  1. From Boomkat: Chicago-based trumpet player and electronic experimenter Justin Walter makes a lovely debut appearance on Kranky with his rarified first solo album. Sounding uncannily like the results of a secret hook up between Golden Retriever, Arve Henriksen and BoC, on 'Lullabies & Nightmares' Justin employs the Electronic Valve Instrument - a sort of hybrid trumpet and analogue synthesiser created in the '80s - to gorgeous effect, improvising frothy, fizzing loops of languid melody and scorched dissonance overdubbed with blunted drum patter and fractured electronics. It's all miles off
  2. Allegiance and Conviction is the Dearborn, Michigan ambient duo’s first album since 2012’s We Will Always Be. Written and recorded across six years, the songs swirl between shoegaze minimalism and stargaze drift, over which Windy [Weber] whispers veiled poetic narratives of transformation, isolation, and escape.
  3. https://soundcloud.com/kranky/high-plains-black-shimmer This is in fact Loscil plus some dude from Wisconsin who plays the cello. Out on Kranky now.
  4. Labradford's Robert Donne and Mark Nelson have announced their second album as Anjou, entitled Epithymía and due for release on Kranky in March.

  7. Wasn't aware this album was coming out until this song, 'Margins', came through on my soundcloud feed from Kranky. Sounding very nice indeed. https://soundcloud.com/kranky/benoit-pioulard-margin
  8. From Scott Morgan: “This album gets its name from an odd little ocean side park that borders industry and the Vancouver port authority and lays claim to being the birthplace of the city. “In a way, Sketches from New Brighton it is a continuation of a dialogue with my environment that started with First Narrows (kranky 2004) and continued with the Strathcona Variations EP (Ghostly International 2009). It is not a rigorous "study" per se, but more a series of sketches, loose interpretations of the spaces I inhabit as well as an acknowledgement of their influence on my practice. These are my i
  9. This guy is one of my favourite producers of immersive, meditative electronic music. New album is his best work yet. This cut is the warmest track on the album. From here it feels like you get pulled out into space, through a black hole and emerge into another universe: http://dummymag.com/reviews/2013/01/07/ethernet-opus-2/ http://boomkat.com/#cds/635139-ethernet-opus-2
  10. "Liz Harris / Grouper has collected 12 unreleased recordings from the sessions which yielded her 2008 breakthrough record, Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill, for The Man Who Died in His Boat, a new LP set to drop next year via Kranky. In addition to the new album, Harris and Kranky will be reissuing Grouper's aforementioned 2008 full-length, a record that we were rather fond of at the time—even saying of it, "Music this lovely could almost change the world." The Man Who Died in His Boat and the Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill reissue are both set to see a release in February 2013." look htt
  11. http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/mirroring "Amazing album of diffuse, DIY drone-pop from two doyennes in the field: Liz 'Grouper' Harris and Jesy 'Tiny Vipers' Fortino. The material featured on Foreign Body is every bit as subdued than its creators' respective solo work, but the collaboration is more than sum of its parts: Harris's searching, poetic command of reverb is as distinctive and quietly overwhelming as ever, and she sculpts gorgeously murky, sylvan atmospheres for Fortino to set her more traditionally folk-influenced vocal performances and finger-picked guitar lines in. The song-base
  12. Emeralds member Steve Hauschildt has completed his next solo album, Tragedy & Geometry. Hauschildt is best known for his work with Emeralds, the acclaimed electronic drone trio behind last year's Does It Look Like I'm Here?, but he's also put out string of solo releases since 2007 (one under the name Celestial Sprinkle). That said, you'd be forgiven for not having heard of them: all were released on cassette or limited edition CD-R through various underground experimental labels. Tragedy & Geometry will be his first solo release to reach a wide audience. It shows him touching on a

  14. http://www.awvfts.com/ So there are some tour dates set up for the new Adam Wiltzie (half of Stars of the Lid) and Dustin O'Halloran collaboration. Benoit and Ken are going to be playing some music too. Can't say for any other shows, but the San Francisco venue is 21+ so I won't be seeing your lovely faces there. Anyways, thought a fair amount of you would be interested to know this. It should be quite beautiful and enjoyable, considering how fantastic the new album is. Enjoy! 10/29/2011 Philadelphia PA St. Mary’s Hamilton Village 10/30/2011 NYC NY West Park Presbyter
