1. Artist : EXM Title: Modulus Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM36 Format: CD/Digital Country: U.K. Artwork: Style: IDM/Electronica Release Date 21.July.17 Well well well, if it isn’t exm again. This prolific artist has a multitude of self-released EPs under his belt and returns once more for his fourth contribution to Touched with music of fantastic quality. Each track piques your interest, every sound feels like it has a purpose and my are their lots of sounds. This release isn’t just generous in terms of style but at a shade under 90 minutes I don’t think anyone could complain that they weren’t being looked after. The opening of ’Modulus’ is sinister. ’3i2’ puts you on edge and alerts you to the presence of the next nines track lined up, a piece that wouldn’t sound out of place in the most epic of science fiction. Even the first sound’s pacing is so perfect I could loop it and be satisfied. But I don’t need to. Waiting for me is a barrage of noise all seemingly in its place and well thought out by the composer. Some of it is illusory - ’Wall’ has a pace that appears to increase whilst not actually doing so. If I didn’t have an anchor to the real world in the form of tapping feet I might certainly be lost. As a midpoint, ’5’ is a masterpiece - it’s an earworm. Its melody cohesive, at 9 minutes in length it still doesn’t feel long enough. And it’s a turning point too, the second half of ‘Modulus’ feels takes a robotic tone, like you’re stuck in an automated factory but you don’t really care about getting out, satisfied with the rhythmic beat of machines you are faced with. This is as good as any electronic music I’ve heard. It shows there are those out there who really care about their art, who want to push boundaries and challenge those who listen to it. I had previously compared exm to other great masters Autechre and their influence still shows however it feels more distant now. A place has been found by exm, he's carving out his niche and it's incredibly enjoyable. ‘Modulus’ is available as a limited run of CDs and as always a digital download (with bonus track ‘Meltt’) which is also provided to those who make a physical purchase from the Touched Bandcamp site. So show your support once more for Touched and get something great in return. Buy - https://touched.bandcamp.com/album/modulus
2. Murya's new album is out this Friday (27th September). It's the first release on Dyadik, a new label started by @Touched Music (Martin Boulton) and me (Grid Pattern). If you know Murya from his releases on Touched (Triplicity / Heimaey) you will love his new one, some have said it's his best yet. Martin is hosting a Mixlr launch party on Friday night (starting at 8pm UK time), kicking off with an hour long mix by Murya of his musical influences, followed by Northern Lights in full. We have made 150 CD copies featuring full colour artwork inspired by the album's title... gloss laminated 4 panel gatefold card sleeve with obi-strip printed on matt paper. These will go on sale straight after the launch party at the Dyadik bandcamp, digital will also be available. That's it folks, I really hope some of you can make it to the Mixlr. Teaser and some images of the CD below...
