  3. Over the years people have stated several tracks in the Universal Indicator series were done by specific people. Of course, I never jotted any of it down. I know some are Aphex Twin, some are Mike Dredd, and some (like two or something) are Grant Wilson-Claridge. For all I know others were involved too. So, which tracks belong to who? This isn't Jazz, is it?

  7. These files have been sitting on a CD for 20 years now, and I brought this up once back in 2013, but since I have never been able to positively identify the artist(s) behind these tracks, thought time to give it one more try. If you were on this forum before the crash in 2005, there was one day when a user named "RJD" with a radiation symbol as their user icon, claimed to possibly be Richard, and something like - he was backstage at some event killing time and decided to chat with WATMM, and then began posting links to random mp3 tracks. Does anyone else remember this, that's still around? I asked Joyrex about it in 2015, and if I recall, we both had a somewhat fuzzy memory. Anyway, these are the files, and I did relabel the original files (sorry) to fit my OCD back then, filling in the blanks with best guesses. These things make me suspect it could have been Richard, or Johnny Hawk, or both: 1. "Badgers" - these tracks were from the mid 2000s, a decade before that badger picture went viral, and that's a really random ass coincidence IMO (my guess it was a years-old inside joke between these musicians) (a distorted vocal loop from what sounds like a children's show) 2. "Mashed Potatoe 3" - it's misspelled, and again someone had mashed potatoes on the brain. (a distorted vocal loop of children) 3. "Pop Quorn" - another coincidental title akin to the Caustic Window track. (sounds of popcorn or simulated popcorn, detuned) - Quorn also sounds like a Global Goon track title 4. "Arched Maid 200694" - this is the real kicker in my mind to suggest either Richard did an early alt. take on this track, or maybe Johnny Hawk used to do covers of Richard's songs, like Mike P did starting out? (this really sounds like an early version of the AFX track, done in a much different style, and the date in the title fits the release timeline) 5. "Ourson 3" - I'm almost positive this is an extra track from the SAWII era, the synth sounds are exactly the same, so unless someone else recorded this on Richard's Yamaha CS-5 (like JH?) who knows. and someone said the SKETCHES files were possibly done by Nautilis? (I've heard that twice over the years, but no idea who told me anymore) (the SKETCHES files were not relabeled) I've also tried searching the wayback machine, but haven't been able to locate the user "RJD", if anyone else wants to try https://web.archive.org/web/20041010152216/http://forum.watmm.com/index.php?act=members the artwork is just an old photo I found recently
  8. Hi! Is there a thread anywhere that brings together all the different interviews and press releases that Aphex Twin (under his various aliases) has given? I had a brief look in the archives and the closest I could find was a broken link to a .doc file. Magazine scan-ins would be preferable as it's less likely they've been mistranscribed. I only ask because seeing his April 1993 interview with Future Music in another thread here a while back is partly responsible for me getting back to my "sample all the things!" roots, helping me shed that unhelpful gear lust and rekindling even more of my early passion for music making. That and I'm working on an article charting the various memes he uses, sprinkling it with the odd relevant quote about his process and methodology. Thanks!
  9. What Are the 10 Best Aphex Twin Songs of all time? (These are not Limited to That Pseudonym, Also Include thing's from AFX, Blue Calx, Bradley Strider, Caustic Window, GAK, Polygon Window, Power-Pill, Q-Chastic, Or, If you believe so, The Tuss)
  10. Since I started my intrest in Aphex Twin I have seen 3 advertisments containing music by AFX himself: "One Hour Photo" Channel 4 film trailer (Schottkey 7th Path) A Car Advert (I forgot the brand) [shiny metal rods] Channel 4 trailer which I forgot the programme (Thw Waxen Pith) If anyone else sees or hears Aphex Twin music on TV programmes or adverts it would be apreciated that it be posted here. Also shows/ads before I started checking with AFX music and foreign programming can go here too. edit: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416869/
  11. I've made a little walkthrough for Samplebrain, Aphex Twin's new sound design tool. Hope you all enjoy it.
  12. In the Aphex twin download, theres a 1997 show I passed on ages ago. .. eh, i think it was me who had it from years ago! I'm enjoying it again but it should be pointed out that its probably mostly Cylob (at his very best in my opinion) with a few tracks by Aphex twin at the start only. May it was a collaboration? Don't think so to be honest. Lots of great ulyssesses cartoon samples thrown in! this was an Australian Rephlex showcase i think.
