  1. I've been thinking about starting this thread for ages now. Rephlex is, at least in the grand scheme of things, quite a leftfield electronic music label. I remember especially becoming obsessed after listening to the Rephlexions compilation. It's mysterious and reclusive attributes obviously go hand-in-hand with the ways of it's artists. That said, I've quenched many of my questions and overall curiosity over the years regarding the stories and tidbits behind the "main" artists of the label: AFX, Vibert, Cylob, μ-Ziq, DMX Krew, Ceephax, Global Goon, Wisp, Bogdan Raczynski, Aleksi Perälä, etc. Still, there's quite a few releases and signings that still puzzle me: Whatever happened to Sam and Valley? I suppose their signing coincided with Rephlex touring Japan in 98'? Whatever happened to the Gentle People? Anyone every listen to the J.P. Buckle LP? The track of his on Rephlexions was an unexpected earworm after I heard it. Does anyone actually own this release? The one called 100% that consists of mailbox recordings. Anyone here manage to acquire all of the Universal Indicator releases? Freakwincey - I Farted...well to that I must ask why? Why the farting? Who is Dave Nicholls, aka P.P. Roy? He had a mix recently posted and I recall reading that he was the one who found the original copy of Black Devil Disco Club. Other than that, I'm only aware of the two releases at Rephlex. Also, that album cover, it's in that special category of wtf!? that leaves me intrigued everytime I see it. With these potentially being answered, I might risk killing whatever mystery and intrigue Rephlex holds in my mind, but what the hell. It's all about the music, right? I also figure this thread could serve as a general discussion of all the one-off artists who been on the label, many of which I have not listened to. I'd love any recommendations of underrated Rephlex releases. I know many watmmers have more thoroughly browsed the catalog than I have.

  4. it was a black and white picture with what looked like the majority of the rephlex crew. everybody was in what seemed to be a pub or someplace posing. had all famous artists and the obscure ones too. it would be great to see the picture again...

  6. Hello! Just registered to forum so I could share a playlist of all Rephlex releases available on Spotify. That's maybe 1/5 of all releases & a bit heavy on Cylob at the moment ;) Let's hope more Rephlex stuff appear on Spotify. Let me know if there's something missing! Many tracks are hand-picked from other releases, for example Drexciya 3 - Molecular Enhancement appears on 3 separate Clone reissue volumes. And there aren't that many complete releases available. Rephlex Records (playlist on Spotify)
  7. This is something I've been wondering a long time and thought to finally get my hands into. So if someone has done the tracklist for the Innovations in the dynamics of acid mix please post it here. Would be cool if I could finally edit the metadata of the files to correspond the original vinyl tracks. So what I'm after is the names of the tracks or colour+track number. You don't have to dig them yourself though if you haven't got them ready, I will try to sort them out myself. Only thought to ask here first to spare some effort. Google nor Discogs didn't give me anything.
  8. Pretty pricey, but it's remastered on double vinyl & does include a new instrumental version and DL code. A classic. https://www.normanrecords.com/records/115637-dmx-krew-nu-romantix
  9. Railway Raver had some really cool releases on Rephlex but then seemed to vanish back in to the 90s Anyone know if he started using a different moniker or what happened to him?
  10. I used to have this, now I want it again. Give me your AFX watmm, name your price. Excellent to Near Mint, preferably.

