  2. I didn't know so many people hated 180db. I think it's a good track. Not anything overly special about it, but it's good for what it is. It's a nice segue into Syrobonkus. It DOESN'T prepare you for the mind-blowing nature of the following track :)

  3. I'm at work and I just saw this:

Spotify's Top 10 most viral tracks
    UNITED KINGDOM
    1. Imagine Dragons, "Warriors" (Universal Music Ltd.)
    2. alt-J, "Lovely Day (Bonus Track)" (Infectious)
    3. Slash, "Sweet Child O' MIne - feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators; Live at Spotify, London" (Roadrunner Records)
    4. James Bay, "Let It Go" (Republic Records)
    5. Aphex Twin, "minipops 67(120.2)(source field mix)" (Warp Records)
    6. SBTRKT, "Voices In My Head" (Young Turks Recordings Ltd)
    7. Flying Lotus, "Never Catch Me (feat. Kendrick Lamar)" (Warp Records)
    8. Slipknot, "The Devil In I" (Roadrunner Records)
    9. Waze & Odyssey, "Bump & Grind 2014 (Waze & Odyssey vs. R. Kelly) - Radio Edit" (RCA Records)
    10. Baz Luhrmann, "Everybody's Free (To Wear Suncreen)" (Capitol Records)
Above FlyLo and SBTRKT! I'm surprised.
  4. Okay.

After listening to it a total of 4 times with some songs on repeat after the first full playthrough, I have to say...

Fuck me sideways. Syro is a great album.

I felt that the record was good after the first listen, but it was hard to really commit it to memory. It's such a complex thing with so many varied pieces that it was hard to find something to connect to. Usually AFX tracks have some sort of common element within them you can latch onto first and follow it throughout the song, such as a melody or bassline, but most of the tracks on Syro don't have anything that lasts long enough to hook you while you try to absorb everything around it. Minipops 67 and XMAS_EVET10 are pretty easy to get early on, but the album gets progressively harder to process as you continue to listen. This isn't a bad thing at all because there's so much to discover, but it was just hard to form a real opinion at first. I listened to the entire record multiple times at work today and it finally clicked.

I had only listened to "the Metz track" twice before the release of the album and thought it was good then, but there's something about hearing it here in its purest form that makes it stand out. If there's a perfect song on Syro, then this is it. My only gripe (if you can call it that) is that it ends too early. I know the track is 10+ minutes long, but the best part to me is the "la la" part at the end and it just doesn't last long enough for when it is introduced. Small thing. PERFECT track.

Produk 29 is one track I haven't gotten into. It's not bad, but doesn't really do much for me so far. 4 bit and 180db are funky tracks, but the 6 songs that follow are what really make the album. CIRCLONT6A may be my favorite track on the record. It's a crazy Tuss-like banger with acid lines that I just can't get enough of. CIRCLONT14 sounds like it wouldn't have been out of place on Drukqs, which is a very good thing. syro, PAPAT4, and earth portal are pretty fucking awesome. It's good to hear RDJ play with Funky Drummer and Think breaks the way he does here. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but it seems like this is the first time he's used these breaks in his tracks. Aisatsana is a good way to end the album, but after all the chaos that preceded the track, I feel that it puts an abrupt stop to it all. That was likely the intention, so I'm not downing that. I just don't have much to say about it.

As a whole, I can honestly say Syro is the best album I've heard so far this year. I'm not ready to call it Album of the Year at the moment, but I would be surprised if it didn't end up that way.

I didn't mean to quote my own post, I don't know what I was doing. But anyway, I'm just blasting the record now when I should be reading and writing an essay for a class I'm taking. Damn Syrobonkus.

  6. So Syro is mentioned in Grazia, a glossy fashion magazine from the UK apparently (tweeted by Mira Calix)

I had a Time magazine issue that ran a feature on AFX releasing Come to Daddy. That photo was the one accompanying the article. This was obviously 1997. I wish I still had that mag.
  7.

i have 12 posts and I don't like the album imo

if you have below 100 posts, seriously get the fuck out of my face. It's like really? You want me to think your noob ass has a valid opinion? unbelievable

Post count makes your opinion more valid? Get the f**k out ma face. Just shows that you have less of a life.

Just kidding but, your attitude whiffed a bit.

You haven't been around long enough to have an opinion.

    :cisfor:

    Haha.

I've been here since 1999 and have less than 300 posts. Not necessarily a noob.