  13. It's time to make a definitive thread on this mix. Basically it's my favourite mix of all time ever since I stumbled upon it at age 12. It's also still my most listened to set ever, but I never could find anything about the tracks played in it except for Yazoo - Don't Go... Over the years I added a few tracks to the list (just like their Ultrasound broadcast which is also almost complete + Aphex's Snowbombing set), but never got very far without proper jungle / hiphop / break knowledge. I do remember going nuts when Ceephax finally released that Turrican track and later when Luke released that Plug track, just because of the nostalgia from this set. I always listened the 55 minute version but discovered years later that there's a 15 minute longer version, with even more acid + jungle + noise, which is exactly why this mix seemed so impressive to me compared to the typical 4/4 techno music I listened to at that age. The eclectic tracklist completely changed my mind about music and from then on I appreciated a lot of different music, so the influence from just this mix really can't be understated. Anyway, any help from watmm to complete this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwUN5LACu2I Albert Cabrera, Carlos Rodgers & Eddie Krakaur - Why AFX - 3 Slothscrape Yazoo – Don’t Go Kimberly - Misjudged Love (Barbarian Berrios Beats) Tod Dockstader – Travelling Music / Eight Electronic Pieces #8 (throughout) Hyper On Experience – Watchusnow Ceephax Acid Crew – Turrican II Victor Gama - Meninos Anjos Desceram A Rua Plug – Drum ‘N’ Bass (14m - 17m-ish) ? 14. Since the other thread has grown to 20+ pages at the time of this posting, I think it's a good idea to post a general "what's going on" FAQ to let everybody know what the status of the project is. I'll add to this as I have the time and address as many questions as possible. So, without further adieu: The Kickstarter is LIVE NOW! Click Here! 9/4/2014 @ 1:30CST: Huge news! We're lifting the number of contributor restrictions so anyone who wants it will be able to purchase it! More money for charity! More money for Richard/Rephlex! More money for the seller! What's this all about? What's "The Caustic Window LP"? How is WATMM releasing Richard's music? Is the world coming to an end? The Caustic Window LP is a legendary unreleased test pressing (only 4 5 known to exist) that was supposed to be released after the run of Joyrex EPs on Rephlex Records. For various reasons, it was decided to hold off on this 2xLP release and release other artists' music on the label. When a mysterious seller on Discogs appeared offering it for sale at an eye-watering 13,500.00 USD, folks jokingly suggested to crowdfund an effort and buy the LP so everyone could have a rip of the vinyl. Fast forward to a few days ago, and being the crazy bastard I am, decided to reach out to Rephlex and see if we could do it - and Richard and Grant said yes! We've been granted one-time duplication rights (aka make digital copies of the vinyl tracks) for 600 people all the people who fund the upcoming Kickstarter project to get a digital download of the music. Rephlex will never officially release this album, so this is a once-in-a-lifetime opprotunity to own some rare, classic electronic music! What's Kickstarter? Kickstarter is an increasingly popular way for artists and individuals and companies to fund projects and causes by getting individuals to "pledge" an amount towards a goal, and if the goal is met, the project owner then follows through with the promised items in return for the contributors' support. In this case, we're allowing 600 people everyone who wants to purchase one digital copy of the LP, at approximately 16.00 USD (around 10.00 GBP, 11,20 EUR). Kickstarter only allows whole dollar amounts, hence why it's 16.00 versus 15.50 previously. Kickstarter also charges 5% and Amazon Payments charges 3-5% per funding transaction, so the total asking amount is 9300.00 USD to offset these costs and ensure the agreed upon amount is met. Who gets the money? Since this is not a traditional record release in almost every sense, I came up with the idea that the money for the record would go to the seller (which Rephlex negotiated with to lower their asking price to 5,000.00 GBP (around 8,300.00USD), and the money from the Kickstarter will be paid to the seller. All involved (Richard, the seller, Grant) felt this was better than some collector getting it (and possibly leaking it onto the internet) and give the hardcore fans a chance to own this rare (non) release. Since the Kickstarter has been so successful, people have been asking what happens to all the excess money - that goes to Richard/Rephlex. Who gets the record (the actual record)? Once the Kickstarter is funded and the seller is paid, Rephlex will deliver the record to a professional studio for the vinyl conversion, and produce lossless digital audio files. Then the record will be