Couldn't find this being mentioned here before, but apparently Sote's most recent work has been released on Opal Tapes this summer. https://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/album/sote-hardcore-sounds-from-tehran I like how the A-side lines up nicely with his previous albums, but then the B-side catches you completely offguard using the same sound-palette, but used for "straightforward" vicious hardcore. I cannot emphasize the quotation marks around """"straightforward"""" enough.

Happy 111111 indeed! On this particular day we're excited to just travel in time and rave like its 1992! The Courier debuts on UPITUP with "Got the Vibes"! please download for FREE here! The Courier skillfully resurrects the sound and atmosphere of early UK Hardcore Rave, with hard hitting drumloops, funky basslines, bona fide rave pianos and RnB vocal snippets its got what it takes to warp you to a secret warehouse location! Drop a garry and party for two days!

I just listened to an old mixtape and it made me want to geek out and talk with some other dnb hedz out there about the good old days. I'm sure there will be some debate as to when it is specifically, but to me it will always be 1993-1996. 93 was the year jungle really broke from hardcore and became its own animal. 1994 seemed like the year the producers wanted to push it as far as it would go with the crazy rinses (a la Suburban Base). That seemed to last throughout 1995. In 1996 it was all about jump-up and hardstep. Darkstep was new and wasn't the two step leviathan it is today. Around 1997 it became a bit too hyped and although there was still tons of dope shit coming out, it seemed like more and more of the rollers were intended to be ready-made pop anthems instead of ass-shaking ammunition. Thoughts? Tacks? Labels? Lets talk.
