  1. i'll start: how do you get the crispy crackley glitchy highs? EQ hasn't been able to get me there. or - how do ya get the glitchy pop noises that are ubiquitous the past 5 or so years? like i said, if i use high pass filters, linear phase or not, i tend to ruin the source. maybe pitching things up in the sampler? https://soundcloud.com/sofus/b1-kose-mix-chinese-swamp
  2. A short clip from some field recording i was doing today- cool sound, so i filmed it.
  3. Hello, I have a little something to share. http://www.causticephex.bandcamp.com/album/displaced https://soundcloud.com/causticephex/sets/displaced I appreciate the listen and I hope you enjoy. Caustic_Ephex

  5. New podcast: INTERRUPTIONS #16. On duration: silence is unavailable, please buy time or switch dimensions. Curated by Dave Phillips A mix that manages to cram in over three hundred tracks, opening with Napalm Death and closing with Hanatarash (both bold statements!), is obviously something more than just a collection of musical snippets. Simply stunning for its unapproachable character, the crudeness of its content and the brilliance of its execution, Dave Phillips' sonic jigsaw puzzle is a true assault on the senses that reflects on extreme durations in music and our relationship with the temporality of sound. 6. Is there a particular instrument or sound in songs that appeals to you? I was thinking about this recently, looking at some of the songs I really like and why I like them, and I noticed that a lot of them have a particular synth sound in them, and despite the variations, they all seem to appeal to me sonically and I end up liking those songs that have that sound in them more than others. In my case, (and forgive me if I am mistaken) it's songs that have some variation of the Rhodes Synthesizers in them - or at least a similar sound - whether used for the bassline, a droning tone in the background, etc. What's your favourite sound?
  7. So I had an idea. Me and some of my friends really like music and stuff. One of them will study music, but that's something else. The point of this thread is to seek suggestions and opinions about starting a sound design and composition service for (for now) amateur films, animations, publicity (we might add animation production too, and maybe video). The interesting thing here is that the 3 of us have 19 years old, and we're about to start university, but we need money and this idea sounds cool. We have the tools (computers, daws, vsts, piano and guitar), and the hability (in guitar, piano, creativity). What do you think? We might post some flyers around. We already have some music created (from our hobby) like a "look, here it is what we can do". Obviously we will create better stuff, but one thing I've learned is that people would pay lots for whoever makes the work they don't want to do. So, what do you think?
  8. Just went and experienced this today, it was awesome. I strongly recommend it to anyone who can go. It's a 98-speaker installation at the Park Ave Armory. About 1/2 hour long, it's a collage of story (narrator's speaker is through a gramophone at the center), sound, and music. There are a few chairs in the sweet spot of the speakers, but you're encouraged to wander around in the installation, which is in a big space (probably football field sized). I happened to be at the extreme right as a Russian marching choir materialized around me and swept through. Anyway, 98 B&W speakers suspended in a huge dark room is pretty IDM, as well as whatever technology they had to cook up to get them all to work so fantastically together. Go hear this before it's gone. http://www.armoryonpark.org/ http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/10/arts/design/art-review-the-murder-of-crows-at-park-avenue-armory.html?_r=3