3. Hello there WATMM, I am pleased to announce the first of two very special compilations of Milieu trax, assembled exclusively for release at the excellent Touched Music label. The two-volume Sunbather's Pharmacopeia is designed to appeal to both longtime listeners, first-timers and the casual consumer in between, and this first volume focuses on material from the earlier phase of the Milieu sound - the slow tempos, detuned synthesizers and bittersweet melodies. As of right now, the release has only been announced via the Touched social media outlets, and there isn't anything on Bandcamp just yet. HOWEVER, a good amount of promo is being done, and some of it is the cool and interactive kind, so read on! To start, multiple videos have been made for some of the tracks on this collection, the first by Mr. Touched himself (and can only currently be viewed via the Touched Facebook page) and the second by Broken Machine Films (the in-house videographers at Illuminated Paths) which is soon to come. There may yet be more videos, but don't quote me because I'm not the one in charge of that department. Secondly, there will be a three-hour online event on the Touched Mixlr feed, on Friday July 26th, which consists of a DJ set from the talented Steve Brown (Combinations In Electronic Sound), a DJ set from myself (moonlighting as DJ Brian Damage) and then a screening of the Touched album. The link to the Touched Mixlr is here, and this will happen at 2PM Eastern Daylight time (7PM in the UK and 8PM in much of the rest of Europe). I will be hanging out in the chatroom at Mixlr to answer questions and shoot the breeze, likely with a couple shots of whiskey in my hand. If anyone here has attended the listening parties I did on Twitch for Sun Cast or Shallow Earth, this will be somewhat like that. And speaking of that last bit - depending on how the Mixlr show goes, and whether or not anyone there missed out, was late coming in, or still wants to listen to music and chat, I'll be willing to have an afterparty on my Twitch channel, where I might even break out the synths and drum machines and jam a bit, or play tracks, or whatever! Bedtime is relative in Milieu Land. Finally, I've answered some studio-related questions in an interview segment for Synthspotting (Twitter & Facebook) and given them a few badly lit photographs of what the studio looks like right now. I don't know when they will post their Milieu feature, but I will try to update this thread when it happens. So there you go - some cool Milieu-related things to look forward to soon. And definitely, if you can, check the DJ set out on Mixlr - it's not your usual DJ affair of just spinning records, but rather, more like an old hip-hop mixtape that takes loops from dozens of different tracks and uses them as building blocks for brand new grooves. I have done one previous DJ mix in this style and you can download that here. There also may or may not be a bootleg cassette containing both of the Brian Damage DJ sets coming out after the Touched release... More info posted here as it comes!

6. Artist : Attraktta Title: Massive Irretrievable Data Loss Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM49 Format: CD/Digital Country: U.K. Artwork: Geometric Love Style: Techno/IDM/Electronica Release Date: April 20th Description. I'm off to Tokyo next week and if there's one thing I always look forward to doing in the sprawling metropolis it's walking around, immersing myself in some right old future sounds and taking everything in. And that's what Touched Music is allowing my to do this May by releasing "Irretrievable Data Loss" by Attraktta. Sorry, did you say 'data loss'? Because what I believe I'm hearing is called 'data addition'. The only thing irretrievable here is the time I spent listening to this. I'm not getting it back and I don't care one bit as it was clearly time well spent. This is bold, this is hard, this isn't trying to be anything else. You will like it or it will come out of your heaphones and throttle you until you agree. Attraktta is the brainchild of Steve Hyland, He’s one of the founders of Ai Records before setting up Concrete Plastic in 2006 the experience gathered over the last nineteen years really shines through. The production is clean, it's solid and the sounds are dirty in all the right places. It's great that it's 2018 but putting tracks like this on can take me back a good fifteen to twenty years. Sometimes you can put your finger on it - reminders of Wildplanet, LFO's 'Advance' and the style championed by Boards of Canada (only churned up in a blender and beautifully twisted). Then again sometimes you can't and it's one of the reasons I put stuff on repeat in order to try and work out my own thoughts. "MlDL" opens the album well, pretty leftfield with a lovely ethereal backing. There's some great electro here too, both "Split The Line" and "Orientfield" make me wish I could robot dance. But only if I was 300ft tall and could wreck a couple of buildings at the same time. For me the stars of the show are "Find, Replace Again" and "Gal_Pos". The former is a rolling affair that won't allow my shoulders to stay still and the latter... well let's just say it's got that sideways kind of bass that will cause people to ask you to stop dancing. Well excuse me, try putting your phone away and having it large once in a while instead. Available as a limited run of 100 CDs or as a digital download from Touched Music, get it now and continue to support this fantastic cause.
