  1. Sha Sha Kimbo draws endless amounts of inspiration from the rave scene of the 1990s, honing her own high-energy club excursions while gliding through the house, techno and breaks styles of the jaw-swinging, acid-tinged past. On “Omega High’, the final cut from her debut album, Mind Your Head, the producer swirls sunny breaks into urgent synth stabs, closing the record on a powerfully nostalgic high.
  2. Collected a bunch of my tracks into a one-time easy download! Next batch of new tunes will be on vinyl so sorta just making a chapter here, but I think this works as an album. Actually kinda neat to hear them all together like this. All very bassy braindance electro, sorta like I'm trying to make this one song I have in mind and then... you know... https://coolandfrank.bandcamp.com/album/my-brooklyn-dad-winter-coat Maybe this is a LAME PLOY, but I'll send you a download code if you tweet the album or probably if you just PM me and ask :)
  3. I am so pumped to tell you guys that my EP is available on vinyl for presale today! Order at Juno, Small Black Dots, and HHV. Previews are at all those shops and the Soundcloud link in my sig. A1 Bergorne A2 Golden Wall B1 Dusty & Green B2 When 4 Ravers Come Crashing B3 Pipe Pope Grape Without this board, this release would have never happened. I never would have heard half of the music that inspired me -- Rolando Simmons, Zvd, Beatwife, Dwaalict, D'tachi, Mopfunk, Vytear, Thevco, Li+Flux, Beathaven, Monolith, Thdiot, Microlith, EvoAva, the list goes on... And my stuff has been greatly improved by rinses in YLC threads. Hope you guys order and enjoy!!!! And tell me what you think :) :)
  4. I'm putting out an EP with Sleepers Records (Berlin) soon. I've posted many of these tracks in YLC as Coolio Franco and I am super psyched that it's all going on vinyl. The Sleepers folks are great guys who put on parties, mostly in Berlin, and have already released records from Nubian Mindz and CN. We posted a preview which is a 20 min live mix. https://soundcloud.com/sleepersound-2/ss-cool-and-frank
  5. Orbital I and II (the Green and Brown albums) now reissued on 180g double vinyl for discerning 90s enthusiasts. https://www.normanrecords.com/records/154710-orbital-orbital-green-album- https://www.normanrecords.com/records/154711-orbital-orbital-2-brown-album-
  6. Here's the 60 minutes mix I recorded last night, big number of 90s tracks, enjoy! http://www.mixcloud.com/SirAdamo/house-mix-22-06-2014/

Seriously, this band is amazing. Leaves Turn Inside You is probably my favourite record of theirs (it's like some sort of Daydream Nation of the 00's), tho all their albums are awesome. Does anyone else listen to them?
  8. I have had this up for a while but haven't posted it here yet. Anyway, I've found myself listening to a lot of live recordings of sets recently and in some cases (e.g. AFX Untitled 4) I think the live version might be better than the (eventual) produced version. I dunno, there's something about the crowd reactions and the low-fi quality that I have come to like. So I piped in some crowd noise and reverb to make this sound like a soundboard recording. I think it works. What do you think? I'm going for a classic IDM with some vocals thing. If I had decent synths (and talent) I'd probably be trying to do what Trackermatte does, but alas, I've got Reason and a fundamental misunderstanding of melody. Lyrics are "That bridge is a trophy for math." http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3313111676/size=medium/
  9. Chill Number This is a track and goofy video for sports / animals fans I made as Coolio Franco. I am pretty new to the board so you can imagine I was, uh, slightly embarrassed when I saw the thread about terrible band names. In my defense, it was my championship fantasy baseball team name back in 2005 so, well, there's that. I can't imagine there are lot folks from UK familiar with veteran-great Julio Franco. Anyway, I'm going for a relaxed 90s indie idm thing (Ultramarine, etc.). This track doesn't have too much 303/909 stuff but that's where I typically like to be. Also, I like to have some simple vocals-- in this case the song is about my wife getting me to appreciate the beach :) Maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself, but I would love to find a home for my stuff-- maybe an opportunity to put a track or two on vinyl. If you have any suggestions in that area I'd love to hear them. As always, constructive criticism is always appreciated. I think this track is my most enjoyable. My sig is a link to more of my stuff.
  10. So I've been spending the past week or two trying to figure this out. I want to get a synthesizer to sound like it's from the 90's or like BoC or something (specifically VSTs). Songs from BoC and Aphex have synthesizers that have this kind of old, tape quality to them. I'm trying to recreate that. The only thing I've noted so far is that adding a slight pitch LFO can make it sound kind of like BoC. But I'm more focused on the quality of the sound, not the sound itself. I'm attaching a file of a synth I tried my best to sound like the synth at 2:20 of... When I listen to mine, it sounds like it's right in your ears and harsh, but Aphex sounds much more nicer, softer, and not so directly in your ears I guess you could say. I realize mine sounds nothing like Aphex, I just don't know what step I should take next. So how can I achieve that particular quality of sound? Thanks to any and all help.fffffff.mp3
