis, and a lot of trans* people can get to have insecurities about what is expected from them to be a "real man" or a "real woman". Also xxx your friend sounds kinda transphobic. Yes you can fuck trans* people and still be transphobic. Folks that seek out trans* people to hook up with or date need to be respectful and woke about trans* issues, and what you describe sounds possibly like he's taking advantage. P.s. I never got ultra-feminine or ultra girly from Anohni... She has a huge, dramatic stage personality and always has, but I have seen interviews where she is presenting female/post-coming-out, and she just looks & talks like a person... no glossy makeup or ultra girly clothes or affectation.
  13. I listened to this album this morning with my family, and it was a really nice mellow start to the day. I appreciate the carefully curated sound palette, it goes a long way toward achieving the world building theme. My toddler and I danced to some of the tracks. Good work! As a fan of Magic Crystal, I was not at all let down.
  14. I dont care if/when he puts out new stuff, I have so much other music to listen to. I just want the long teased-at MFM to come out so that I can share it with my family.
  15. I'm late to this question, but this is my jam. V/VM is in your face. It's all on table, and very immediate and jarring, a subverting and sometimes loving bastard child of the source material. Leyland Kirby is mood music. It's an atmosphere to live in, to read in, to talk in, or be introspective. Similar but different, The Caretaker lives in a place between the concious mind and the subconcious mind. It's not meant to be gripping, it's meant to let you take your mind off of it and let it soak in. When the caretaker shines most is at times when the barrier between the concious mind and the subconcious is thin. The most interesting experience I had with An Empty Bliss Beyond This World was when I tried to nap on a bench on campus, and I was slipping in and out of conciousness, and that album was on in my earbuds... the tracks repeat themselves, the atmosphere is deep, the sounds cut off suddenly mid sentence. It can become otherworldly. Another example is, I had a while where I didnt have much going on, and I would jusy play skyrim with Patience, Extra Patience, and An Empty Bliss on repeat in the background. It's music you can lose yourself in. It becomes its own world, its own peace of mind. I think you have to be relaxed and open to it for it to sink in though. I havent been able to get much out of his recent stuff, because I have been mostly listening to music at work. My life has been to hectic to put myself in that place. I have early onset dementia in my family and this music has given me a weird peace of mind about it before.
  16. Haha, alright. It's an odd reference, and the track has lots of weird little brand and pop culture references... I dunno, the two singles I have heard since Blonde have sounded good, but I dont really know what he's going for. Maybe it's just missing context for me. I feel like Blonde really shines as an album, but most of the tracks are less impressive outside of the context of the whole.
  17. My standby has been the Sennheiser HD 205 for like 8 years I think. I've had Sony and AT ones, but they have broken far too quickly for the way I treat my headphones... The 205s, I have only ever owned two pairs of. First one lasted til the plastic broke. Still have my second pair. I got both refurb for $30, and they are the absolute easiest to solder if (when) the wiring goes haywire. The sonys I had have these super thin wires threaded between the joints, which is just a huge pain to repair and poor design, had this issue within 6 months of use for two different pairs. The 205s, you open up the cans on the side the headphone wire comes in, and the solder pads are right there. Sound is pretty balanced overall, but definitely weighted on the low end.
  18. I wanna talk about the new version here if nobody minds, cause it's impossible to keep up with the bleep store thread. So, this is now a 17 track album, mastered in good digital quality... Remember when Aphex said he had 6 albums ready, some of which were very experimental? This may or may not be recent output from him, but that shit is coming true. My fav moment is when the melody from T13 Quadraverb, which has been knocking around since SC 2014, comes out in T16 MADMA! I did not expect that. I'm honestly super happy with this album, and I appreciate how it came out in parts, some good expectations management lol - how could I be disappointed? Also T18A (track A3) is now a full, almost 4 minute song, which I actually quite like
  19. the cops are here, cheese it

  20. that's so ganus

  21. Needs moar triplet flow After having listened to this a bunch on my own and with my wife, the only track I dislike is Pride.
  22. I just wanna point out that these tracks are published, and are most likely as done and fleshed out as they will ever be, so they are "finished". Even though they are not A-list Aphex Twin Album tracks, there are lots of releases like this in his discography, with some of the best gems, and these may be tracks he really likes.TLDR just try to appreciate them for what they are. I know your post was positive, this aint a critisim.
