out of respect, I will not be releasing these to the public per their wishes.

Fair enough (if the email is genuine, as you say). Being an eternal pessimist though, I don't expect to see them appear via Rephlex anytime before I turn 40.

Well, my wish was Granted (ha, pun intended), and Rephlex got in touch with me:

Hi, hope u r well

someone just informed us via watmm , joyrex(?) was planning to release a load of afx old unrel trx, - don’t do that! they will come out with a load more on a boxset or something at some point, best quality. If they r bootlegged prior to this it will scupper any plans. Wot say thee?

Cheers

Best regards

And yes, I did verify it was indeed Rephlex who sent the email. So, out of respect, I will not be releasing these to the public per their wishes. I do certainly hope that these will indeed come out in some form soon (realistically, I can see a few of the tracks, but not all of them are up to par for releasing). I would ask anyone else in possession of these tracks not to distribute them out of anger or spite, and respect the artist's wishes. Although unreleased, they are copyrighted, and are protected under international copyright laws of your applicable country.

That would indeed be awesome, if it happens of course! Empty the vaults Rephlex ;)

For anyone that feels like they're missing out, if you have the 90 second samples Joyrex posted earlier, load them into a wave editor, cut some loops out and loop them into a longer track. You'll pretty much have the same thing as the full tracks.

These tracks are definitely out takes. A few parts put together with little change in the arrangement. I think it's cool to hear where RDJ was at with his audio doodles and sketches from that 1994 time frame, but that's all they really are. It's not like this would have been a "lost album."

When I transferred the MD to WAV, I used optical out/optical in to retain the quality as best as possible. The maximum amplitude on average was 55% of the available dynamic range. Add the tape hiss on top of that, and you begin to understand this was not a quality bootleg recording sonically speaking.

I can understand why Rephlex doesn't want this out floating around. It's not very representative of quality RDJ output and was never meant for us to begin with. That said, I think it'd be cool if they changed their minds. True fans of RDJ and this genre in general would really appreciate it.

As for that whole "boxset" thing, sign me up. I'm not holding my breath on that one, but then again the HAB's being released on CD really surprised me (yes, understand that was WARP.)

I'm not expecting these tracks ever to see the light of day either - and again, like Hijexx said, with the exception of a few, most are outtakes and really not suitable for release. I'd much rather have other tracks he deems "worthy" of a boxset release. All they really need to do is another multi-release series similar to Analord - just call them The Richard D. James Outtakes Vol 1-15 and have tracks grouped by similarity or alias, with commentary on each.

Is this email format common for Rephlex? It looks like a joke to me, though I am ignorant of anything like that concerning Rephlex.

i like the juxtaposition between words like "scupper" and 'thee' and txt speak.

Yeah, that's what I found kind of remarkable as well lol

Guest Pete is your friend

Grant: I sent the email.

Pritchard: Mmm . . . was it verified?

Grant: Yes, the one known as joyrex? traced our location quite quickly actually. I wonder if he knows?

Pritchard: *tears plastic wrapper from Kids In The Hall s.2 with teeth* Mmbmm Fmmbbm Bm BmBmmFm?

Grant: Hmm?

Pritchard: I said did the robot up the Flacs to sendspace?

Grant: No, I sent that pm to him about how if you loop the 90 second samples it fuses the sound together so intensely that the quality is better than the original. He bought it.

Pritchard: These pricks are starting to irritate me. Continue with the Boxset Initiative and hopefully by the end of June they will be so hard up that this little episode will be long forgotten.

Grant: Aye.
