Why not just upload the FLACs to sendspace or even a private directory on the WATMM server? Surely that would be quicker?

Because I don't want to? Is that a good enough reason?

Absolutely, merely making a suggestion.

Sorry bro, snippy this morning, bad sleep.

I'd rather just leave it parcel for now, less chance for it to get passed around without permission if it stays off the wire.

Hi, hope u r well

someone just informed us via watmm , joyrex(?) was planning to release a load of afx old unrel trx, - don’t do that! they will come out with a load more on a boxset or something at some point, best quality. If they r bootlegged prior to this it will scupper any plans. Wot say thee?

Cheers

Best regards

And yes, I did verify it was indeed Rephlex who sent the email. So, out of respect, I will not be releasing these to the public per their wishes. I do certainly hope that these will indeed come out in some form soon (realistically, I can see a few of the tracks, but not all of them are up to par for releasing). I would ask anyone else in possession of these tracks not to distribute them out of anger or spite, and respect the artist's wishes. Although unreleased, they are copyrighted, and are protected under international copyright laws of your applicable country.

Fair enough (if the email is genuine, as you say). Being an eternal pessimist though, I don't expect to see them appear via Rephlex anytime before I turn 40.

That would indeed be awesome, if it happens of course! Empty the vaults Rephlex ;)

For anyone that feels like they're missing out, if you have the 90 second samples Joyrex posted earlier, load them into a wave editor, cut some loops out and loop them into a longer track. You'll pretty much have the same thing as the full tracks.

These tracks are definitely out takes. A few parts put together with little change in the arrangement. I think it's cool to hear where RDJ was at with his audio doodles and sketches from that 1994 time frame, but that's all they really are. It's not like this would have been a "lost album."

When I transferred the MD to WAV, I used optical out/optical in to retain the quality as best as possible. The maximum amplitude on average was 55% of the available dynamic range. Add the tape hiss on top of that, and you begin to understand this was not a quality bootleg recording sonically speaking.

I can understand why Rephlex doesn't want this out floating around. It's not very representative of quality RDJ output and was never meant for us to begin with. That said, I think it'd be cool if they changed their minds. True fans of RDJ and this genre in general would really appreciate it.

As for that whole "boxset" thing, sign me up. I'm not holding my breath on that one, but then again the HAB's being released on CD really surprised me (yes, understand that was WARP.)

I'm not expecting these tracks ever to see the light of day either - and again, like Hijexx said, with the exception of a few, most are outtakes and really not suitable for release. I'd much rather have other tracks he deems "worthy" of a boxset release. All they really need to do is another multi-release series similar to Analord - just call them The Richard D. James Outtakes Vol 1-15 and have tracks grouped by similarity or alias, with commentary on each.

I mean, the guy shits gold and sweats diamonds...I can never understand why he won't just get more of the electronic music greed that's welling up lately and release the bits he obviously has. Autechre just released a more than 200 minute album that's based on about 60 minutes of material for nearly $100 all said and done. Think of the huge catalogue that other rock artists have and so what if some of is shite, they're millionaires. Shit, make a dubstep 12" that cannonballs all other contenders out of the water.

I don't know, I guess I'm just a capitalist pig.

i like the juxtaposition between words like "scupper" and 'thee' and txt speak.

i think it's probably for the best anyway... not that i have any illusions of rephlex doing an afx boxset in the near future or anything - but essentially they were just some random tracks that aphex was working on that got nicked by some guy! kind of a low move really.

as it is, the minute samples are a nice little peek though and it's probably better to keep it that way. a boxset of selected tracks from the presumably 1000s there must be lying around? great! some sort of gnarly sketches that the creator probably doesn't want to to hear? not so great. quality over quantity i think.

Is this email format common for Rephlex? It looks like a joke to me, though I am ignorant of anything like that concerning Rephlex.
