  1. I've been listening to a lot of noise music this past year, and decided now would be a good time to dedicate a thread to it. By noise, I mean power electronics, harsh noise, industrial (the more experimental non-EBM variety) and more abrasive avant-garde music. But feel free to post anything in the general spirit of noise here, be it noise rock or whatever. As long as it's good and noisy post it here. I was lucky enough to pick up two Thirteen Hurts CDs at this year's Victoria Noise Fest, both of which are top notch amazing noise albums. This is a video of him recording one track off of his Chemtrails album: Unfortunately it's tough to find anything of his online as he seems to be a physical-release-only artist. But both albums are definitely worth the $10 or whatever it is. You can contact him on his facebook fan page if interested: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Thirteen-Hurts-13Hz/273233096049035 --super friendly guy. Fun fact: his studio is solar powered. Another album that blew me away this year is schallbruch - WakeGaze, available for free here: http://redvenicerecords.bandcamp.com/album/wakegaze It's extremely well crafted, very dark and heavy-as-fuck. I wonder what this guy's background is, as it sounds like noise made by someone who has a long musical/studio history. Chefkirk's Harsh Digital Works Vol. 1 is a another release that really grabbed me this year. As the title suggests, it is extremely harsh, digital noise, but there's something about his tones and textures that I find quite interesting. His treatment of sound is very distinctly his own. You can stream/download it for free here: http://bitbybit.bandcamp.com/album/harsch-digital-works-vol-i Die-Burial-Rot is another texturally compelling noise artist whose track names are fantastic. Case in point, The Hideous Death Cries of a Million Investment Bankers Parts 1 + 2: https://soundcloud.com/die-burial-rot/sets/hdcmib Both he and Chefkirk have a very minimal approach that really highlights each individual sound. Another favorite for me this year was a collaboration release from John Wiese and Lasse Marhaug entitled County and Western (actual release was 2010). The tracks are like collages of jagged percussive sound bites interwoven together with blasts of feedback and static. It's effective in its use of dynamics, making the really noisy sections absolutely devastating. These guys really know their shit. Unfortunately this was the only excerpt I could find on youtube, and it's one of the less noteworthy moments on the album: -I may or may not have found the download on a pirate's blogspot... but if I did, I will definitely be purchasing the physical one day because it is excellent. And of course everyone's at least heard of Merzbow, but he releases so much stuff it can be difficult to know where to start. Of the 50+ that I've heard, 1930, Pulse Demon, Venerology and Noise Embryo and Surabhi are all standouts. His mid 90's period was his best imo. It's not music you can really appreciate on a shitty system or from a shitty youtube stream, as I think getting immersed in the sound is essential for this music. But here's a shitty youtube stream of a Pulse Demon track anyway: Actually this is still somehow hitting the spot even through my lap top speakers. But hearing it on good headphones while walking along the breakwater is a truly awe-inspiring experience. Okay, that's enough for now. Let's hear your noise recommendations!
  2. ▶︎ epoch | KMRU (bandcamp.com) new album from KMRU and might be the first of his i'll dig in on. he's been getting a lot of buzz for a year or two (or more?) but never been my speed. this one is really sounding unique and nice on my initial impressions just breezing through. cassette available too.
  3. Noticed that there aren't really any JC-L threads on here so I thought I'd make one cause I find his music absolutely mesmerising (his In Summer EP and Songs of Forgiveness album in particular). - Does anyone have any his physicals or has anyone been to one of his shows?
