  1. Hi, I have a complete Analord binder (binder and records in mint condition) that I’ve owned from new since release. The binder was ordered direct via Rephlex’s website and the records from bleep.com as they were released. I haven’t played them and they’ve been in storage since buying. I’m getting more into buying synths/hardware and making my own music now and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a swap for their old/unwanted synth hardware. Ideally, and maybe in my dream world 🙂 ,I’d like a Roland JX3P or SH101, but would consider any sensible offers of analogue or digital gear. Also I live in England near to Folkestone in Kent so would prefer to trade with someone in London/South East so we could physically meet and exchange the items. If this of interest to anyone then drop me a message. Can provide pics etc to confirm condition.

  3. In the Aphex twin download, theres a 1997 show I passed on ages ago. .. eh, i think it was me who had it from years ago! I'm enjoying it again but it should be pointed out that its probably mostly Cylob (at his very best in my opinion) with a few tracks by Aphex twin at the start only. May it was a collaboration? Don't think so to be honest. Lots of great ulyssesses cartoon samples thrown in! this was an Australian Rephlex showcase i think.

  5. It's time to make a definitive thread on this mix. Basically it's my favourite mix of all time ever since I stumbled upon it at age 12. It's also still my most listened to set ever, but I never could find anything about the tracks played in it except for Yazoo - Don't Go... Over the years I added a few tracks to the list (just like their Ultrasound broadcast which is also almost complete + Aphex's Snowbombing set), but never got very far without proper jungle / hiphop / break knowledge. I do remember going nuts when Ceephax finally released that Turrican track and later when Luke released that Plug track, just because of the nostalgia from this set. I always listened the 55 minute version but discovered years later that there's a 15 minute longer version, with even more acid + jungle + noise, which is exactly why this mix seemed so impressive to me compared to the typical 4/4 techno music I listened to at that age. The eclectic tracklist completely changed my mind about music and from then on I appreciated a lot of different music, so the influence from just this mix really can't be understated. Anyway, any help from watmm to complete this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwUN5LACu2I Opening track - ? 8. The purpose of this subforum is to list Ebay, Discogs (or other site), or personal sales of records so other members of the community can be aware of your sale and hopefully help one another out - you can also list items you're looking for (music related only), and perhaps someone on here has what you're looking for and is willing to part with it. When posting, please preface your Topic Title with any of the following: EBAY: (if it's an Ebay auction) FOR SALE: (something you're selling personally) WANTED: (something you're looking for and wanting to buy/trade) This way people can easily see what's available (some people don't like to deal with Ebay and would rather buy person to person), and it keeps things tidy. Try to be as clear as possible and avoid ambiguous titles like "my collection for sale" - rather, say "My Aphex Twin Vinyl Collection For Sale". Any off-topic posts will be moved or deleted as needed, and if you see something that violates these rules or the Forum Rules, please report the post to a Mod or Admin.
  9. Was it James himself? Or a friend or what?
  10. Hi! Is there a thread anywhere that brings together all the different interviews and press releases that Aphex Twin (under his various aliases) has given? I had a brief look in the archives and the closest I could find was a broken link to a .doc file. Magazine scan-ins would be preferable as it's less likely they've been mistranscribed. I only ask because seeing his April 1993 interview with Future Music in another thread here a while back is partly responsible for me getting back to my "sample all the things!" roots, helping me shed that unhelpful gear lust and rekindling even more of my early passion for music making. That and I'm working on an article charting the various memes he uses, sprinkling it with the odd relevant quote about his process and methodology. Thanks!
  11. Aphex Twin will perform at Funkhaus in Berlin on Thursday, November 1st. Richard D. James announced his first Berlin gig in 15 years via Twitter this morning. It'll go down at Funkhaus, a former GDR radio broadcasting centre that mostly hosts large, high-profile events. There will be a show at 8 PM, when James will be joined by a "special guest," and an afterparty at 11 PM, all in the same complex.
  12. uh, the guy who did the Streets of Rage soundtrack and some other stuff I thought of this because I know he's been known to steal/borrow/be influenced by whatever music he was into at the time, the first Streets of Rage is known to take from a lot of 90's DANCE HITS (supposedly the main theme is a rip of Sadeness by Enigma). So some time a while back I finally got to try the third game and the music seemed to make absolutely no sense, it was really techno but on cheap speakers it just sounded like a bunch of noise. I downloaded a rip of the soundtrack and it makes a lot more sense with a subwoofer/etc. I dunno, I think a lot of the tracks sound like early AFX/Caustic Window stuff, but then again I know little to nothing about other HARDCORE TECHNO or whatever around that time period. Even if it's not AFX it's funny hearing what I'm pretty sure is supposed to be jungle/acid house on a Genesis http://www.zophar.net/music/vgm/streets-of-rage-3.html <--- if anyone wants to hear Track 8 really really sounds like some Aphex Twin track to me, maybe not so much the others but that one totally reminds me of some track I can't place. I was also thinking tracks 3, 7, 18, 19, and obviously not stuff like GOOD ENDING BAD ENDING etc. The timeline also fits, the game was released in 1994, which I forget exactly which albums were out by then but quite a few of them right also I guess Streets of Rage 3's soundtrack was made with an "Automated Composing System". How IDM is that
  13. Seems legit - "The set will be broadcast on Warehouse Project’s YouTube and Facebook pages from 18:00 pm (BST) tomorrow" https://crackmagazine.net/2020/04/aphex-twin-stream-warehouse-project-live/?fbclid=IwAR28HoqlAiVhqtiYet6MbYv2zb_KmzHr_4lRTQE8Z-tTICV25FNK0Q_sRRg

