  2. For those that haven't seen this in the Aphex Twin forum, thought I'd quickly place this here. BBC Radio Cornwall is doing a vote to honor a historic Cornish music location for BBC Music Day. The Bowgie Inn as many of you know is where Richard started DJing as a teen along w/ Tom Middleton, Vibert and GWC. Couple days ago we were a distant third. We've pulled up front, but I'd like to see us totally destroy it, unless you want to see an Oasis recording studio win. I've successfully voted multiple times from different wi-fis too as there is no registration. Vote for Bowgie! http://m.cornwalllive.com/vote-for-which-legendary-cornwall-location-should-get-a-blue-plaque-on-bbc-music-day/story-30155057-detail/story.html

  4. I made these last year as components to larger mixes. Isolated them here for ease of listening. The first one is White Water & Bucephalus Bouncing Ball: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43353797/Sweguno%20-%20%27Fex%20Vs%20BoC%201%20-%20Bucephalus%20Water-Ball.wav Next one is Skyliner & Peek 192875652387984792849385676349876: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43353797/Sweguno%20-%20%27Fex%20Vs%20BoC%202%20-%20PeekLiner.wav Enjoy (?)

  8. I recently discovered that The Tuss was Richard D. James incognito (confirmed by the man himself), and have been really enjoying the two released EPs. I've also been seeing a lot of non-EP trax on YouTube, though, and was wondering if anyone here has a list of those official non-EP trax? I say "official" because I've also noticed that there IS another, probably bogus artist called The Tuss who's released trax on YouTube, but of course I'm not interested (never was, really) in that kind of gross-out joke music...

  10. 20 years ago Aphex Twin's debut album "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" was released. Time for a reminiscence and Aphex Twin-only anniversary mix. Enjoy.
  11. Which track on the recently-released Cheetah EP is your favourite, and what format do you prefer listening to it on?
  12. Could this be bigger than CAT 023 - Melodies From Mars, on VINYL, unplayed on Ebay - direct from Rephlex HQ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291171368296
  13. After about nine years of inactivity, it looks like http://www.aphextwin.nu has finally disappeared. It was an incredibly useful Aphex Twin fan site that had dozens of interviews and the like. Luckily, I took the opportunity to wget it back in February. I'm currently looking into the feasibility of mirroring it for posterity. Does anyone know where I can contact the site owner?
  14. Anyone else ever noticed similar vibes between Silver Sun and Fenix Funk 5? Finally mixed these few tracks together and they work blindingly well IMO: "Silver Sun" even sounds a bit like "Fenix Funk" if you have a speech impediment.
  15. This thread is about memories. About music that made you, influenced you, kicked your arse, kept you alive and floating. Post your mix (past, present, future) of your all-time favorites. I start with my Ingredients 3 - Passive Aggressive mix, back from 2008 or so feat. (of course) Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert, FSOL, Luke Vibert, Funkstörung, Goldie and a few more. Enjoy my flashbacks. And I am looking forward to yours. https://www.mixcloud.com/BertoltBrechtakt/ingredients-3-passive-aggressive/
  16. Yeah I always wanted to create this topic, but I always told myself to wait... so here it is and I hope there is room on this great forum for this topic. For me personally, electronic music and drugs were always associated with each other. I'm not talking about club culture - that would be to obvious. When I started to listen to good music - early Pink Floyd in my case - I also started enjoying weed. When I discovered electronic music like Aphex Twin or Clark I continued smoking weed and found out about psychedelic drugs, mostly acid. Whenever I produced electronic music I was at least high on weed, in the last years it even took some psychedelic afterglow (when the effects of the drug go away, but you feel very rewarded and focussed and happy) to motivate me to start a serious track. When I started enjoying electro/acoustic or more complex, ambient stuff I was in a phase doing lots of ketamine. So... I've taken plenty of stuff over the years and I'm only 23 right now I also had to experience that drugs are seriously bad, m'kay. I'm talking about a small psychosis, which really turned my life up side down. This year I had to watch my best friend getting really mentally ill und being on a psychosis for some months until he was forced to get into a mental institution which actually was a good thing cause he was really a mess. So maybe you see where I am heading with this. I didn't used hard stuff for some while now and I recently even quitted smoking weed. But in all this time, besides of mixing a little bit, I really didn't get in the mood to produce (or even to listen to serious electronic music). I think this is the case because in my mind electronic music and drugs have always been connected. So I really would be interested in your opinion and your experiences. Maybe this post should be something like a warning for young users on here, thinking stuff that I used to think like "Afx is just made to listen to high" or "Weed makes you so creative". And maybe you have some ideas how to improve my situation. I'm even as far as thinking that electronic music is not really something the sober me wants to do or is good at - maybe it was just a stoned teenage dream...
  17. Most know by now that there's official album art featuring a list of the gear purportedly used in the making of Syro: And a spreadsheet version that shows what goes on which track: https://docs.google....6S9GnEU/pubhtml But what exactly is all that gear? Here is a youtube playlist featuring demonstrations of almost all the equipment listed. The only ones omitted were rare modules, microphones, pre-amps and EQ's that weren't available on youtube, but they are all legitimate devices, searchable through google. Something to look through for your christmas shopping, a help to guess what might have gone where on the album, or just an opportunity to gawk at the best synthesizer and audio hardware on the planet. Thanks to Hexahedral for transcribing the list into plain text and adding the spreadsheet version. I might also warn you that reviewing this unreal list, device by device, might lead to a severe case of gear lust; side-effects include envy, depression, madness. Talk it out here.
  18. The following is a true story & any resemblance to The Aphex Twin is an unfortunate coincidence Last October I tried to master Polyphasic Sleeping. You know, that thing where you take strategically timed naps so you only sleep two hours a day total. It was great at first - 22 hours available, witnessing days flow into one another, playing guitar in the road at 3AM. I made shit tons of tracks. But then things got weird. I started seeing things out of the corner of my eye wherever I went. I couldn't form coherent thoughts. And the tracks got increasingly nonsensical. After a few weeks I caved & ended up sleeping 17 hours straight. I reviewed what I had made over the course of that month & decided it was unfit for human minds & would thus never see the light of day. Until now. http://soundcloud.com/cryptowen/sets/one-weird-old-tracks-playlist So yeah, these aren't really mastered right or edited or in any logical order but they're kinda fun.

    Aphex Twin 5 Hour Mix.

5 hour mix of my favourite Aphex tracks, from almost all his pseudonyms and styles. Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OtwLY9HpE0 I'm expecting this to get removed by youtube at some point

  21. Acid in the jungle, in the in the jungle. So many funky synth lines to digest, masterful adoption of the amen was a given. DnB/jungle as genres have been hammered to death, but trying to fathom how Richard makes it all sound so new (and fun!) is a real head-scratcher. Six minutes just isn't enough, I'm already finding myself greedily wanting more as soon as the track has wound up. Calling it an album highlight on day one. 163.97 bpms of glorious turbo lush 'phex.
