  3. I made a thread previously for the Kassem Mosse LP Workshop 19. But I thought it would be good to have a thread to discuss their new and upcoming releases, as well as favorite tracks; all things workshop can go here. https://forum.watmm.com/topic/82457-kassem-mosse-workshop-19/ The quality control on this record label is off the charts good, in terms of both the music on offer, and the records themselves, which always sound amazing. I can honestly recommend everything they've put out, but here are some of my essential favorites for starters> https://www.discogs.com/Move-D-Feat-DJ-Lat%C3%A9-Workshop-02/master/847340 https://www.discogs.com/Marvin-Dash-Workshop-14/release/3247049 https://www.discogs.com/Marcellis-Workshop-16/master/815125 https://www.discogs.com/Even-Tuell-Midnightopera-Workshop-Special-02/release/4928321 https://www.discogs.com/Willow-Workshop-23/release/8984043 https://www.discogs.com/Various-Workshop-21/release/6733447?ev=rr https://www.discogs.com/Various-Workshop-10/master/247110 https://www.discogs.com/Kassem-Mosse-Workshop-19/release/5433572 Their new records have a tendency to just appear on the hardwax site with no press fanfare. The latest is an EP by a producer, D-Man, I had not heard of, but really feeling this one. The breakbeat that drops in this track is simply too good for words
  4. http://central-processing-unit.co.uk/ Sooo, what do you think of this record label? Thoughts? Meh? I likey. A lot. The whole thing, ya know. 5. Hey guys, First post here but I used to be a long-time member and just got busy with life. Back to do some lurking and occasional posting though. Hope all is well. I've got just under 300 pieces of vinyl here that I would like to get rid of. Most are either doubles or just things I don't want/need anymore. I think a collection like this is well suited to this forum as there is alot of works that are right in line with the heroes here (afx, sqp, etc.). Anyway, I'm willing to part this out individually, in lots, or even as a whole if anyone wants. I aim to keep prices really low and the more you buy the lower they get. I'd like to beat ridiculous discogs prices by a good margin and make these available at reasonable prices. So, have a look and just post here or PM me with whatever you want! I take paypal and ship out daily. Thanks for your attention :) While I haven't graded these individually there is a vast amount that is in mint condition, and generally everything is really top notch. If you need ratings just let me know. ===== acid, breaks, techno, electro, idm, disco, italo, minimal wave etc ===== 030303 - #3 214 - cascadian nights ep 808 state / ub40 - one in ten (remixes) adonis - 6. Time to lighten the load a bit... I'm offering up some stuff from my collection that I really don't need anymore (due to duplicates, etc.), plus a lot of promos and memorabilia I've collected over the 13+ years I've been doing this. I'm not putting prices on anything - most of you know what some of this is worth, and for those that don't, there are online resources to gauge how valuable/rare something is. Bottom line though, is I'd rather let you decide what you feel is a fair price for something, and if I agree with the price, then we both win. Anyone interested in individual items or packages should PM me, and it's on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any counter offers will be accepted, and I'll let you know if your offer has been upped and give you the chance to counter-offer. Inquiries about the items are fine as well. So, here goes: PAC-MAN Powerpill 12" vinyl - yeah, one of my earliest finds, and it wasn't in great condition when I got it, so not expecting much. By now most peeps should have their copies/downloads. So whatcha think? Sublime stuff imo, a more chilled out companion piece to the more energetic tracks on Chewed Corners. I wish it was longer. :/ Rimmy + Smeester are the standouts to my ears. The bit in Smeester where it's just the bass synth + drums = ♥ [youtubehd]Ri9oRbYbmas[/youtubehd]
  8. MEMORABILIA. COLLECTING SOUNDS WITH... Andy Votel. Part I Produced by Matías Rossi Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/research/memorabilia-andy-votel/capsula PDF: http://rwm.macba.cat/uploads/20131212/Memorabilia_Andy_Votel_eng.pdf Andy Votel’s first musical passion was hip-hop, which intrigued as well as attracted him: he wanted to find out how that music was made. Thanks to his resourceful father, he discovered that it was based on loops, and that many of them were samples from other songs. That was the start of his obsession with discovering sources, and of his scouring of records that were probably not earmarked for him at the time (the late eighties) given his age, 14, and location, Manchester. While his friends got excited over Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, Andy explored jazz recordings released on labels such as CTI Records and soundtracks by composers like John Cameron and Krzysztof Komeda. Over the past twenty years, Andy Votel has travelled far and wide in a quest to buy as many records as he could. Some have ended up making it into his works or DJ sessions, and others have found their way into the catalogue of Finders Keepers, the cult label he co-founded with Dominic Thomas and Doug Shipton. His personal collection of vinyls, which he admits to measuring in cubic metres rather than numbers, makes him an acclaimed “archaeologist” of unusual records, even though he refers to himself as the world’s worst archivists and admits that he can spend hours looking for a particular vinyl at home, sometimes even buying a second or third copy because it’s quicker. Andy’s main obsession is pop, particularly of the twisted and psychedelic kind. He feels an affinity for artists who have been sidelined by mainstream culture, and is particularly drawn to records that are written on, personalised or dedicated, because they tell a story. An unusual case worthy of study, in spite of everything, he doesn’t consider himself a fetishist. His main motivation is to listen to music, and the only way to get the music he likes is generally to buy and collect it. You can find the complete MEMORABILIA. Colllecting sound with... podcast series here: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/memorabilia_tag/
  9. So, record shopping is one of my favorite things to do on the planet. I love record shopping. I love records. I love record shops. I think New York has the best record shops in the USA (of the places I've been to). I love shopping for records in Portland OR. Amoeba in LA is great. Chicago used to be great in the 90s but has declined. There is something about the experience of flipping mindlessly through thousands of records with the possibility of finding a gem that I find very therapeutic. I could do it all day. I love well organized shops. The more genres, the better. I think the shop managers have a responsibility to know what they are selling and to know music well enough to categorize their stock as best as they can. I was in a shop last week that was laughable in it's organization. They just had a huge jazz section and a huge pop/rock section and some smaller sections for folk, classical, etc. Their hip-hop section had probably 20 records in it, half of which weren't even hip-hop. I think they had a Fatboy Slim record and a few rock records in there. It was bad. Places like that I think are just racist, honestly. Especially if they have a bad reggae section to boot. Even if they have a lot of "black jazz" records. They are still old, out of touch and should just throw in the towel. The same place had an electronic section with the usual Walter Calros, Tangerine Dream, Jarre records and the like. They completely missed the boat on having actual electronic records. The dudes behind the counter were in their 50s, maybe 60s. How do they expect to stay in business? It's really sad. The diagnosis on record shops is bad enough. Why stay in your stubborn, closed off, arrogant place. You'll just go out of business. Should one bring it to a shop's attention if they need a drastic wake-up call? It makes me want to open a record shop.
  10. Throwing up the last of my record collection because I figure it would be better for someone to have them that appreciates them rather than them just sitting in my storage unit.
