  1. Boards of Canada have their entire digital catalogue on sale on Bandcamp - 25% off: https://boardsofcanada.bandcamp.com/album/the-campfire-headphase?from=fanpub_bfd#buyFullDiscography

  4. BOC repeatedly mentioned that sometimes they compose melodies or enture tracks using the Fibonacci sequence or fractals or other mathematical frameworks. I've been researching for some examples on this in their music but couldn't find anything yet. I know that some tracks / albums follow a very symmetric design, i.e. a palindrome. But in regards to Fibonacci and fractals I can't it in their music. Can you name a few examples?
  5. The copy which surfaced in Rough Trade East is up for sale (and before anyone asks - no, I'm not the seller) "Boards of Canada 2013 RSD secret giveaway promo 12" (1 of 6? only 2 known to have surfaced) After our recent move from London to Bristol we decided it was a good time to list this, We're selling this now as we have enjoyed owning it this past year but would like to use the sale to purchase some more records and expand our collection, my girlfriend picked this up from Rough Trade East in London when passing...she went to grab a coffee, flicked through the racks and picked this up. She knew of Boards of Canada but not of this releases significance, It was only once purchased that the staff let her know what it was and had been happening! the staff played this over their system (it's only play!) and took her picture. It was only once she showed me this at home and goggling that we got to learn of the whole intrigue / buzz that this had started to create. It was great to be apart of but we'd now like to pass on this legacy to the next custodian! This is a no reserve auction for what I would now consider to be one of WARP's rarest releases to date and possibly "Electronica's" rarest release in recent memory. I guess this is only the 2nd known copy to be listed for sale with 1 sold on ebay last year. This physical pressing is only less than minutes (spans side a) worth of music / sound / coding / passkey what ever you want to call it but it has it's place in setting BOC's fans and music fans worldwide into a frenzy...a true one off."

  9. By now we all probly have a copy of this but a new recording from DAT on 180g is a welcome reissue imo: https://bleep.com/release/5213-boards-of-canada-hi-scores
  10. Michael Fakesch's 1999 album 'Marion 'was recently reissued by Bit-Phalanx in a deluxe double cassette/digital edition! It includes unreleased tracks as well as the 3 Demon EPs which have never been officially digitally available until now! BoC fans take note as their remix has only been available as a low quality vinyl rip previously: Purchase it here: https://bitphalanx.bandcamp.com/album/marion-20th-anniversary-edition Some tracks included:
  11. Bleep has Boards of Canada shirts back in stock: https://bleep.com/merch/203
  12. In celebration of 21 years since the release of Music Has The Right To Children, there will be a mobile listening party in Peebles Island State Park in Waterford, New York, USA, on Saturday, April 20, 2019. See the attached image for details.
  13. Also mentioned in the vinyl reissues thread, but important enough to repeat here - BOC's 1996 classic on Skam Records, Hi Scores, is available again on vinyl, CD and digital download via Bleep.com: https://bleep.com/release/5213-boards-of-canada-hi-scores If you don't already own this release, it is a MUST HAVE for any BOC/classic electronic music fan.
  14. Odd Nosdam uploaded all the instrumentals for the cLOUDDEAD LP 'Ten' onto YouTube, including the BoC Remix instrumental! Amazing how much was buried by the vocals! So far as I can tell this can only be found on YouTube for the time being, and who knows how long it'll stay up:
  15. 20 years young. I remember discovering MHTRTC (and Boards of Canada) through a tiny album review in the NME of all places, the week before release back in April 1998. It described an album awash with pleasing melodies and nostalgic childhood sounds, like it had sampled dated old science/nature documentaries you might have watched at school. A few days later I was in town, and found myself in one of my favourite indie record shops at the time (Imperial Records RIP). They had the CD hooked up to the number 1 spot on the listening post (remember those?) which was their way of saying 'best record of the week'. I must have enjoyed it right away, as I still have my CD copy from release week with the price sticker on it. I since picked up vinyl copies (including the promo above, for pennies in a secondhand rack), and have been along for the ride with BoC for the past 20 years. I am cast on a sea of my own personal nostalgia whenever I play it, yet it still sounds fresh and timeless to this day. I'm interested to hear how others came to discover this weird and wonderful album, and what it means to them now.
  16. Stumbled across an article from 2013 on the National Film Board of Canada's blog about Boards of Canada: https://blog.nfb.ca/blog/2013/09/23/music-has-the-right-to-children-sound/
  17. Hiya, Frequent lurker and former Braindance mod here. Thought this worth a shout here. I know it's a bit of a spammy start, but... c'mon... pretty chuffed with this line-up, if we do say so ourselves. So just keen to share the love as we're just a couple of independent entities who've clawed our way up to putting on events like this. So yeah... Cheers all. _____ Mango + Sweetrice Records & Bit-Phalanx Music present: 23rpm : An all-day Electronic Music Festival. 18. So what do you think? If you're familiar with Christ.'s music, how do you rate it compared to BoC's? In my view, he's really, really good. I don't know how much he was involved in the band - was he really one third for several years, or just one of the many associates. I think his influence is present on Twoism a lot - it's a very unusual record for them, as if he was partially the reason to leave the record minimal, without happy swirly synths and children voices. Quite similar to an early track by Christ. - Moxley Moy - kind of mood. On Campfire, Slow This Bird Down uses darker synths, like those on Christ.'s Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle. Personally, I prefer the latter to Campfire - it's a very detailed and dark record. And last, if you've read carefully the Matador bio, you know about the movie with the electrical pylons(my guess is that's where the 'annoying' Music for Pylons track belongs). Christ. has an EP called Pylonesque with a beautiful image of such pylons on the cover.(the EP is gorgeous as well) It's obvious Christ. and the boards were close, just wondering why they parted ways. I can only imagine how much he could contribute to their music.

  20. It would seem that this was just set up: https://skam.bandcamp.com/ If this is legit it's a pretty big deal; an official vendor to purchase all these formerly vinyl-only tracks. It's strange though, listening to the previews it would appear that some are obviously vinyl rips, such as MASK 100: [bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=2284040868 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small] But then the preview for MASK 200 sounds totally clear... Clearer than ever, like it is driect from the DAT: [bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1312612526 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small] Thoughts?
  21. I was at the Eaux Claires fest in Wisconsin and was lucky enough to witness the classical ensemble "Stargaze" perform the entire Hi Scores EP. It was transcendent. I didn't even know it was going to happen! I was there to see Paul Simon, Danny Brown and Mouse on Mars. I had to take a couple short videos to prove to myself later that it was real. I wish i had recorded the whole performance but i was overwhelmed with emotion and mostly had to keep my eyes shut to take it in. It was such a loving recreation of the tracks that i couldn't imagine it being any more perfect. 22. Has this been pointed out before? Crazy I was torn between which subforum to post to but this ones always dead so hi
  23. Can you identify the 30 selected songs? http://bocpages.org/wiki/Snippet_Contest Credit to Cupz for the co-op on this one! The solution and some fun insights will be shared 22nd of March 2017. PS: Yes I've shared this contest before, April 2016, but I never shared the solution and didn't have a page up on bocpages etc. I'd also would like to have a bit more entries.
