"Demdike Stare return to the lab with two extended new productions, inaugurating a series of untamed releases brought together under the Testpressing banner. ‘Collision’ was recorded in late 2012 and is pretty much unlike anything you’ll have heard from Demdike before, an intense high-frequency re-arrangement of Jungle and Noise, like a more brutal variant of the Demdike-affiliated HATE project, fed through a bank of analogue boxes and pedals, left to spin uncontrollably for 10 minutes before fading to black. ‘Misappropriation’ on the flip feeds off a different noise altogether, perched precariously between the mangled percussion you’d most commonly associate with Muslimgauze and the metallic clank of industry, a proper sunstroke riddim: angry and unforgiving." modernlove http://www.modern-love.co.uk/releases/demdike-stare-testpressing-001 [youtubehd]-KKK1L6qDBA[/youtubehd] [youtubehd]qPD5vNp8-3w[/youtubehd]

"The album recalls the strict and stripped funk of Anthony Shakir as much as it does Leila’s incredible debut ‘Like Weather’, eschewing the dark aesthetic both producers are best known for in favour of something much more visceral. It’s an album borne from a love of both pop and club music, made to evoke an adrenalised, hedonistic, as well as an emotional response." look / listen / piccadilly records http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/prod/MillieAndrea-DropTheVowels-ModernLove-95745.html

"Leyland James Kirby, one half of V/Vm and the mind behind The Caretaker and Leyland Kirby, has announced that he will be releasing a new album under his alias The Stranger this autumn. Titled Watching Dead Empires In Decay, it will be released through Manchester label Modern Love on 28th October. It follows on from a quiet 18 months, release wise, for Kirby. Having put out a prolific string of material in 2011 and early 2012, including an album and series of EPs as Leyland Kirby and two Caretaker albums, we've heard little from him in the time period since." "Watching Dead Empires In Decay is his third album as The Stranger, and is the follow up to 2008's comparatively overlooked (compared to the work of his other pseudonyms) Bleaklow. That album was among the starkest and moodiest of Kirby's solo work, inspired by the rolling moorland landscapes of northern England, and a thoroughly recommended listen - click here to listen and purchase from the man himself." "For Watching Dead Empires In Decay we're promised a similarly intense and immersive experience. "[it's] complex, singular, enigmatic, percussive, dark, and you just can’t work out how it was constructed," says the text accompanying the album's release. "Gone are the sampled 78s of The Caretaker, but it also doesnt exactly sound electronic - you just can’t quite fathom how any of it was put together: Field recordings? Found sounds? Sheets of metal scraped and hammered? Drum machines re-wired? It’s stark and unsettling, haunted, even troubling - but often just beautiful." look http://thequietus.com/articles/13296-james-leyland-kirby-the-stranger-new-album

"Whittaker has long been a prolific purveyor of textured, experimentally-laced sounds. While some of his projects have put out full-length releases, Faint Hearted will be Whittaker's first album produced under his own name" look http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=19212 modernlove http://www.modern-love.co.uk

"Released to coincide with his first tour of Europe, the album incorporates the live mix rehearsals of ‘Operation Neptune Spear’ with tracks made in their aftermath, recorded straight to tape and mastered by Matt Colton at Air Studios. “Anyone familiar with Fernow’s live setup will recognise the distinct nature of this material – making use of stems and partial tracks separated into a cassette system which is then relayered and mixed, effected with electronic processing. “In short – Fernow uses his tape machines like turntables in a mix, weaving a hazy and intuitive narrative of sounds that never quite head in the direction you expect, all imbued with an almost feral attitude that’s exhilarating to witness, their limitations (ever noticed how VS tracks end so abruptly? the tape ran out), and their mechanical machine qualities used to devastating effect.” read http://www.factmag.c...namented-walls/ modernlove http://www.modern-love.co.uk

"Ascetic Ideals is the second Suum Cuique outing, following 2010′s excellent Midden, and like its predecessor it’s a caustic, exploratory and uncompromising suite of noise and avant-electronics, made using exclusively analogue hardware. The identity of Suum Cuique was originally a secret, but soon after the release of Midden it emerged that the man responsible was Whittaker, best known as one half of Demdike Stare. Ascetic Ideals was apparently recorded in between sessions for Demdike’s Elemental. "The album is due out on vinyl on May 28 in an edition of 700 copies, via Modern Love’s Young Americans imprint [through which they've also issued Daphne Oram's Oramics and The Oram Tapes]." http://www.factmag.c...as-suum-cuique/
