  4. Bought a second hand cassette deck recently and been ripping some old cassette's to mp3 for my mixcloud account. From mixtapes I bought in my local record store to radio show recordings, mostly 90's hip hop; Listen to more here; https://www.mixcloud.com/plugexpert/
  5. This is really great. Different to BADBADNOTGOODs usual style, 70s soul, recent NY soul revival kind of style, with a hint of library music in there too. Out on Lex on the 23rd.

    J Dilla sampling BoC?

I was listening to this track by Dilla off the Ruff Draft EP today and the hook/riff (kicks in at 0:33) really reminded me of either a BoC or Autechre track.. I was wondering if anyone else thinks the same, or if they can identify the sample? Sort of reminds me of I Will Get It Tattooed by BoC but I dont think that is it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjsXELHVu44

  9. I was surprised to not see a thread for this: perhaps that's why I hadn't heard about the release 'til a few days ago, though it's been out for nearly a month. I'm honestly not sure how many folks on wattumz are into this sort of stuff, but there's a few at least so yeah. https://paydromartinez.bandcamp.com/album/zuu This one seems slightly less chop/cut than the last, but is equally off-center and sample heavy. Only listened through once, but it's solid.
  10. Hey all, I'm excited to share my first EP, "Grandma Tapes" with you all. You can listen here: http://inkjetmusic.com/Grandma-Tapes Grandma Tapes is made out of samples from my grandmother's collection of classical cassettes. Everything on the record is a sample, including the drum sounds. And all of it was created/arranged/mixed entirely on the Elektron Octatrack (with a little extra reverb at the very end). There were 3 strict rules I set out for the project - if you're curious, I go into them in detail in the link above. More fun than rules: I also made a music video for the first track out of found ballet footage. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxGiiWnFM0Q You can also listen over at http://soundcloud.com/ink-jet Interested to hear what you all think. Thanks for listening.
  11. Hi all, I'm new here, but I've been into IDM for about 15 years. I'm dropping a new album soon , a combination of IDM and hip-hop. 17 tracks and over 30 guest artists, including: Funki Porcini (Ninja Tune), Tobias Schmidt (Tresor), Raoul Sinier (Planet Mu), Fizzarum, Xploding Plastix, Will White from The Propellerheads, Matt Elliott, Animals On Wheels, Legion Of Green Men, Baby Bam (The Jungle Brothers) and many more. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks for your time, Kuba / Deft https://soundcloud.com/section-27/deft-aphid-a-bag-of-tricks
  12. Since 2008 there is a torrent floating around featuring tons of mid 90's hip hop filled Dutch radio shows (http://kuiken.co/search/dutch%20mastaz/0/99/0), today I've uploaded the content of this torrent to mixcloud for ease of streaming, listening.. ..although there is the obvious Dutch chatter in between tracks, freestyles and what not, there is still enough gold to wade through for non-Dutchies imo :) Check all the collected Dutch Mastaz shows from the torrent here: http://www.mixcloud.com/plugexpert/ Big respect to Solo11 for recording and digitizing all his cassette tapes & theboombap.nl for sharing the .torrent! (read more about the origins here: Read this (Dutch): http://www.theboombap.nl/theBoards/read.php?1,1205439)) Random example show:
  13. Hey gents! I run a hip-hop/electronica/down-tempo radio show at my college radio station (third semester runnin!) and I'm looking for submissions from talented folks like you. Yes you, ya filthy animal. I had a thread in December for my last show of 2011 and got some really awesome tunes (plus nice feedback from listeners) and I want to continue that into my final semester here at Mizzou. So for this thread, I will be running it throughout the semester and will basically keep it as a tune bank, that way it gives you plenty of time to submit a track and it gives me a chance to play what you've submitted. Need some extra exposure? This will definitely give you that opportunity. Have an EP/LP in the works? I can help promote it. Want to be jbc and have your works played over the midwestern plains of columbia? Submit that shit here. The primary focus of the show is to get independent artists out on to the airwaves as well as playing some throwbacks and some mainstream music. If you have any works that you'd like to submit, I will gladly take a look at it and see if I can fit into my rotation. I really really enjoy exposing independent artists plus I love hearing music from the nooks n crannies on the nets. If you've already submitted tunes in my last thread and I played them for my last show, then don't worry about re-submitting as I already have the files saved. However, if you did submit and I didn't get to play it, then you can re-submit them here and I'll give it another looksy. Also as an aside, I am currently the Hip-Hop director at kcou so if you have some decent beats, then definitely shoot me up with a PM or e-mail me at [email protected] If I like what I hear, I can put it into KCOU's library and it will be there for a long long time. Plus it will be in the Hip-Hop rotation library, meaning that it can be played on rotation shows or when there are no specialty DJ's in the studio. If you know someone else with chill beats, have them contact me and I will definitely check em out. Also also, I can schedule a phone interview with you during my show if I really like your stuff. Have questions, hit me up. *Guidelines for submission* 1. Submit a track in either this thread or via PM (mp3 is preferred) 2. You can provide a brief background of yourself or the music if you wish 3. There is no limit on submissions 4. It can have cussing and swear words, just needs to fit the boundaries of expressive material 5. If you have a website for your music, let me know 7. If you are unsure if your music fits in the genres, submit it anyways and I'll let ya know! 8. Tracks can be submitted at any time throughout the semester 11. Profit Showtime: Every Saturday from 10pm to Midnight Stream the show at http://kcou.fm The time is in CST, so adjust accordingly Le fachebook page. Check it, like it, bop it, twist it, pull it - http://www.facebook....135410776569898 Check out my last show of 2011 featuring many artists from teh wattums - http://soundcloud.com/deltatones/the-dustbowl-last-show-of-2011 Thank you, jah bless Joe Dust