    I know it's a joke.

  8. I got a package from Bleep in the mail and thought it was Syro..... but it was the other stuff I ordered. I assume the other CD will come later.

However, one of the discs I ordered was the Ventolin EP. I didn't have it after all these years and thought it was strange that Bleep had it in stock. Well, what I got was Ventolin EP 1 inside of the Ventolin EP 2 case... It wasn't sealed and in the wrong case. Strange!

  9. Some of the fanboy gushing is really cringeworthy. It's just music ffs, or as your messiah said frequencies, not some life changing panacea.

Music has the power to change lives. RDJ's music did change my life in a way. It makes you think differently, can change the people you hang out with, the WAY YOU FEEL. Lots of different artists' music have changed me throughout my lifetime. It's helped me get out of several states of depression. I mean, you make music, too, right? What would you say if someone told you that they heard your tracks and it helped them get out of a bad situation? Would you tell them that made you cringe?

  10. I didn't know there was a leak. I was just excited that Bleep sent an email saying my CD has shipped. I will wait until it arrives.

In the meantime, I have had Chosen Lords on repeat for the past two weeks. I'll keep that going.

  11. i can't listen to this

    without thinking of this

or wanting to listen to this

Cilonen is pretty awesome, but I have to say this mashup works incredibly well. This is now the definitive version of the track.

  12. Of course they are. I hate the circle pad. I was very disappointed that you can't use the d-pad for movement in the game. The circle pad is so weak and imprecise that I prefer not to use it. A game like Super Mario 3D Land would have been so much better if that pad weren't so crappy. I know they couldn't put a real stick in it, but certainly they could make something better. Maybe that new nub they're adding to the "NEW" 3DS will be better.

  13. Never having been a huge fan of acid techno, though always a fan of AFX, I have been unnecessarily dismissive of the Analord series. I listened to volumes 1 through 5 with all the extra tracks in one sitting while cooking on Sunday and I have to say that it is amazing! Any other latecomers to the Analord party out there?

I have never listened to all of the Analord stuff, but what I've heard is really good. Seems like all the best stuff is on Chosen Lords. Reunion 2, Crying in Your Face, Boxing Day. I love those tracks.

  14. so does anyone think that Minecraft will come to the Wii U ??

With Notch taking shots at Nintendo on Twitter, I seriously doubt it.

Super Smash Bros 3DS codes are going out to Club Nintendo members in US, I believe platinum members are getting them first.

Edit: jeez people are selling these codes for up to $100 each!

A friend gave me one of his codes. It's really fun. Very fast. I just wish I could play with more than 4 characters.

  15. New 3DS models out 11th October in Japan:

    New-3DS-Ann-Init.jpg

"Nintendo will release two new 3DS models in Japan on October 11.

Dubbed the “New Nintendo 3DS,” the model will be available in both standard and XL versions.

The new models’ main new feature is a new C-Stick on the right-hand side, replicating the features of the SlidePad add-on for free camera movement. Upcoming games where it will be of use include Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Dragon Quest X Online, Final Fantasy Explorers, and Super Smash Bros..

Also new are the “ZR” and “ZL” buttons, as well as a 3D shake prevention function and NFC functionality compatibility. The system itself runs faster, as well.

For those who prefer a little customization, the system also offers changeable cover plates.

The standard New Nintendo 3DS will be available in white and black. It features a 3.88 inch screen on top and 3.33 inch screen on the bottom. It will cost 16,000 yen.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL will be available in metallic blue and metallic black variations. It features a 4.88 inch screen on top and 4.18 inch screen on the bottom. It will cost 18,800 yen."

I really wish they'd be a little smarter here. First off, when they bring this thing over here, they need to change the name to something like 3DS Plus, because "New Nintendo 3DS" is just going to be just as confusing to people as Wii U is.

The main problem will be having exclusive games that won't play on older 3DS models. There's no way I'm going to buy this new one as is considering I have only owned an XL for a year. However, if they come up with some sort of program that gives you like 75% credit toward the new model by trading in your old one, I'll happily do it. It just seems unfair. What about parents who go out and buy 3DS for their kids this Christmas? Shortly after that, the mostly-superior "NEW" model comes out and their kid's new gift is obsolete. Not only that, but the kid sees a game that he/she wants to play and asks the parent to buy it, and then when they get it, they find out that although it says 3DS on the box, it won't play on theirs. It's a slippery slope that they need to find a way to avoid when they launch it in the US.