  4. Virgin Babylon Records, releases September 9, 2023. First album in 7 years and a triple album at that! He's been one of my favorites for the longest time so I wish he was more well known. His "Dream's End Comes True" album was the first electronic album I had ever heard, and it blew my rock-music-only-ears at the time. It's thanks to him that I got to know Aphex Twin because some of his music is heavily influenced by his "RDJ Album" period. Fun fact: this guy was in the audience at the Aphex Twin gig in the Shinjuku Liquid Room in Japan back in 1997! https://virginbabylonrecords.bandcamp.com/album/resistance-the-blessing Tracklist: 1. unPrologue Birthday Resistance 2. 5. For 2023, and for the 40th year of Illusion of Safety's existence, the project's progenitor Daniel Burke invited Arvo Zylo to work with him in putting together a new release. This entailed going through several hours of audio and deciding whether or not it could be useful, either as source material or finished product, but also included certain "treatments" from Zylo, in the process of deciding what was finalized. Burke says: "I worked diligently with Arvo compiling and mixing the best material available, distilling the modes and methods I've been using for some years: field recordings, electronics, electro-acoustic, and synthesis. Some of the raw materials are my first recordings with the Eurorack modular synthesizer dating back to 2010, and were used in the collaboration with Shen Wei Dance Arts for our performance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC on 6-6-11."
  6. It's hard to believe that this is the first full-length release by Sharkiface, the solo project of Angela Edwards, whose trail of achievements and accolades began in the 90s, in Austin, Texas. Starting with her experience booking and doing tour management for Daniel Johnston, she then moved to the Bay Area and quickly became an important staple, collaborating with local exploding psychedelic stalwarts Hans Grüsel's Krankenkabinet, Tarantism, and (rumor has it), Caroliner Rainbow, among many others. Sharkiface has toured the United States steadily, with some stints in Europe and Japan, and has been featured at fests such as San Francisco Electronic Music Fest, No Fun Fest, Colour Out of Space, and Ende Tymes, to name a few. Despite having done splits or collaborations with familiar names like Rodger Stella, Leslie Keffer, or Fletcher Pratt, and running a venue called Life-Changing Ministries, this is still her first truly solo outing as a recording artist. For "Climax In A Process", Sharkiface brings out career-spanning material, but also newer tracks, freshly inspired by her experience achieving an MFA in Electronic Music at Mills College, where she studied under "expert noodle wranglers" such as: Zena Parkins, Laetitia Sonami, John Bischoff, Chris Brown, Tomeka Reid, James Fei and Kala Ramnaf. Although Edwards' actual process remains somewhat mysterious, it is readily evident that voice is a main impetus for her work, which is, at times, processed through various extremely rare electronic instruments, tape delays, samplers, and other custom devices. It is because of her lengthy experience using voice with this set up that she has been called a "static witch", and on "Climax In A Process" she says she explores not only the metaphorical values of a full moon, but also the loss of loved ones. In one case, for example, she can be found using the numerical value of a birthdate to create arrangements, altogether developing a narrative either sonically, symbolically, or spiritually, the themes of "memories, shadow work, incantations, processing trauma and redemption".
  7. Not what I was expecting when the email came in, but liking this Blawan and Pariah do metal-noise, or whatever genre. Menacing. Will annoy the neighbours with this.
  8. New album dropped on the 22nd, a companion to 2019's Solastalgia [Room40].
  9. Released today to coincide with his passing last year. Great electronic artist, and label curator
  10. Didn't see anything on this yet, but a lovely new(ish) work from Kelly Lee Owens. Definitely different from her previous outings, but full of lush. https://kellyleeowens.bandcamp.com/album/lp-8
  11. I am starting a new radio show, the first episode is tonight, 9pm GMT via https://soundartradio.org.uk/ "The Tump Clump" is just an hour, once a month, of mainly new music I have discovered from all over the place. A mix of vinyl / digital and me chattering. Taking in noise, drone, improv, experimental, industrial, techno and even some sludge drone metal stuff this time. Basically, my usual melting pot (if anyone has read my zines its like that) This was recorded in my shed. Due to covid restrictions still in place - live broadcasting is not possible for everyone yet from the real studios. I recorded it live in one take and you can tell as I fluff up a few times and my vocals are quiet / mashed a bit with the vox I added. Hey ho. A learning experience. The music is the key. From the studios I plan to do live vinyl mixes plus I want to do a live techno/noise jam with my hardware. And I am allowed phone interviews too if anyone fancies it - lol - no swearing tho. Artwork by the fantastic blackcloudsummoner - I feature one of the collaborative tracks with Territorial Gobbing under the WET MIRROR name. Always looking for new tunes to play in future shows so HMU. Shows will go up on Mixcloud after - Ill stick links up here after. Cheers Soloman Tump
  12. https://fxbip.bandcamp.com/album/reach Some more bip braindance trx.
