Samplebrain

A custom sample mashing app designed by Aphex Twin.

Samplebrain chops samples up into a 'brain' of interconnected small

sections called blocks which are connected into a network by

similarity. It processes a target sample, chopping it up into blocks

in the same way, and tries to match each block with one in its brain

to play in realtime.

This allows you to interpret a sound with a different one. As we

worked on it (during 2015 and 2016) we gradually added more and more

tweakable parameters until it became slightly out of control.

Based on the description this sounds awesome and similar to software Ive been wishing for for ages, loading it up real quick and loaded up a track I made recently and it sounds very interesting, will have to read more int what exactly its doing

this one's all about the algorhythms. grains! spectral or dynamics matching/sorting? does it go into additive type resynthesis areas too? will spend some time checking this out further.

Yeah it uses 93% of my CPU just idling

Yep my PC needed a hard reset after attempting to run it.

Has anyone managed to get anything decent sounding out of it? There's only one YouTube video out there and it sounds pretty weak.

Made an Apache Break out of metasynth exports.  The various sliders don't mean much to me, and I think clicking the 'stereo mode' button during recording broke the wav file, but it's pretty neat overall.  Absolutely feasts on system resources.  Hopefully I'm not mining bitcoin for someone.

I've used it about an hour. Works best SO FAR with really interesting one shots. Minimize the amount of dead space in your imported samples and 'brain contents' section. I uploaded like 14 of my favorite one shots at random and got some awesome drum texture pad effects.

I think i won't get the best results from this thing until I have an intuitive sense of what each parameter will do to the sound. What they do is a lot more complex than most single parameter options. To the point I wish there were more simplified alterations, and also ways to change a sound in increments smaller than 1 in 100. Also automation of the parameters.

I'll make a compilation of the best results and post it here in a few days or something.

Got it working. Just followed the quick start. Added a couple short samples of my own. It's lovely. I really love apps like this where you just play around and it comes up with cool shit by itself. Very fun app.

Just use your fame to get a guy to make a fun interface for CDP, Richard.

PS, doesn't work for my 2017 Mac

iirc he had people helping him write patches and stuff as early as 1995 when he got his laptop

I don't doubt it. Ive chatted with Cylob waaaay back cause we both used supercollider and he said Rich did all his own stuff in SC1. So I wouldn't underestimate him . Rich thinks outside the box. Has a great ear and great attitude. I love his attitude to creating music. Its about fun

Im just super annoyed CDP has been sitting there for years and years open source and nothing has been done. Its the best sounding software for fft out there and nothing. You can hear it in recent Aphex works too. He knows how to use it so why would he want to change it. The sound of the animals with that harmonic streeeetching sound in MT1 t29r2 is CDP.

composers desktop project.

it's free to download but is a pain to use because there's no real interface for it though kinda something for older windows/mac.. but there's a tool to use some of the processes in renoise.
