  1. new Kelela track just dropped, Washed Away. mostly chill, gets a bit tense as it goes. she mentions on Insta that ‘bangers are on the way’ so this as a first new track in years is maybe odd, but it’s nice so i’m not complaining. album title not clear yet

  8. Will there be anything for Warp30? I haven't read / heard anything really. In particular after the big event of Warp20 - with the Fan Selection and stuff - it's so awfully quiet on the Warp front. Any insights apart from maybe a few gigs?
  9. As 2019 approaches, the realisation that close to 10 years has passed since Warp20 is... quite a sobering thought. I remember Warp20 being quite the celebration by Warp; a massive and lavish box set was released with some special treats (Autechre - Oval Moon (IBC Mix), wew), plenty of live shows (including a memorable night at Sheffield's Magna - that Squarepusher set remains etched in my mind to this day), screenings at Park Hill Flats and the pop-up Warp shop... everything related to Warp20 just had a good vibe to it. Warp30 approaches. Will we see as much fervour and exaitment as Warp20? I'd like to think Warp will want to go large again, in one way or another. In the meantime, consider this a nostalgia thread if nothing else. I'll pull some old related pics and stuff from the archive, if only to have a little corner of watmm dedicated to some good ol' Warpy times. Feel free to do likewise! In that spirit, here's an old pinch of mine from 2009 - it was screened the Friday before the main weekend celebrations in Sheffield (I think I've seen a similar rip surface on youtube before, but in worse quality) Artwork

  13. https://bleep.com/release/89708-bibio-phantom-brickworks “I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe places can be haunted by meaning. Places change, not always for the better and not always by natural, benevolent or politically sound means. A place can be charged with atmosphere because of what it has been through or what it has been. Phantom Brickworks is a collection of mostly improvised musical pieces, that for some years now, have provided me with a mental portal into places and times - some real, some imaginary, some a combination of both. Human beings are highly sensitive to the atmospheres of places, which can be enhanced or dramatically altered when you learn the context of their history. Echoes and voices can sometimes be heard, in some way or another. Places sometimes have things to say.”
  14. Kelly Moran - Ultraviolet Warp Records WARP297 1st November 2018 1 Autowave 3:09 2 Helix 8:48 3 Water Music 6:29 4 Nereid 10:07 5 In Parallel 6:20 6 Halogen 7:15 7 Radian 2:50 "Ultraviolet is the first Warp album from New York-based composer, producer and keyboardist Kelly Moran, ripe with dazzling inflexions of jazz and dream pop, classical composition and black metal. Ultraviolet transforms her wealth of inspirations into a sound all her own, seemingly pulling off a nearly impossible feat: the annihilation of experimental music’s imposing, esoteric, über-academic status quo in the name of pure, unbridled intuition, of human joy, in her own words “By re-examining my process as an artist, I freed myself.” While those familiar with Kelly Moran's music were most likely caught in the web she spun on her 2017 album Bloodroot, Ultraviolet builds upon her perfectly crafted and innovative use of piano and electroacoustic instruments, purpose-built by Moran herself. Having made an early name for herself in New York collaborating with dance performance and composing for long-term John Cage collaborator Margaret Leng Tan, while recent months have seen her perform in prestigious venues around the world as part of Oneohtrix Point Never’s live Age Of tour ensemble. For those prepared to dive beneath the surface and explore her sound world, Kelly Moran's music is operating within its entirely own microcosm, one that when experienced in full makes that her signing to Warp feels like a perfect match."
  15. So, as spammed over here, the Plaid boys will be debuting their first full collaborative live set with Coppé at this year's 23rpm Festival next Saturday (6th October) in London. Something a bit different for them for sure. Coppé has guest-appeared at one or two of their gigs over the years, but never a whole set together focusing just on their collaborative material until now. Coppé has something of a cult following scattered thinly all over the world (partly thanks to her splitting her time between Japan and the US over the last 20 years). This is something I've been helping her build on in the UK since 2011, and this year we thought it worth giving 20 years of her most prolific collaborations a shout out. Since 1998, Coppé has regularly recorded and released original collaborations and remixes with Plaid, with around a dozen tracks now between them. There's talk of a whole collaborations album harvesting these together + brand new tracks especially for it. It was something of a surprise to Andy & Ed as well when we all sat down and looked at just how much work they've actually done together with her over the years. So, thought it worth marking the occasion here with a ganders at some of their tunes together... This was originally produced by Kettel in 2005, but later remixed by Plaid in 2007 and kinda became the staple-version for Coppé's live set (and her 2013 'best of' sampler). One of their earliest full collaborations from 98's 'Peppermint' album, and still my personal fave. Been itching to hear this live for years now! This one just sums up everything that Plaid do beautifully for me. '45 degrees' (from Coppé's 20th anniversary album '20rpm' - 2015) with Plaid at their most "clean", sparse, crisp and minimal. Another Plaid remix that took the minimal original and became the defining version. I know I'm bias... but, can't wait for the set :)
