Learning Synths

Really can't go wrong with the old New York School of Synthesis tapes. The actual content AND the presentation.

Not that these are a big secret or anything, obviously, just that this and the Sound On Sound Synth Secrets articles are pretty much it as far as beginner-intermediate synth tutorials go, IMO.

I like hands-on tutorials that come with some synth apps. The Moog app Model 15 for iOS has some really good ones that give you an idea of how subtractive synthesis works. Works good for folks like me who get impatient.

edit:  and on a similar token, good synth editor apps are really helpful for some hardware synths that have crap UI's with lots of menu diving. Patch Base by coffeeshopped has helped me a lot. The Roland D-05 editor is *way* easier to make patches on than trying to do it on the synth itself.
