  1. Railway Raver had some really cool releases on Rephlex but then seemed to vanish back in to the 90s Anyone know if he started using a different moniker or what happened to him?
  2. this popped up on twitter recently. nice bit of rephlex history
  3. In the Aphex twin download, theres a 1997 show I passed on ages ago. .. eh, i think it was me who had it from years ago! I'm enjoying it again but it should be pointed out that its probably mostly Cylob (at his very best in my opinion) with a few tracks by Aphex twin at the start only. May it was a collaboration? Don't think so to be honest. Lots of great ulyssesses cartoon samples thrown in! this was an Australian Rephlex showcase i think.
  4. :braindance: :braindance:[youtubehd]sr4uDxUR8Y4[/youtubehd]
  5. New Bochum Welt! 11 Tracks, out on Sep. 6th on Central Processing Unit. 12" + digital Preorders: https://shop.cpurecords.net/album/seafire
  6. I only recently discovered there are two albums worth of outtakes from Onclements and Lactavent. Both were leaked by Aleksi Perala himself around 1999 on his website (or p2p, not sure), so the quality is +-128vbr on the Lactavent Outtakes and 54kpbs on Onclements Outtakes. If you haven't checked it out, you should definitely dig this up! http://www.discogs.com/Ovuca-Onclements-Outtakes/release/447215 http://www.discogs.com/Ovuca-Lactavent-Outtakes/release/2084248 Anyway, I figured a thread on this to not forget these releases would be nice, so: what are your thoughts on this? Imo, the Lactavent Outtakes are way better than the actual album. Lot's of really oldschool warm braindance sounds instead of the chaotic raw Lactavent.
  7. I've been thinking about starting this thread for ages now. Rephlex is, at least in the grand scheme of things, quite a leftfield electronic music label. I remember especially becoming obsessed after listening to the Rephlexions compilation. It's mysterious and reclusive attributes obviously go hand-in-hand with the ways of it's artists. That said, I've quenched many of my questions and overall curiosity over the years regarding the stories and tidbits behind the "main" artists of the label: AFX, Vibert, Cylob, μ-Ziq, DMX Krew, Ceephax, Global Goon, Wisp, Bogdan Raczynski, Aleksi Perälä, etc. Still, there's quite a few releases and signings that still puzzle me: Whatever happened to Sam and Valley? I suppose their signing coincided with Rephlex touring Japan in 98'? Whatever happened to the Gentle People? Anyone every listen to the J.P. Buckle LP? The track of his on Rephlexions was an unexpected earworm after I heard it. Does anyone actually own this release? The one called 100% that consists of mailbox recordings. Anyone here manage to acquire all of the Universal Indicator releases? Freakwincey - I Farted...well to that I must ask why? Why the farting? Who is Dave Nicholls, aka P.P. Roy? He had a mix recently posted and I recall reading that he was the one who found the original copy of Black Devil Disco Club. Other than that, I'm only aware of the two releases at Rephlex. Also, that album cover, it's in that special category of wtf!? that leaves me intrigued everytime I see it. With these potentially being answered, I might risk killing whatever mystery and intrigue Rephlex holds in my mind, but what the hell. It's all about the music, right? I also figure this thread could serve as a general discussion of all the one-off artists who been on the label, many of which I have not listened to. I'd love any recommendations of underrated Rephlex releases. I know many watmmers have more thoroughly browsed the catalog than I have.
  8. i want to share a record i discovered today, called Terra Ferma, by X-Asp and released on Rephlex. it's kind of unknown and hard to find, though there are some vinyl to be sold on discogs, but i instantly loved it. i get to discover new artists pretty much everyday, but this one turned out to be special, because it has a combination of charming spacey pads and melodies with often complex, raw drum programming. as simple as that. this made me feel like when i first listened to steve pictkon's stasis or black dog's bytes (though not establishing a comparison here). it's very hard to find samples and youtube has nothing, but you can listen two of the tracks here: Terra Ferma *2 http://soundcloud.com/user4787471/x-asp-terra-ferma-02-terra-ferma-x2 and my favorite Cloud bass http://soundcloud.com/user4787471/x-asp-terra-ferma-07-cloud-bass There is also a µ-Ziq remix of the track Terra Ferma. post here if you knew it already and if not, hope you enjoy!
  9. Squarepusher’s sonic masterpiece and debut mind-melter of an LP Feed Me Weird Things returns, reissued on double vinyl for the first time since its release on the 3rd of June 1996. Originally released on Rephlex, Aphex Twin himself noted on the sleeve notes of the original that Squarepusher makes “sound like sound never sounded before… Squarepusher gives us the SOUND of SOUND.” Now released on Warp 25 years later, the original album has been remastered from the original DATs and features two extra tracks on a 10 which were first released on the B-side of the Squarepusher Plays… EP and later featured on the original Japanese release of this album. The edition also includes a 16 page booklet with personal photographs, ephemera and notes from Tom Jenkinson, giving us an insight into his early career and into a time of true experimentation and innovation during the mid-90s. To say it was ‘ahead of its time’ feels unsatisfactory, and almost chronologically inaccurate - the wild array of styles it blends makes Feed Me Weird Things seem to exist in a time and space continuum all of its own. Maybe there really were UFOs over Leytonstone? Using the nascent energy and wildly experimental drum programming of jungle as its main rhythmic driving force, Feed Me Weird Things is celebrated for the way it was able to blend and cross-pollinate genres so effectively. Jazz, instrumental dub, trip-hop, UK hardcore, ambient synthesis, seventies cop funk and even a kind of mangled bossa nova are all tied magically together, transcending into a sound uniquely his own. Without delving into the many highlights and moments on the record, it serves as both a snapshot of one of the most vital, experimental periods in the history of UK electronic music and how the young Tom Jenkinson was pushing the boundaries of electronic music, into something well and truly weird, feeding into the canon of electronic music that resonated on into that decade and beyond. https://bleep.com/squarepusher-feed-me-weird-things-warp?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Exclusive+|+Squarepusher+-+Feed+Me+Weird+Things+(Warp)+|+Limited+Edition+Merchandise+|+Just+Announced&utm_campaign=Squarepusher+-+Feed+Me+Weird+Things+(Warp)&vgo_ee=X%2Ff68E0cbmDQVqNOqFxmzxwUnRnlmwiuCIJkd9A7F3A%3D
  10. Now, I was surprised not to find a thread for this since it has been around for a while, a full version is available in the ballacid channel. However I know that a "remastered" version with fixed audio and better sync amongst other things was available on the channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCToSWHTqAl7tNezcRGYc2ng at the address youtu.be/gfc_xp113Oo until it was privated sometime during the last year. I guess this thread is for discussing the vid but also for letting people know if the remastered version ever becomes available again.. edit:
  11. The clear vinyl version is already gone from Bandcamp, but there will be more - on Bleep. You know what to do.
