I've been really psyched on M/S processing lately, and I'd love to hear about any tips, gear, anecdotes, sordid rumors or whatever you all might have! It's pretty basic, but I've had a lot of direct to stereo hardware jams piling up, and usually the mixes are pretty rough in places. I've had a lot of luck boosting the lows, usually somewhere down in the 60-200 range, a couple DB on the mid channel while rolling them off gently on the side and adding just a bit of clipping (usually with the Klanghelm SDRR). I've found I can usually get away with a lot less EQ and can compress the mix more aggressively without it sounding too squashed. Good for bringing out more detail in recordings of practices and shows, too.

hi guys, i need some nerd help here, just got a harp recording from a friend, she recorded at her home with bad devices, the sounds isn't that bad finally but i just can't have this brightness shine, so far it's moody on 300/600hz and tried to compress a bit, doesn't seem to work well first time i work on a harp recording, anyone done this ? i'd like to get close to this but with more high end

So I was reading some articles about mixing in Live http://www.musictech.net/2013/03/live-9-tutorial-mix-and-workflow-tricks/ And in one part it says that I should divide my work in the "creative" part and the "mixing part" That means I shouldn't worry about mixing while creating? I shouldn't worry if one thing sounds louder or muddy or shit like that until I start the "mixing" part? I used to mix and create all at the same time. Opinions?

Any one know anything about what he's used/his setup on any of his releases? Pretty surprised there's not already a thread on this... The Aphex Twin's studio pics don't really amount to much... For example: Surfing on Sine Waves.. "hmm I think i read he used 3 in tape.. ssl board... lexicon verb.. ua compressor.. etc..." Milkman: "hmmm Sounds like a Moog Voyager going into heavily driven tube pre's" analords: "definitely sylenth, ableton and waves bundle..." (just kidding) Speculation also welcome... I'm assuming this will prob overlap into production a bit which is totally fine :D

okay folks. so i searched as far as 9 months back for a good mastering thread, found nothing. what techniques does everyone use for their own mastering? any suggestions for us with what has/hasn't worked for you? i'm personally using Ableton Live 8 Suite, and can do the basics in Audacity. in the past i've just tried to finish up my tracks, and once i get a tracklist together, i'll try to normalize/compress/etc using the same filters and settings. this seems to help, but it's not anything near professional i'm sure. i'm nearing completion of some releases and am starting to think ahead about mastering.... i've read a few articles over the years on the subject, but nothing i can remember that is particularly helpful. so, besides the obvious suggestion of 'pay someone else to do it,' what are your thoughts on the matter?

RM-Sounds - Sidechain Compression With Ableton's Returns
Guest posted a topic in EKT General Discussion
Hey, I've uploaded a new video tutorial to my youtube channel that may help some of you with your mixing. It discussing sidechain compression and an effective way to apply it to a bunch of tracks at once, for example pumping everything under your kick drum which is the most common example.