  16. Just kind of stumbled upon this today while looking at the stonesthrow site. Never heard of it before. There is so much interesting music coming out that it's hard to stay caught up. Quakers - Quakers Samples on the stonesthrow page: http://stonesthrow.c...quakers/quakers From http://stonesthrow.com/quakers : "Release date: March 27, 2012 Quakers is a hip-hop collective boasting 35 members which orbits around a core of three producers: Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst. Fuzzface is better known as Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, a long-time Stones Throw supporter in touch with Peanut Butter Wolf since championing the Jaylib album back in 2004. 7-Stu-7 is Portishead’s engineer and in-house producer at Invada Records in the UK. Katalyst is one of the most respected producers in Australia and a partner in Invada Records. Disillusioned with much of the hip-hop around them, the like-minded producers set out to create the type of rap record they’d want to listen to. That meant gathering one of the most varied arrays of talent ever seen on a hip-hop record. Rather than just sending beats to the hottest names of the moment, the producers sought out genuine collaborators, regardless of whether they were legendary or simply stumbled upon around the world wide web. Invitations were sent out to golden era legends such as Prince Po and The Pharcyde’s Booty Brown, indie rap titans such as Dead Prez and Phat Kat, and of course some of StonesThrow’s finest: Aloe Blacc, Guilty Simpson, MED and newest signings Jonwayne and Dave Dub all make memorable contributions. There are also some lesser known talents present: band-favorite Coin Locker Kid, Lyric Jones, Estee Nack & more hold it down with their more celebrated peers. Yet for all the vocal talent, it’s often Quakers’ stellar production that takes center stage, tying together the albums 40+ tracks into a cohesive whole. Heavy beats come thick and fast, from the horn-heavy stomp of “Fitta Happier” to the devastating synthesizer abuse of “Belly of the Beast” and beyond. Quakers music first appeared in Banksy’s 2011 film Exit Through The Gift Shop and, in case you’re wondering, the name comes from ‘earthquake’. They’re here to shake the foundations. "

  18. Just curious what WATMM's demographic thinks. If you're having a hard time deciding, try listening through Ready 2 Die, Life After Death, 2Pacalypse Now, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z, Thug Life: Volume 1, Me Against The World, All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. If you think neither of them was the greatest and someone else was better, please motivate your response.

http://soundcloud.com/jamesworks/round-one i challenged a friend of mine to a beat-off. decided not to use any samples for the melody, just the blowfly vocal snippets...and mortal kombat for the whole theme of the thing.