shipped to me for the second phase of this project. Then what happens? After that, the record will be put on Ebay and auctioned off, with the proceeds of the money being split among Richard/Rephlex, and a charity to be chosen by the WATMM community. When's the Kickstarter going to, you know, start? Kickstarter themselves has to approve the project. No set date is available yet, but we'll do our best to let everyone know in advance. The Kickstarter has been approved, but is not live yet - It will go live on Friday, 11 April, @ 10:00 AM CST. It's live NOW: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/watmmofficial/cat023-caustic-window-own-the-legendary-record-by What happens if the Kickstarter doesn't reach the funding goal? Kickstarter doesn't charge you, the backer anything until the project reaches it's funding goal (somehow I have a feeling this won't be a problem) - all you provide them is a credit card number to hold until the project meets it's goal. The seller will be then free to sell the record to anyone willing to pay his asking price. Bwahahahaha... *wipes tear* How are the audio files going to be made? One of our community members who has experience in ripping vinyl is going to do this, and will be producing a direct rip with no alterations to the tracks (aka post-software processing) using high-quality equipment. The equipment we're tenatively planning on using is a Technics 1210Mk5G with Arkiv Ortofon stylus (that has been "burned in" for a good sound), and we have purchased a MOTO Ultralite Mk3 audio interface for this, although this is all subject to change if we figure out a better combination of analogue and digital equipment - our goal is to provide the cleanest possible rip, and we will NOT being doing any sort of post-processing as not to dilute the inherant quality of the audio. The audio files themselves are most likely going to be in FLAC format to preserve quality and reduce the size of the download. We're also considering hiring a professional audio engineer to do this, so stay tuned! We will be using a professional studio to do the vinyl to digital conversion. We have not decided on which outfit will be doing this, however. Will WATMM members get first dibs at the Kickstarter? You're here reading this, so hopefully you're already in the know (and a WATMM member). - A PM was sent out to WATMM members first letting them know the Kickstarter was live. What if I don't have a credit card? Does Kickstarter take PayPal? According to Kickstarter's Pledge FAQ, they only accept credit cards. Sorry! Why should I support this? Once the digital files are out there, it's going to be pirated anyways. Well, beyond the obvious legal reasons for doing so, my thinking is if you are a true fan of Richard's music, and a fan of music in general (regardless of genre), this is a no-brainer - plus, you're part of a unique event in music history! I think it goes without saying that the hope is everyone who is part of this "does the right thing" and keeps the digital files to themselves as something special. Plus, depending on how this goes (or not), this might open up future opprotunities (no promises - this is pretty unique in music history).

http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/nicer-tuesdays-june-2017-weirdcore-140717 Watched this the other night - lots of nice insights. Loved the Hecker visuals explained as they were real nice in 2009...... ... whatever will he do next! PS even though he's pixelated I don't think that's him at Flow plus as he says himself he's working with the lighting guy
  16. I made a mix of all? Most? of the more chill/ambient remixes by Pritchard/Middleton. Sadly, it looks like “Remotion” is unlikely to ever see a reissue/expansion, so this will have to do, I guess… currently sitting at #2 in the Mixcloud Ambient chart.
  17. While searching eBay for their current AFX listings, I came across this apparently official Aphex Twin Come To Daddy snowboard. http://cgi.ebay.com/aphex-twin-snowboard-a...1QQcmdZViewItem The seller is currently asking for $1,000 Buy It Now + $50 shipping. Does anyone have any info on this snowboard? Is it official like they claim? Are any of you fan boys going to actually buy this thing? In my opinion it does look pretty cool. lol.
  18. Hey WATMMites. I periodically make megamixes out of music I like, and I think many of you may enjoy these; multiple tracks or portions of tracks are layered over one another to recontextualise well known music or to create new tracks all together! here is the latest one I've put together: Sometimes these are more strictly themed, such as this 'All Aphex Soundcloud Dump' set I put together early last year: I've uploaded 7 so far which you can hear at the following link if you wish: https://www.mixcloud.com/Sweguno/ Enjoy!
  19. How is the Aphex Twin situation in 10 years from now? No new releases? Still hanging around with russian kids? Still touring?
