Also i just discovered cho oyu field recordings, and that gier is a climber/mountaineer. Here are the journals that form the liner notes for the field recordings

Also apparently he was on that expedition when 9/11 occurred.  I'm sure only resident historian @Alcofribas knows what really went down with both william basinski and biosphere on that day..

ECM put out an album by the Danish String Quartet today, including their performance of this Beethoven work - it's really weird hearing all the snippets in their original context after becoming so used to this album.