Release date is June 6, but for those who want to reserve a copy of the lim-to-150 BLUE vinyl version, pre-ordering is recommended, as it is sure to sell out quickly: https://darcangelo-suction.bandcamp.com/ More info/press release below. cheers, Jason @ Suction Records http://suctionrecords.com http://suctionrecords.bandcamp.com http://facebook.com/suctionrecords http://soundcloud.com/suction-records http://twitter.com/suctionrecords http://instagram.com/suctionrecords ARTIST: D’Arcangelo TITLE: D’Arcangelo (Rephlex CAT039 reissue) LABEL / CAT: Suction Records / suction039 RELEASE DATE: 06/06/2017
INFO: 6 track 12" EP; 500 copies w/150 on blue vinyl
Suction Records is thrilled and honoured to announce the reissue of D’Arcangelo’s self-titled debut EP for Rephlex, the legendary UK label run by Aphex Twin and Grant Wilson-Claridge from 1991-2013. D’Arcangelo are the Italian duo of brothers Fabrizio and Marco D’Arcangelo, active in the underground electronic scene under various aliases since the early ‘90s, and still going strong today. Released in 1996, their Rephlex debut “D’Arcangelo” was one of the first releases to make a firm connection between contemporary IDM/electronix and the sound of ‘80s synth pop. The 3 tracks on Side A are ripping, industrial-strength electronix, as fierce, crunchy and menacing anything Aphex Twin himself had released at the time. In sharp contrast, Side B’s 3 tracks are playful, clean and melodic instrumental synthpop, with clear synthetic references to bands like Depeche Mode and OMD. It was a sound that was certainly not in fashion at the time, and helped the EP stand out in 1996, for that very reason. Suction Records was launched in 1997 by Toronto artists Solvent and Lowfish - both producers attended high-school together in the ‘80s, and both were obsessed with synthesizers and electronic music. The synth pop sound of the ‘80s was in their blood, but in the ‘90s, both became absolute converts to the sound of Aphex Twin and other like-minded artists on labels like Warp, Rephlex and Skam. Discovering this “D’Arcangelo” EP in 1996 was a revelation for the pair, a marriage of their 2 favourite sounds, and was one of the key inspirations for starting Suction Records the following year… so it was a dream come true when D’Arcangelo agreed to allow Suction to reissue this long-out-of-print and sought-after EP. In respect to the original release - Rephlex CAT039 - we saved a matching catalog # for our reissue: This is suction039. The 12" is limited to 500 copies, with 150 copies on BLUE vinyl. Blue vinyl edition is available as a Suction-direct-order exclusive.
  14. I only recently discovered there are two albums worth of outtakes from Onclements and Lactavent. Both were leaked by Aleksi Perala himself around 1999 on his website (or p2p, not sure), so the quality is +-128vbr on the Lactavent Outtakes and 54kpbs on Onclements Outtakes. If you haven't checked it out, you should definitely dig this up! http://www.discogs.com/Ovuca-Onclements-Outtakes/release/447215 http://www.discogs.com/Ovuca-Lactavent-Outtakes/release/2084248 Anyway, I figured a thread on this to not forget these releases would be nice, so: what are your thoughts on this? Imo, the Lactavent Outtakes are way better than the actual album. Lot's of really oldschool warm braindance sounds instead of the chaotic raw Lactavent.

  17. Surprised there wasn't a thread about this one already. The guy running the label posted about this about a week ago on facebook but that post seems to be removed. If I remember correctly there was also a special edition of this wich you can only get via mail. The only thing I can find now is the RA article below. 18. These days we can find so many rephlex style Braindance labels. Even Rephlex affiliated artists are supporting some labels. You know, there are many good labels like WeMe records, CPU, Love Love. Let's talk about Braindance record labels.

    global goon

KAY SO HERES THE DEAL: i didn't see a thread for global goon and decided that was a huge fucking mistake. if it turns out i made a huge fucking mistake and there already was a thread, my apologies. ANYWHO, global goon is most definitely my favorite rephlex artist asides from afx. he is THE SHIT. every track he writes makes you like this . you've probably got the idea. his stuff after he left rephlex was/is less interesting, but the rephlex records. solid gold. SO I'M WONDERING "what's the love situation with global goon". who's wanting to answer? my favorite tracks are: everything on family glue everything on goon everything on cradle of history everything on vatican nitez thoughts? edit: reordered favorites by how much i enjoy their greatness
  20. This is available for preview/download on the new Rephlex site here. All four tracks are very cool... hopefully we'll see a hard copy release in the near future! (apologies in advance if this is jazz, but I can't find any threads re this release)
  21. Hi, through youtube I've managed to find someone who had a VHS of this TV show which is "hosted" by Grant of Rephlex, with some guests and generally just talking about the label. He got it digitalized and I just uploaded all parts now. The show was aired on a program called WahWah (which also did a Merzbow feature if I remember correctly) around 2001. Because I had to cut the commercials out, and because of cheap semi-working videosplit programs, there are 7 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA75UokCGl8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFvFcHPRdjo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu_Fus8tKTU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHs_TWeU9wc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpyy0nXX1wk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7sO2aD_F58 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7OfPMBYT58 Enjoy!
