It jumped out at me. Some of the tones behave, seemingly, identically both in terms of their modulations and their relationships with each other. Crazy if that's an accident.

Untitled sounds the way it does (aggro? intense?) because Sean had had a turbulent couple of years beforehand with family deaths and relationship breakdowns. Some great little pieces of insight again. not fwzE though, i think he said fol3 and fol4 fwzE and it's buffer repeater stuff sounds more like Rob's experiments with NM G2 delay modules and i think bladelores/all end huge reverb was derived from it, kind off. You can do full on reverb topologies in G2 without using stock reverb module and it sounds just lush (iirc you can use bandpass filter module as allpass reverb section. same with G1 but with 2ms of memory you'll get only pretty decent resonator) btw its weird. i switched to renoise from jeskola buzz in 2008 and i always had this suspicion that Rale and WNSN where made in renoise. YELLOW
Not to be totally daft, but I don't know one thing about how Max / MSP works. Can anyone ELI5 for me? Or link to some basic videos? I thought it was more of a "sequencing" software, something you can say "if this, then that," but it seems I'm incorrect. Sean now does everything he needs to right in it without the use of hardware? I thought it was more of a "sequencing" software but it seems I'm incorrect, and Sean now does everything he needs to right in it Max is a visual programming environment, think of it like a programming language like Python but it's rather visual. It has whats called "objects", that u can chain together to your liking, creating algorhithms. For example there is a [saw~] object, which will generate you a sawtooth wave. If u plug in a [numberbox] to it which just allows u to output numbers, and say that numberbox is outputting 440 then u have a sawtooth wave playing on 440 hertz. There is a [metro] which is a metronome, that you can turn on, also give it some time in miliseconds, for example [metro 500] will give you a bang every 500 milliseconds (equivalent to 120bpm). There are thousands of these objects, though the core objects are around a few hundred. Chain these however you wish and you create "patches". There are also a bunch of visual objects like dials, sliders etc. Basically like a gigantic lego collection but it is up to the user what you will create out of it. The user range is pretty wide, from doing live visuals, audio reactive stuff, to making and prototyping instruments (some of the Elektron stuff was protod in Max), building effects, Max4Live devices etc. Ae uses Max in a pretty unique way, they basically create a bunch of patches in the studio that are spitting out different algorhithms and they swap those patches live, allowing them to change controls in real time, since its all generated live, there are no audio files and such in there.

cern
I would dear to say that Max Msp is not even a tool for making music. There are only a handfull people that can arrange and make proper music with Standalone maxmsp which are not just some random patches that loops. Its an engineering tool more than a music tool. Max4Live is one easier way to go. Anyway, It is nice to know how things were done but I like when Ae keeping things secret also.
