Looking for tips for a trip to WALES!

I’m planning on being in Cardiff & Newport for a few weeks in July/August and would love any and all recommendations.
Additionally, to all of you parents out there… I’m traveling with my family and, since it will be a work trip, I’m hoping to possibly source out some childcare options. Are there any local agencies or anything in the UK or Wales where we can properly vet nannies, make sure they’re vaccinated, etc??
Thanks in advance, y’all ??

I hear Carn Marth is beautiful.  Redruth should be a nice spot too.

I've never been, but someone I knew in college studied in Cardiff for a while and while they was there they found a 1970s, emerald green, crushed velvet tuxedo for 80 pounds and almost bought it, but then didn't at the last minute because they weren't sure it would fit me.

Keep your eyes open for one of those, don't miss out on it like I did.

BUMP!

Hey there, y’all. I’m going to be returning to Wales in a couple weeks (hopefully… I just learned that my passport is expired so I’m praying for a miracle). I had to use a travel voucher before it expired so the whole thing is a bit half-baked.

What I do know is that I’m flying into Heathrow on the 13th and flying out on the 19th. This time I have virtually zero plan except for maybe the night of the 15th (in Newport). Money is tight so I’m hoping to do the week on the cheap.

Any tips / tricks / hacks on how to save money on rail travel, buses, lodging, food, etc would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, I’m definitely going to revisit all of your incredible suggestions from before ( especially from my main boo @cwmbrancity   ).

Who knows, maybe I’ll follow where the wind takes me and end up in a completely different part of the UK. Maybe now is the time to do that Aphex/Cornwall tour I’ve always wanted to do. Or, I could do a mini tour of the haunted locations from Simon Marsden’s “Haunted Realm” photoessay book.

get wrecked at the inn by the Skirrid and then climb the Skirrid

Don’t know what “Skirrid” is but it sounds like something you do when you’re wrecked.

Missed this first time round.

When I was between 11 and 15 (and a few times over the years when we all grew up) our family holidays were spent at a farm in St Florence which is in the county of Pembrokeshire. It's a beautiful costal county of South Wales. Very similar to Cornwall. As a youngster as a scout we use to go trekking many times to The Brecon Beacons/Black Mountains. Again very beautiful.

I could tell a few stories but I'm Thursday tired but one in particular is well know which me and my mum and sisters still talk about (my father passed away a long time ago but would no doubt agree). When I first heard when young we were going to Pembrokeshire....I tell tomorrow... got things to do....

cardiff is a great city. if you get decent weather, stroll down to the bay (via lloyd george ave), pop down to the barrage, and if the tide's behaving you can walk around to penarth across the beach. will probably take you somewhere between 1hr and 1hr 30m from the city centre, depending on your pace

or if you prefer something a bit different, check out bute park. it's basically right in the middle of the city centre (next to the castle) and takes no time at all to get around. looks extra lush in the autumn too!
