Someone asked what will be the first track of Elseq with its own thread. I’d like to propose Latentcall. Why? It’s almost 15 mins of glory. I think that if his track was on say, Exai, we would write poems about it. People would cherish its monstrosity, length, grooviness, lush pads and shifting nature. Some could call it even the next Surripere. Latentcall starts as a regular post-Exai track. It has a great rhythm to which heads constantly boob, and it has flickering melody with pads of Exai provenience. It's all pleasantly engaging. At over 6 min mark things start to change. The rhythm collapses. The beats are slowly dying. Pads and keys take lead. The machine is falling asleep. Mood sombers and gets melancholic. The melody - wait a minute, is there even a melody there? It seems so, but it’s really discrete and not immediately obvious. The pads become less artificial. They sound like even being played by a human. Technology however, is never too far away. Around 11 mins , simple beat comes in. The machine has returned. The rhythm has been reborn. At this point, the track gets ecstatic. Beat covered in deep reverb drags melody into itself. The beat has this wobbly feel that I loved so much on Irlie get 0. Finally, both beat and melody slowly merge loosing its intensity and becoming more distant. The machine let it go and it starts to dissolve and melts away into darkness. At the end, there is nothing. Only thing that remains is silence. A true masterpiece! Thank you AE
  2. In the merchandise section of the AE_STORE website, one of the items they had for sale (before it sold out) was a screen print based on the artwork for elseq. Here is the blurb, emphasis in boldface mine: "AS PART OF TDR™'S 30 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS THEY HAVE PRODUCED A VERY LIMITED EDITION TDR™ elseq 1 – 21 PRINT, WHICH COMPILES ALL OF THE TDR™ DESIGNED BUNDLE AND TRACK ARTWORK FOR THE DIGITAL RELEASES, UNAVAILABLE AS A COMPLETE SET ELSEWHERE." https://autechre.bleepstores.com/merch/74580-the-designers-republic-ae-elseq-1-21-tdr-86-16 This seems to suggest that there may be future installments of elseq ahead! Perhaps some of the sounds we've been hearing in the live sets of their one-six tour!
  3. alright, of all the amazing tracks that form elseq into what has already become one of my favourite ae-"major records" this is the one i keep obsessing about most constantly so far. so i hereby declare this to be its tribute thread. combining technically impressive macro-/microstructuring and execution with a gripping emotional immediacy this is ae coming full circle, eclectic yet unheard of. characteristic gearing up shenanigans, awakening of colossus, breaking fourth wall via paraphrasation of classic rave riff escalating til collapse unto itself taking track/beast along -> reconfiguration, finally:motion. from around 2 min inteferences gradually complicate the beat work til it's resembling spazz hop of draft fame (2nd half surripere anyone?), then finally 3:30 things settle down into ... *drum roll* TEH TUNE! well, what is it about THE TUNE exactly? i can't really put it into words. is it the meditative presentation of various states of decay - ebbing and flowing, the sparse but all the more felicitous tone, the brittle yet epic figure, its somewhat cheerless/greyish but steadfast temper, the deeply personal/intimate yet all-encompassing/vast athmosphere? or just the god damn catchiness? whatever the je ne sais quoi of THE TUNE, it is MINE! this shit is shaking me on a/the level like crazy deep i dun even know. it's got a retro-futuristic vibe fo sho (fucking ANCIENT even) but without the usual snugly bathetic connotations... just perfect. wuv <3 your turn.
