  1. I just had the worst fucking night my korg nano kontrol has been broken for a year plus, because the USB connector broke off after like a month of regular, non-abusive use (hint: there's a reason they're fucking cheap) tonight I tried to repair it, and as the solder pads were completely shot, I just spent like 4 hours trying to solder wires to a female mini USB socket (I lost the old one) that I salvaged tonight. It didn't work, I burnt my fingers to shit, and when I was just trying to ragequit, I pulled the soldering pen's plug out, and received the worst shock of my life. basically just one step below full on electrocution. fuck fucking fuck shit ass cocks. I am buying a new one and stealing the pots of this one just to spite it.
  2. Makes sense to me. Sounds like it has a really good flow for when you just want to jam out a tune, plus I imagine the physicality of all the pads and knobs makes for an engaging live show.
  3. A launchpad and two akais? Do you get absolutely crazy in the studio, or do you just like to have a lot of pads around?

  5. Hardly. I don't believe that black people can only listen to low-brow music, and I never tried to say such a thing. I didn't say that out of racial prejudice, I am just very frustrated recently, with being surrounded by white college students IRL who listen to nothing but Tribe Called Quest and Biz Markie, and people on the internet who will go on for pages about how great MF Doom is. Biz Markie is no great intellectual in the field of rap or hard to comprehend. Also, sorry, "made for white people" is bad wording. It just feels like that after you hear a bunch of white skater kids praise the hell out of Odd Future, and proceed to complain about how 90% of rap is stupid and worthless. Also, I do not think of southern rap as "low-brow." There is quite a lot of intelligent southern rap, as has been mentioned in this thread, and I do not think it should be panned as a whole. I happen to also quite like stuff like Gucci Mayne though, so I am not one who needs to be constantly intellectually stimulated I guess. I mean, the way it's kind sounding to me is that you're saying that black people who do listen to southern rap and not MF Doom or w/e the fuck, are low-brow, because they can listen to intellectual rap as it is indeed for black people too. idk. not trying to twist your words against you or accuse you of being racist, so feel free to ignore that last sentence.
  6. Why was it necessary to make a topic for this? Yes, Atlanta rap, like most other rap not made for white people (MF Doom, Odd Future, Deltron 3030, Dr. Octagon, etc.) or listened to primarily by white people (Tribe Called Quest, Biz Markie, Beastie Boys, Sugar Hill Gang, etc.) can be vapid and pop-ish. You don't have to love it, and you don't have to endorse what it stands for, but it's not necessary to whine about it. No one will ever force you to listen to it, no matter what you might think.
  7. Lots of Analord 11 love in here.
  8. Absolutely! Analog synths all over that shit, and deep bass in every song.
  9. I am hardly wise, I just hate it when people make generalizations about something I love. I don't go stomping into the stoner metal thread and talk about how lame and wanky it is, when I don't know a single thing about it.
  10. I don't listen to tons and tons of like, 60s jazz, which I know is considered THE jazz or whatever, but here are just a few favorites off the top of my head modern: Triosk Meets Jan Jelinek – 1+3+1 Polar Bear - Held On The Tips Of Fingers old: Django Reinhardt -Djangology (I know, it's an anthology, not an album, but it is all very good. Louis Armstrong – The Complete Hot Five & Hot Seven Recordings (Earl Hines and Louis Armstrong in their early days, brilliant) The Benny Goodman Quartet – Together Again!
  11. Yeah I can't really get into this stuff, to me, it just basically just suburban skater horrorcore. All my nerdy skater innernette friends drool over it alongside their Mr Bungle albums.
  12. Rainforest is definitely the main highlight for me.
  13. Just bought it. Can't wait to listen. I need to stop buying albums. I'm probably overdrawn again.
  14. it's a pretty great video. makes me feel better about my soundblaster card lol.
  15. I fucking love Goodiepal. I can never tell when he's dead serious and when he's fucking around. Also Mort Aux Vaches is amazing musically. Seriously though, if you want an interesting read, read his wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodiepal
  16. It really is more than just the recording itself. It's the collisions of aged vinyl, grit and worn-out grooves with the stylus. It's also like a one-time piece of performance art because, believe me, playing all 3 records straight through was a violent process. My tone arm and cartridge visibly groaned and hopped against it--I definitely won't play them again! I absolutely believe it. That's why if I sample, you are getting credit. This is a really well done (and sacrificial on your part) rip of a really unique record, in an un-replicatable condition.
  17. mind = blown I might have to sample this myself. I'll give credit if I do. Gorgeous lo-fi quality, and heartbreakingly beautiful strings.
  18. Honestly, I would probably enjoy this more without the kick drum. it's fucking great with of course, but god damn, that record sounds heavenly. Sounds like the caretaker minus reverb. If you did rip all 3 LPs like your wording makes it sound, I'd love to have the files.
  19. yeah this is definitely a weird piece to choose for this test. I remember I was able to do it with some 192kbps vs wav test at some point, but it had a lot of tons of high range and low range, unlike this. Not that I really care. I listen to things in 128 if that's what's available, and it's 100% listenable for me. I rip/download/buy everything in flac though, because I can spare the space, and if I have to convert or re-render or whatever the case may be, I do not want to deal with generational loss if I can help it. Plus some people are snobby about DJs playing mp3s, so I try to avoid it when I can.