7. Artist : Weldroid Title: End Of Mission Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM40 Format: CD/Digital CD limited to 100 Country: U.K. Artwork: Weldroid Style: IDM/Electronica Release Date 15.12.17 Description To say it’s been a rollercoaster of a year for Touched Music would be inaccurate, as rollercoasters for the most part go in all directions. Instead, Touched and its ever-growing roster of artists has only ascended to great new heights and it’s been great to have you along for the ride. If you did ever get on a rollercoaster that only ascended, forever and ever then you find yourself in space, which is exactly where the final release of 2017, by Weldroid (and pals) has come from. Just like the previous four seasons on Touched, ‘End Of Mission’ is a well-rounded offering that spans multiple styles and influences and ensures that you can end your year on a high note. Aptly-named, the whole thing sounds like a transmission, it’s the docking of a long-lost flight and its eventual return home, bringing with it stories to tell for generations to come. Tracks like “Darkside” really ram this home. Technical ability and craftsmanship is all over the place, particularly shining through in tracks like “Nowehere Never”, ominous in tone and leaving me feeling pleasantly uncomfortable, seemingly underpinned by a single vocal sample that’s pretty haunting. Played sequentially, “One More Death Shouldn’t Matter” and “Pillow Fight Wounds” are two tracks that are bit-crushingly bold with two-step rhythms and steady yet evolving melodies holding everything together, it’s nice that they feature the same collaborator, they sound like 2 halves of the same track. “Unbalanced” is a lovely moment of relaxation, the calm before the storm that is the final part, within which is contained the stand out moment of the album for me - ‘Free Spirit’. Those familiar with the 1989 Amiga/Atari ST Bitmap Brothers release “Xenon 2” will surely remember the fantastic soundtrack by ‘Bomb The Bass’. And that’s what this reminds me of - the noises, the rhythms, all the excitement of a thoroughly space-aged affair is there, but way more danceable and updated for the modern age. Judging by what the last twelve months on Touched has given us in terms of musical experience I can only assume that for 2018, in the words of Otis Clay (or Yazz if you want to feel slightly classier) - that the only way is up
8. Artist : Karsten Pflum Title: Love Canticles Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM37 Format: CD/Digital Country: U.K. Artwork: Hagar Faibish Style: IDM/Electronica Release Date Oct 24th Nov 2017 It's hard not to be biased when you get to listen to artists that you know and love but there's a reason you love them and this only adds fuel to the fire. Hot on the heels of the recent release from 'Ariande's Labyrinth', comes an offering from one of Touched Music's favorite artists, Karsten Pflum. 'Love Canticles' is a solid collection of squelch, rattle and drop - guaranteed to please our followers and make your feet tap. Kicking off with a dissonance that plays with your expectations of melody, the whole thing is solidified with a strong mix of conventional and broken rhythms. There are things you can't escape, notably the ethereal quality and a definite analogue feel that could easily be mistaken as Cornish in origin. Don't let this fool you however, this is the best of Danish through and through, although the keen- eared amongst you will hear the cat escaping the bag. Other nice touches include a peppering of vocoder, robotically enhancing certain tracks that already felt mechanical and industrious. Technical precision marks many of the tracks, 'I Am Ice' being a perfect example with ambience and crisp sounds aplenty, living up to its name. Not being satisfied with throwing a well-styled reworking into the mix to finish off the release, much- loved UK producer Ochre steps up and has offered his mastering & remixing skills to polish this great album. They're welcome bonuses that add to the already- delightful experience. Ochre's not the only remixer here, with contributions from Isan (Morr Music) & Humanoid (Aka Brain Dougans - One Half Of The Future Sound Of London) in the final stretch, the change is noticeable but well within the bounds of what Pflum has set out to do. All in all this is a spacious & thoughtful piece of work that carries on Karsten Pflum's tradition of style melding and refusing to sit in one box. It's great to know he's not going anywhere soon and even better to have him on the Touched roster. Support Touched - Music for Macmillan Cancer Support and get your copy from the 24th
