  1. "1991 is the alias of Gothenburg based artist Axel Backman, whose, giddying, lo-fi electronic output has been garnering support from the likes of Samoyed, Lukid and Vessel – indeed Vessel also mastered this E.P. Opening with the stuttered, hypnagogic mood of 'Recorn Ice Horn', the effervescent glow of Bibio and Boards of Canada lingers in the swell of detuned synths; making way for the equally colourful 'Fabric of Space'. Mentioned earlier, 'Open To The Dark' makes a whimsical 'pop' twist with distant vocals set in plates of almost OPN / Schulze-like ambience. Comforting nostalgia can be heard in tracks like 'Distortion Of Time' and the more introspective 'Where Do I Hide From Myself', making for a hugely impressive debut composed of rich analogue laments enriched by lo-fi methods and tape distortion." https://bleep.com/re...991#description http://boomkat.com/d...ive-bonus-track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHrdFAqeLQE
  2. listened to this a couple times now, diverse and rich album, hits on a lot of moods and gets a bit towards the experimental at times without ever losing ground. good grooves and good tunes. https://zabtesote.bandcamp.com/album/pend

  4. just happened across this YT channel that's basically just a trove of tape rips (mostly it seems at least) of DJ sets. clicked on a few and listening to this FSOL one right now: and starting this Carl Cox mix right now it sounds wild: [edit: that bassline that comes in at 22:11 is so goddamned dirty. so many awesome synth lines all throughout this thing tho fuckin hell] anyway i imagine a lot of this is available elsewhere but i'm guessing there's definitely some in here that isn't. maybe dig and share some gems. seemed maybe worth its own topic for sharing ones from this channel and similar era rarities stuff in the same vein...archive.org probably has some up there as well.

A small number of t-shirts are available for purchase too. 6. Bodyverse - I Could Go Lucid https://lontanoseries.bandcamp.com/album/i-could-go-lucid ‘I Could Go Lucid’ is about an instant of awareness in which I realise I could have the chance to create an astonishing reality, if only I could keep consciousness while dreaming, for more than an ephemeral moment. Lucid dreams mean to me a chance to create perfection as I feel they release the power of imagination in its whole potential. Imagination becomes matter to interact with. It’s the brain’ s virtual reality, the off limits oneiric one. As well as in dreams, also in the in musical creative process I perceive a certain amount of surreal content, and it too links with imagination and with the act of materialising ideas. For this reason I am currently experimenting through improvisation, in a journey between surrealism, expressionism and situationist drift. I try to let ideas flow, so my will subordinates to accidents and emotions. I become an explorer or a traveller with an uncertain destination. This atmosphere has resulted in a creation of six pieces in which the priority is simply to keep the integrity of the original idea itself. Nothing has been planned nor post-produced. This is involuntary music.

Anyone check out Opal Tapes? Considering getting one of their newer releases. http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/
  9. Has anyone posted this? Tom Middleton shared a photo on Instagram of one of his collection of old cassettes from Richard. Couple of interesting nuggets there... “?Found this 1989? tape Richard @instaphex handmade/handwrote for me, 2nd tape of 10+(?!) in my AFX tape archives. Predating Analogue Bubblebath on Mighty Force Records, Surfing On Sinewaves on @warprecords, Didgeridoo on @randsrecords and SAW1 on @apollorecords Some interesting tracks and versions I don’t remember being released? ...what do you make of those track id’s? Wonder what the insurance value on this would be?!? Starts with one of my all time favourites #Xtal!”

  11. I've been working on this album for 4 years, and it's finally ready! The album has been inspired by coming of age, exploring nature, dealing with mental health issues & alienation, transitioning as gender non-binary, and having a kid. Here's the bandcamp link: https://sephamusic.bandcamp.com/album/i-fell-into-the-unknown There's CDs & handmade tapes, and it's out on October 15th! PS, let me know if you need a free download link for any reason, I'll be happy to provide.
  12. Around 2008 I got 1500 blank TDK type II bulk cassettes for free from a guy who used to run a local punk label in the 90s, and every couple years I'll do a little 30-40 tape DIY release for fun. I like the sound of cassette and record on them pretty regularly but I don't really listen to them and haven't followed the whole revival that closely to be honest, so I didn't realize until just a week ago that apparently type II cassettes aren't being made anymore and modern cassette decks don't even have Dolby B. I've been doing all of my DIY releases on Type II with Dolby and they sound great (the tapes I mean, I'll leave it up to others to decide if the music sounds good), a few people have commented on how much better they sound than the average modern cassette release, but now that I know type II cassettes are kind of a limited resource, is it stupid to use them for releases? Should I just hoard hem for my own use in the old Portastudio? Doing type I releases would actually cost a lot more money because I'd have to buy tapes, as it is now I can release stuff for around $1.25 per tape (for boxes, glossy photo paper, and printer ink). I've got between 600 and 7l00 banks left, maybe 100 C-60s, 200-300 C-40s, and the rest are C-20. I know at least a couple people on here are in to the modern cassette scene, do you think that fidelity is something to worry about (beyond the base line of dubbing stuff on a decent machine at the right levels) or am I just pissing in the wind?
  13. Hello everyone, I've recently opened a new label, Psøma Psi Phi, which is a beatless sister to my braindance/techno imprint Recycled Plastics. It follows the same pricing template as RP, which is name-your-price digital releases (abridged) and limited edition physical releases (unabridged). I'm pleased to announce our first cassette, TTMSubtree by Noyzelab (aka NYZ/Bryen Telko/David Burraston), which is also the first in a subcatalog devoted completely to issuing only works by Burraston. It is limited to 34 black cassettes, and is in a similar sonic vein as his recent DRN4 cassette. For those unfamiliar with David's work, it will definitely appeal to fans of minimal electronics, things like Eliane Radigue, Richard Chartier, Eleh, some of Mika Vainio's stuff, etc. https://pspsph.bandcamp.com More music forthcoming from Burraston, as well as Arjen Schat, Peter Wright, Yorkshire Modular Society, Media Them, Solitary Nature, Kazuya Ishigami and myself, plus others. Demos can be sent to: Ps/Ps/Ph PO Box 292463 Kettering OH 45429. http://www.psoma.space http://www.facebook.com/000bpm
  14. Arthur Dent and Deeper Than Space - Drift. Bonding Tapes has teamed up with Silent Records on the Re-Issue of the ambient classic Drift. by Arthur Dent and Deeper Than Space. Originally released on CD in 1995, Drift. is a collection of rumbling processed droning electronics and slow moving dronescapes which can implicitly be connected to concepts developed by the Deleuzian’s philosophical perspectivism. Drift. is now available for the first time on limited edition cassette. Digital Available on iTunes

  23. When I was 13-14, I used to make instrumental industrial rock/metal on a 4 track cassette recorder. My main instruments were the Yamaha PSS 680 Music Station (keyboard) and my guitar/fx pedals. This project was called Machine. I recently digitized these tapes (along with everything else I ever recorded before going digital), and found that I still really liked most of it. So I decided to master a few of my favorites from this collection and release them as an album. 13 year old me would be very happy. Put 0 as the amount for a free download: https://machine1994.bandcamp.com/releases