  13. Experiments in industrial-noise soundscapes. Love the first experimental acid track a lot. Really digging this. ''Force Majeure’s self-titled six-track debut LP of noisy soundscapes, illbient beats and experimental techno drops as a digital release on French label Concrete Collage on 13 April 2022. This short LP traverses a dark path into noisy and dense layers of processed sound – brooding and powerful in its intent, but still retaining some intricacy and dynamics.''
  14. Hey! Just finished up our RPM challenge, and wanted to share with you all. It starts out with more “normal” electronic music and then descends into experimental noise and ambient chaos. Inspired by the writings of Rick Remender, specifically Black Science- traveling thru alternate layers of reality like an onion. It’s free to download here: https://ccundefined.bandcamp.com/album/nacreous-allium The challenge info is here: https://www.rpmchallenge.com Thanks for checking it out! Enjoy!

  16. Dismal Chant “Benzene Hyacinth” on Declassified Affairs. C30 tape individually dubbed in real time with 4 page booklet 30 minutes of Gulf War Syndrome heavy electronics. A corroded monument to the war crimes immortalized by the never ending stream of broadcast news imagery. Windswept marches to the ends of the earth. The minds eye sees all. A diamond on the horizon. Raytheon Youth death cult! Benzene Hyacinth by Dismal Chant Preview video
  17. https://tokinogakecollective.bandcamp.com/album/202109 https://tokinogakecollective.bandcamp.com/album/202108 https://tokinogakecollective.bandcamp.com/album/202105 there's another release i was too lazy to embed...but basically this is a few musicians, some of which i'm fans of (IKTS, nankotsuteacher, etc.) who are just compiling i guess sorta collaborative stuff and weird bits together into these kinda wild albums. i've only grabbed one so far but they've all got choice bits in there. definitely more on the experimental tip, but really there's a little bit of something for everyone. getting some sorta ICASEA/Gescom vibes at times.
  18. https://andregoncalves.bandcamp.com/album/grnlr Bogdan shared this on tweeter and just listened to most of it, really nice stuff. from earlier this year, kinda tense and tending towards experimental and a touch of noise perhaps.
  19. this one came out a few months ago on SUPERPANG and i've been listening to it a hell of a lot. it didn't terribly impress me on first blush, but it's one of those that really reveals itself on further listens: lots of dark ambience/noise/drama but never cheesy or tryharding to be 'soundtrack' stuff or whatever, but also not full on weird/experimental like a lot of SUPERPANG hits me as. feels wrong tagging it as 'ambient' just cause there's no beats because it's really anything but background music. anyway, will probably be on my top 10 this year, really worth checking out imo https://tomhall.bandcamp.com/album/failed-attempts-at-silence
  20. From Decal/Legion Of Two... https://frontendsynthetics.bandcamp.com/album/feedback-loops-1
  21. I'm not familiar Novi_sad, but today sees the release of his first album for Raster. Already loving this. Field recordings intermingle with diaphanous tones, sometimes punctuated by moments of noise. Oceania starts off the album with processed field recordings, soon delivers a gut punch, before the relaxing again. One of those tracks that will give you a jolt if you've got your music on shuffle. I've been very impressed with the direction Raster has taken since the dissolution of Raster-Noton.
  22. Myself (as Soloman Tump) and Stone Jaw followed up our 2020 split, and created a socially distanced collaborative dungeon synth/noise/drone/weird thing that we christened Clairvont. We each worked independently on layers of sound, not knowing what the other was preparing, only guided by a rough duration. Sounds like it could be a complete clusterfuck, right?! Well, actually it turned out to be semi-cohesive and it helped us come up with the project name and premise. We layered our sections, and with some simple volume / EQ control, The First was created.