    Aphex Twin - Phlid

Anyone got this on mp3? It's that secret track (up there with the best of the rare tracks like Cunt and Phlaps) off the Select audio cassette compilation.
  15. Since I started my intrest in Aphex Twin I have seen 3 advertisments containing music by AFX himself: "One Hour Photo" Channel 4 film trailer (Schottkey 7th Path) A Car Advert (I forgot the brand) [shiny metal rods] Channel 4 trailer which I forgot the programme (Thw Waxen Pith) If anyone else sees or hears Aphex Twin music on TV programmes or adverts it would be apreciated that it be posted here. Also shows/ads before I started checking with AFX music and foreign programming can go here too. edit: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416869/

  17. I know many will disagree with me but I think he still hasn't been surpassed ( people have tried to copy him, yes, but even though he hasnt released much in the past 5 years ( barring Chosen Lords). I think his combination of chaos and beauty is something no one else can get quite near. ( Im talking about the overall package-beats-melody etc.. not just one or the other). His legend hasnt faded whatsover, most other artists could not get away with that. Anyways, just my thoughts..
  18. I think many of us go through different phases in our music tastes, and after spending a while listening to more ' regular' bands, 90s electronic music, and the (arguably somewhat nostalgic) newer releases by Aphex Twin/Squarepusher/Ae/Vibert/Jega etc., I'd like to hear something really unashamedly ambitious, challenging, and experimental. I don't mean punkish or crazy or noisy or breakcore-ey - I mean something chin-strokingly, brain meltingly weird and wonderful. Something incredibly nerdy (for want of a better word) following in the way of Autechre's most extreme and detailed moments. It can be as difficult as Cage or Schoenberg or Stockhausen or Xenakis or whoever, but from today, using today's technology. I recently heard some Komet, Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto and Byetone and a couple of other white noise glitchy mathematical sine-wave folk, and they sounded great, but not quite alien enough for what my ears are after right at this phase. There seems to be a bit of - I don't know - an ironic wink to what the old timers are doing now, a kind of nostalgic sigh, almost an embarrassed glance backwards, which is understandable, but it'd be great to hear someone who wasn't self-conscious about wanting to push things forwards. Can anyone recommend anyone? I think what did it was hearing Confield the other day.
  19. Hey WATMMites. I periodically make megamixes out of music I like, and I think many of you may enjoy these; multiple tracks or portions of tracks are layered over one another to recontextualise well known music or to create new tracks all together! here is the latest one I've put together: Sometimes these are more strictly themed, such as this 'All Aphex Soundcloud Dump' set I put together early last year: I've uploaded 7 so far which you can hear at the following link if you wish: https://www.mixcloud.com/Sweguno/ Enjoy!
  20. Post some movies with good music. Off the top of my head, Children of Men had Aphex Twin and King Crimson Lost in Translation had Squarepusher and My Bloody Valentine Dont remember specifics but Layer Cake's soundtrack seemed to fit well
  21. Nice ambient drone remixes https://keithfullertonwhitman.bandcamp.com/album/resonators-1
  22. Since the other thread has grown to 20+ pages at the time of this posting, I think it's a good idea to post a general "what's going on" FAQ to let everybody know what the status of the project is. I'll add to this as I have the time and address as many questions as possible. So, without further adieu: The Kickstarter is LIVE NOW! Click Here! 9/4/2014 @ 1:30CST: Huge news! We're lifting the number of contributor restrictions so anyone who wants it will be able to purchase it! More money for charity! More money for Richard/Rephlex! More money for the seller! What's this all about? What's "The Caustic Window LP"? How is WATMM releasing Richard's music? Is the world coming to an end? The Caustic Window LP is a legendary unreleased test pressing (only 4 5 known to exist) that was supposed to be released after the run of Joyrex EPs on Rephlex Records. For various reasons, it was decided to hold off on this 2xLP release and release other artists' music on the label. When a mysterious seller on Discogs appeared offering it for sale at an eye-watering 13,500.00 USD, folks jokingly suggested to crowdfund an effort and buy the LP so everyone could have a rip of the vinyl. Fast forward to a few days ago, and being the crazy bastard I am, decided to reach out to Rephlex and see if we could do it - and Richard and Grant said yes! We've been granted one-time duplication rights (aka make digital copies of the vinyl tracks) for 600 people all the people who fund the upcoming Kickstarter project to get a digital download of the music. Rephlex will never officially release this album, so this is a once-in-a-lifetime