greatest verses in hip hop songs

Recommended Posts

I saw that there was a general hip hop thread but I wanted to make one to highlight verses from some heavyweight rhyme writers to use a phrase from Ghostface Killah

These are some of my favorite verses from hip hop songs. What are some of yours?

This one takes the cake for me. It is AZ's verse from the Nas song Life's a Bitch

Honorable mentions

Rakim, My Melody, the whole song

Nas, Live Nigga Rap, third verse

Inspectah Deck, For Heavens Sake, first verse

Jean Grae, Keep Livin, second and third verse

Roc Marciano, Higher Learning, whole song

Phife Dawg, too many to list, I pretty much love all his verses

Recent songs

Benny the Butcher, George Bondo, third verse

Stove God Cooks, Cocaine Cologne, second verse

"And the weather so breezy
Man why can't life always be this easy
She in the mirror dancing so sleazy
I get a call like "Where are you Yeezy?"
And try to hit you with a 'Oeur de Whopee'
Till I get flashed by the paparazzi
Damn, these nigga's got me
I hate these nigga's more than the Nazis"

This is great I really like Kendrick but never heard that verse thanks! That beat sounded familiar and I realized that Roc Marciano rapped over the same sample

Mos Def on Blackstar - Re:definition

most excellent. I feel like Mos Def cannot be beat on socially conscious raps. I really like his song Mathematics and it is one of my favorite dj Premier beats too.

so much of Pharoahe Monch's work in Organized Konfusion is amazing. I love his verse at 2:35 in Releasing Hypnotical Gases.

this gets me every time:

Damn it's hard to breathe...
But if I got one breath left
I'll suck wind from the valley of death

Definitely not the most complex rhyme of all time but GZA's delivery in the first verse of Clan In Da Front is perfect.

The Wu is comin' through, the outcome is critical
Fuckin' wit my style, is sort of like a Miracle
On 34th Street, in the Square of Herald
I gamed Ella, the bitch caught a Fitz like Gerald-
Ine Ferraro, who's full of sorrow
'cause the hoe didn't win but the sun will still come out tomorrow

Thanks for this I never heard of this guy. They kind of sound like Public Enemy and I really like those lines you highlighted, they remind me of one of my favorite Nas lines

And when it's my time to go, I wait for god with the four four

Good thread. Cappadonna's contribution to Winter Warz has gotta be up there for me.

Excellent!

Method Man's second verse ?

Yes it is fire indeed. I argue with my brother all the time about the best Wu lyricist and he always chooses Meth as the most lyrical. It is easy to see why on a verse like this. I kind of prefer Inspectah Deck who is very lyrical but is somehow more raw or agressive and has less finesse in a way it seems.

Thank you. I do not listen to much trap music but I have to give a go, gotta check this guy out. I saw that there is a trap music thread so maybe that is a good place to start too. I looked him up and he is from Atlanta and I should stop sleeping on that city. The only artist I listen to from there a lot is Outkast.
