i have a pile of ekt cds

every now and again i'll burn a new cd with whatever standout trackx i havent already burnd

i do mixsets online pretty regularly and often use a few ekt tunes in there

wisp was probably my most listened to artist in 2005

i regularly listen to tunes by phasic, wisp, cats on earth, forlon, beak, fieldtriqp, 7pd, yann g and a few others

though i haven't really checked out the YLC forum very regularly this year

Linndrum Larry Cocopipe's 77 track "Unstarted" collection is one of my most played things i've listened to all year

I listened to pretty much nothing else but that for about a month after downloading it

And burned 2 excellent full cd compilations (unstarted 32 and unstarted 30)

with enough left over to fill half a C90

true it becomes harder & harder to sift through the all the crap, but i gotta say that i discovered some of my favorite music here... zephyr nova, plugexpert, wisp, kcinsu's pyractomena borealis, basi goreng.. so i still keep an eye on YLC...

It's not a place I go to find new music that I'm going to listen to on a regular basis. I just go there to give and recieve feedback, and obviously get my music heard by a few people here who might not necessarily hear my music otherwise. And I've heard some good tracks on there too, good tracks that aren't "doomed" simply because they've been posted on a public forum. A record label isn't going to care where you've already posted your music. Selling potential is selling potential.

not according to benbecula if i remember correctly

why sign someone when they are willing to give it all away for fuck all?

Because when that artist's giving something away themselves for nothing, that record company isn't making any money from it. Of course, if the record company's doing what it does because they genuinely care about good music, then they sign the artist on in order to promote their stuff to a wider audience.

Guest my usernames always really suck

people make too many shit tracks and post them knowing they are throwaways.

there is that. I generally don't even enter the thread if it says "unfinished", or "sketch", or "1:02" or whatever. An "unfinished crap" sub sub forum would be good.

Don't the people with WIPs need more advice and feedback than the people who've fucking finished a song? That would be the point of posting a WIP, to get feedback on it and helping the artist break their creativity rut with ideas.

i think it is the inherant sort of throw-awayness of some of what's posted on EKT... "here's a track i made in 2 minutes with my new 606"...

fuck off with the personal attacks, will ya. i just got the thing and i was pretty excited and just wanted to record something. fucking elitist fucker

i like to think of unfinished tracks as sketches

on an art forum, no one complains about the sketches that are abound with like "OH MY GOD THERES SO MANY CRAP UNFINISHED SKETCHES I WANT LOTS OF PRETTY DETAILS TO LOOK AT, NOT SOME FUCKING ROUGHS OR IDEAS"

sketches are even more important than finished work, anyone can make details with some time and polish, getting a good basic idea for a track, a good sketch so to speak, is infinitely harder.

EKT is in my opinion a place for people to exchange and post their ideas, and get comments by people to hear their impressions, not a place for lazy people to get quick fixes for free music

i don't think i've ever made a properly finished and mastered track, because almost all my tracks are ideas and roughs. when i'm satisfied at my style with music, i'm going to make it shiny and loud and all that stuff idiots like.

oh okay man, shit, i'm really sorry about those words..

i kinda automatically thought you mentioned me because i posted just that kind of track when i got my 606 not too long ago! seems alot of people have one, maybe it's the most popular EKT instrument after the microkorg?

friends?