9. Artist : Ariadne’s Labyrinth Title: Twists & Turns Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM66 Format: CD/Digital Country: U.K. Artwork: The Designers Republic Style: IDM/Electronica Release Date Oct 27th 2017 This is what nicely sums up the Touched label. After the surprise release of one of the biggest names in recent electronic music history, Autechre, it's equally humbling to be able to offer up talented, up and coming artists. It makes us realise that there are those out there just as impressive as the established masters. There's a place for everyone here and we welcome them with open arms. "Twists And Turns" is simply stunning. After an initial EP release earlier this year on Detroit Underground with 'Lost And Founded' and a contribution to Touched Music's summer mix that reappears here, 'Ariadne's Labyrinth' delivers a complex and intricate work that screams effort and talent. It opens boldly and doesn't screw around. Leads are in your face, breaks and rhythms delicately layered and nearly all of the tracks build up beautifully into crescendos that are deconstructed with equal majesty. With an almost leftfield feeling at times, I'm often reminded of 'Spokes' (the everlasting joy from Warp Record's Plaid) and the live tour that went along with it - twisted delays and assertive melodies guiding you from one track to the next. Most tracks could easily intertwine and the whole experience is both dance-worthy and contemplative with a rolling middle portion reminiscent of the best bits of the 'Dial P' mix rolled into one. This is both excitingly new and nostalgic. A skilled violinist and pianist, the training shines through with impeccably self-recorded & sampled violin scattered about the album. It bridges the electroacoustic gap while firmly staying loyal to electronica, neither raw or over-processed with a perfect level of usage. Similarly impressive is the use of scattered Amen-style breaks and confident kicks that underpin the whole thing. Although full of variety it never feels like it's searching for a purpose or trying too hard to fit in. I can relax or I can boogie, the choice is mine as the choice is there. From ambience to Klezmer and Jazz influences through a bevy of melodic electronica the whole thing ends perfectly with a relaxed piece that gives you a chance to contemplate what just happened. And albeit less secret and surprising as they used to be, it's lovely to be presented with a hidden track - my first listen was a pleasant revelation that my experience wasn't quite yet over. Be sure to expand your collection and grab a copy from Touched Music, as always proceeds will be going to the ever-deserving Macmillan Cancer Support! 26th 8PM Mixlr Preview Show http://mixlr.com/touched-music/ Buy Here - https://touched.bandcamp.com/album/twists-turns
10. It’s truly ridiculous how quickly the first half of the year has gone. But that’s a good thing, because Touched Music has more releases under its belt and I have to wait less time for good things - good things like the next instalment in the Touched catalogue, “FfAtP”. This is a joint effort between Touched’s instigator Martin Boulton, AKA Min-Y-Llan and all-round good guy Floating Spirits, with some excellent remixes thrown in to boot. Listening through for the first time you wouldn’t guess this is a split EP by any means. The tracks flow incredibly well and if these two artists were political parties they should definitely form a coalition. Seamless emulation of each other never gets in the way of their respective styles. For Min-Y-Llan this is quite the departure from the melodic and for the most part happy things we have come to expect. It’s dark, moody and suspicious with great use of spoken word samples. Floating Spirits offers big sounds that are layered to perfection - it’s foot-tappingly good. There’s rarely a quiet moment and even those always have something going on. As a bonus the release finishes off with a group of remixes from other Touched contributors, as always willing to lend a hand with the great cause that is Macmillan Cancer Support. BLN, Quadrable, John Callaghan, Stoobz, AtOm AnT and exm all contribute to the latter half of the album. Hailing from Romania, The UK, Germany, The USA and The Netherlands it’s a real international roster of artists putting their unique spin on what is already a great record. Considering their impressive release history on labels such as Warp Records, Antigen Records, Concrete Plastic, Alternate Media Tapes & Hymen (just to name a few), whether they’re newcomers or returning to Touched Music it’s great to have them on board and helping out. 11. Artist : Monoform Title: Mea Culpa Label: Touched Music Cat no: TM34 Format: CD/Digital CD limited to 100 Country: U.K. Artwork: David Watson gridpattern.co.uk Style: IDM/Electronica Release Date April 1st 2017 Description "Monoform’s