esaruoho, just gotta say my kids love "Strateface" and we all dance to that track at least once a week : )

Ohh! That's lovely to hear! I'll tell my wife - I should try and play it to our 3 year old toddler and see what happens! He used to love this Machinedrum remix of Rochelle Jordan: Lay. And dance to it. I'll try them back-to-back and see what happens

Met him once at a festival in Ireland, think he might have been living here for a while, he has a few classic tracks

Hi, yes, I lived in Dublin Ireland for 20 months, so from around March 2004 to October 2005. Did manage to play in Cork and Galway during that trip, but nowhere else 🙂

Wrote bunches of songs over that timeperiod, some of which are out. Even got to meet Mick & Paul Chillage for the Chillage Idiots show in October'05.

I miss being unemployed and netless in Ireland, since all I could do was work on music and then go to an internet cafe and deliver the trax/remixes for release.

Cull Streak and 28/06/00 in particular, donal dineen used to play him on national radio here, prob strange incidence of artists getting big over here before possibly even their own country

Donal Dineen apparently pretty much singlehandedly (with some assistance from some fan of Container playing the record incessantly at Tower Records Dublin, and CityDiscs doing their bit to support, too) built a fanbase in Dublin / Ireland. Which was amazing of them all. It's been 17 years since I've last played in Dublin, played in 2006 last. I miss the place :)

Shit then... I made a thread about this EP then literally just seen your one! Anyways, it's a very solid EP but I still prefer the older version of Kosmos.

Which one are you specifically talking about?

    There's three 🙂

Kosmos7 on "What you want isn't what you need" on NewSpeak Records (NSPK008)

    Kosmos8 (on this release

Kosmos9 (on the Kaneel / Lackluster split 3" CDr on Awkward Silence Recordings)

    let me know 🙂

  5. hi y'all thanks for posting about Alley - my first ever release on Hymen Records - they got in touch with me way back in 2001 and sent bunches of vinyl but I basically got spooked from sending anything there because all the other releases were simply of a higher caliber.
    Here's the press-release for it:

lackluster is walking down the alley and calls us to join him to his irresistible universe full of emotive and gleaming idm sounds. alley is alternately simplistic, beautifully melancholic, ambient / beatless to gorgeous melodic and chilled electronica in a  bold and consistent mix.

Influenced by the amazing variety of sounds in the 1980s and 1990s, Esa Ruoho grew up with an inspired musical background. As the close of the century came, he began to experiment with his own equipment and sounds and through this his main project Lackluster was born. Certainly, the picturesque surroundings of his homeland Finland would also impact the direction of his style and his trademark sound. Beautiful, whimsical, catchy and memorable are words that listeners often use to describe his compositions. As styles come and go you can always hear a bit of Esa's personality and unique sound within his music. Esa also records more ambient drone material as one-half of the side project HLER. Having recorded for iconic indie labels such as DeFocus, U-Cover, Merck and others, his back catalog is brimming with highlights. The future is just as bright as Esa maintains his artistic integrity throughout these tough times and challenges the listener to come along for the ride.

Yeah, and have you heard the original? No disrespect to Mr. Ruoho but he completely blows it out of the water.

he knocked that track out in a day or half a day or something. maybe less. it came right at the end of the deadline for the remixes for FOC354 12".

and yep, it's one that is really liked. and, if you want to hear something that was completely retinkered/retooled, check out the original "Ix Pen" and then "Brothomstates Ip Xen" on Claro.

man I need a mix with that kind of music. what genre is that exactly? if you look for "minimal techno" mixes all you get is trance mixes.

    try looking for dub techno

    Fan Feedback from Roel Funcken:

It features outstanding production that is almost forensic in it's detail, but remains utterly free of any pretension, always sounding organic and natural, never clinical. It has a huge breadth and variety of style but remains focused and consistent. It is both complex and subtle, yet each track features beautifully-layered melodies that are highly memorable. Favorite track: 1.

  11. It's kind of nice that there's this really juicy stuff just floating around out there, though, innit? I like it that way.

No, it's not nice. So here's a Brothomstates / Airliner Series archive on GoogleDrive. plenty of remixes by brothomstates, compilationtracks and live gigs from brothomstates. Dig in.

    Link removed

  12. Woah - I didn't realise that's was that song from the live set he put out a long time ago. Been hunting for the name of that one for years ! I love the change when it moved to the second section at 2:25 - I notice it's missing the Blue Velvet sample that eventually made it onto the 'final' version.

as far as i can understand, you're talking about the brothomstates live set which also featured tunes by antti koivisto (ex-brothomstates), mikko karvonen (yolk/cncd aka crankshaft), and crankshaft played his part of the collab track that is featured in that demo. or, maybe "his part" is incorrect altogether, and what we're talkin about is an actual collab track, of which crankshaft was only able to extract the bits that he had access to with his gear.

    nevermind

  13. There was a track of his kicking around many years back called "Not Kava" from a compilation Penguin Mechanics Vol 3. It was up as a free download on some site and I had it, but subsequently lost it in a hard drive crash and haven't been abel to track it down since. It's a really really nice track!

he had tons of tracks released on V/As and quite a few rare remixes.

http://www.scene.org/~esa/bsdiscog/ - it's fairly out of date, but the rare comp trax r still listed.

of course, discogs will fill you in better.