opprotunity to own some rare, classic electronic music! What's Kickstarter? Kickstarter is an increasingly popular way for artists and individuals and companies to fund projects and causes by getting individuals to "pledge" an amount towards a goal, and if the goal is met, the project owner then follows through with the promised items in return for the contributors' support. In this case, we're allowing 600 people everyone who wants to purchase one digital copy of the LP, at approximately 16.00 USD (around 10.00 GBP, 11,20 EUR). Kickstarter only allows whole dollar amounts, hence why it's 16.00 versus 15.50 previously. Kickstarter also charges 5% and Amazon Payments charges 3-5% per funding transaction, so the total asking amount is 9300.00 USD to offset these costs and ensure the agreed upon amount is met. Who gets the money? Since this is not a traditional record release in almost every sense, I came up with the idea that the money for the record would go to the seller (which Rephlex negotiated with to lower their asking price to 5,000.00 GBP (around 8,300.00USD), and the money from the Kickstarter will be paid to the seller. All involved (Richard, the seller, Grant) felt this was better than some collector getting it (and possibly leaking it onto the internet) and give the hardcore fans a chance to own this rare (non) release. Since the Kickstarter has been so successful, people have been asking what happens to all the excess money - that goes to Richard/Rephlex. Who gets the record (the actual record)? Once the Kickstarter is funded and the seller is paid, Rephlex will deliver the record to a professional studio for the vinyl conversion, and produce lossless digital audio files. Then the record will be shipped to me for the second phase of this project. Then what happens? After that, the record will be put on Ebay and auctioned off, with the proceeds of the money being split among Richard/Rephlex, and a charity to be chosen by the WATMM community. When's the Kickstarter going to, you know, start? Kickstarter themselves has to approve the project. No set date is available yet, but we'll do our best to let everyone know in advance. The Kickstarter has been approved, but is not live yet - It will go live on Friday, 11 April, @ 10:00 AM CST. It's live NOW: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/watmmofficial/cat023-caustic-window-own-the-legendary-record-by What happens if the Kickstarter doesn't reach the funding goal? Kickstarter doesn't charge you, the backer anything until the project reaches it's funding goal (somehow I have a feeling this won't be a problem) - all you provide them is a credit card number to hold until the project meets it's goal. The seller will be then free to sell the record to anyone willing to pay his asking price. Bwahahahaha... *wipes tear* How are the audio files going to be made? One of our community members who has experience in ripping vinyl is going to do this, and will be producing a direct rip with no alterations to the tracks (aka post-software processing) using high-quality equipment. The equipment we're tenatively planning on using is a Technics 1210Mk5G with Arkiv Ortofon stylus (that has been "burned in" for a good sound), and we have purchased a MOTO Ultralite Mk3 audio interface for this, although this is all subject to change if we figure out a better combination of analogue and digital equipment - our goal is to provide the cleanest possible rip, and we will NOT being doing any sort of post-processing as not to dilute the inherant quality of the audio. The audio files themselves are most likely going to be in FLAC format to preserve quality and reduce the size of the download. We're also considering hiring a professional audio engineer to do this, so stay tuned! We will be using a professional studio to do the vinyl to digital conversion. We have not decided on which outfit will be doing this, however. Will WATMM members get first dibs at the Kickstarter? You're here reading this, so hopefully you're already in the know (and a WATMM member). - A PM was sent out to WATMM members first letting them know the Kickstarter was live. What if I don't have a credit card? Does Kickstarter take PayPal? According to Kickstarter's Pledge FAQ, they only accept credit cards. Sorry! Why should I support this? Once the digital files are out there, it's going to be pirated anyways. Well, beyond the obvious legal reasons for doing so, my thinking is if you are a true fan of Richard's music, and a fan of music in general (regardless of genre), this is a no-brainer - plus, you're part of a unique event in music history! I think it goes without saying that the hope is everyone who is part of this "does the right thing" and keeps the digital files to themselves as something special. Plus, depending on how this goes (or not), this might open up future opprotunities (no promises - this is pretty unique in music history).
  23. Finally! Its here. The album you've all been waiting for, more eagerly awaited than Boards of Canada, more sought after than Aphex Twin, WATMM covers Squarepusher.