contribution to Touched Music may be titled with an admission of guilt, but let me assure you he’s done no wrong with what he’s created here; quite the opposite. Ten very well mixed and balanced pieces make up ‘Mea Culpa’, and it’s truly a joy to listen to. ‘Introx’ has an ambience about it, misleadingly so as it’s not representative of the rest of the album. It blends well into ’Minor Detour’ which is just that; it’s a well-thought track that ups the pace before a lesser-temped ‘Cerebral’. I’m captivated by the next four pieces, it’s easy to sit back and hear them all as separate movements of the same concerto. These could easily have been labeled “Track Parts One Through Four” and I wouldn’t have thought any differently. A darker note is adopted for the penultimate track and finally we’re offered more of the same ambience that the whole thing kicked off with. It’s so well executed that you could just hit “Repeat All” and do it all again without a care in the world. One of the most enjoyable things about this album is its structure and flow, something that appears to be a defining feature of the music coming out on Touched. ‘Mea Culpa’ isn’t just good noise, it tells a story and lets you experience it. Maybe Monoform’s guilty conscience is down to the fact he stopped at ten tracks? In any case I’ll be happy to hear what’s up his sleeves for next time." https://soundcloud.com/touched-music/monoform-on-paper-wings The album has a full preview on Friday night on Touched mixlr - Touched Mixlr Touched Music Presents Monoform - Mea Culpa Album Launch https://www.facebook.com/events/270944733351183/
12. The Final Touched Music Release Of The 2016. Mick Chillage - Sky Gazing Released 1.12.2016 Teaser - What Touched music say about "Sky Gazing" “If the last twelve months have left you feeling a bit confused with all the political madness both sides of the pond, there’s one things that’s necessary in order to help you through it all. That’s right, the steady and constant truth that is Touched Music. It’s not all doom & gloom, oh no. This year saw the label hit £50,000 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and to help us continue forth the latest and final release of 2016 comes from Dublin’s very own Mick Chillage. “Sky Gazing” is worthy of repeat audition, doing so will allow you to scrape away at the upper layer of staple chill, ambient & downtempo beats, revealing new beauty which appears each time round. The EP opens with a feeling truly like ‘Ageispolis meets Cocteau Twins and almost fooling you into thinking this is going to be a simple affair. What follows is remarkable work, including a thirteen-minute rendition you could really watch the clouds to, rolling undertones paired with moody, low acid-squelches, lovely hi-hats, and even a funky & trippy penultimate piece in the form of ‘Fusion Intrusion’. The final track really feels final and demonstrates how fantastically produced the whole thing is. All the tracks manage to emulate each other but no two truly sound the same, establishing a real flow that will draw you in and put this one straight onto repeat."
13. EP Released 25th Feb Let's face it. February's a bit rubbish - and let me stop you before you try to convince me that Valentine's day is a shining light in an otherwise dark and miserable month. But one thing can save us and that's Touched Music's love for us all. Slapping us in the face with the musical equivalent of a dozen red roses is the latest release from exm - "Overscore". It's hard to put a finger on exm's style and that's just how I like it - this EP refuses to sit in any stylistic pigeonhole and draws from a lot of technical skills and influences. I've said it before about the similarities to Autechre and that's still present but there's so much more going on here. The first track alone is a journey in itself - starting with sound reminiscent of Hans Zimmer's depiciton of vast, open, astronomical nothingness but better it gives way to a rhythmic party that can only be described as a sentient electronic hurdy-gurdy with poor intentions against humankind. Finishing with a digital call to prayer this is just the opening of a fantastic six-track EP. Sudden key changes, great timbral layering and pleasing dissonance are the icing on the proverbial cake. This work manages to relax and unnerve at the same time and doesn't tire for one second. As a bonus we're treated to a remix that's so well done it's neither so similar to its parent nor a complete departure - back-to-back they sound like they could have been composed together as separate acts. Do the right thing, winter's nearly over so why not let this latest festival of noise into your life and help Macmillan Cancer Support along the way? Wise words from Alexander Shum
