The only thing i'm not pleased with is the pad, but otherwise i think this is a pretty proper tune.

What do you think?

sounds horribly generic. not the amen, I love that, but I mean the structure. the way the beat just drops and the pads come in at the beginning struck me as really predictable. even further, the beat comes back in pad-less, and then they segue in. not enough change.

the pads themselves don't seem to go with the amen at all. I get the strange feeling like you just took an unfinished song, dropped amen fuckery on top of it and called it a track.

I wasn't really trying to blow anyones mind, but i see what you're saying about the break. I feel that the pads fit nicely in the song, but i'll be the first to admit that i'm not all that good at making synths like that mach the breaks. However, I'd like a second opinion before i go in to fix anything.

PS: this is kinda ironic, seeing that i called one of derelict7's tracks generic today

you gave me honest constructive criticism and i really appreciate that, i'll try to return the favor.

its pretty generic, badly produced "random" electronic music sort of, amen break fuckery is dull, bass is too wide imho and not quite coherent with the melody

theres too much going on in the same frequencies, the bass takes focus off the chord thing that's going on.

i like some of the chord progressions

the zero attack pad entering later on is way too cheesy even for me

in general it feels like the track lacks a motif, but theres some nice ideas going on. it could use reverb, more elements and elaboration on the themes youre putting out

Thanks man, i really appreciate the honesty!

Put the bass to the lower frequencies and the keys to the higher. Placed the cheesy pad around the middle freqs, and everything ended up sounding horrible.

first off, i amd tired of the amen break in general. that being said, i liked the way it sounded here and i liked the pads, especially the bass on this track.

i like this track as kind of a retro electronic music throwback track, maybe something 1995 squarepushery. i didnt really find any disconnect between pads and percussion. sounded like a solid old school drill track.

Yeah I also don`t like the breaks, they sound amateurish to me. But here is a kiss : * ;)

I like the pads and the mellody, it really reminds me of []pusher, yeah. But generaly I don`t like it cuz the break destroys the whole thing.

Keep up!

Amateurish in what way? Badly programmed or just simple? I didn't really feel like adding any drills or pitch shifting to the drums, cuz they didn't need any.

Hmmm, I would say badly programmed or just not my style I guess. ; )

That seems really vague. I am tempted to ask exactly what you found to be wrong, but that would probably be nagging... Is it the lack of drills? It's the lack of drills, isn't it? I tried drills and it didn't work out! What more do you want from me?! What more?!!!!!!!!1

I can guarantee it isnt because of a lack of drills, its just that this was the type of thing that was horrendously popular a few years ago on EKT and I think just referring to the term "drill" will put people off. That being said, I dont really dig the melodies or the programming of the breaks, but you have shown a good sense of production, maybe try some new breaks or maybe make some of your own, I think in this day in age the amen is reserved for the stricly tongue in cheek or the VERY VERY talented.

edit: i didnt mean to say you arent talented, but i mean folks like []pusher and snares seem to be some of the few that can still pull off an amen break with originality...well, maybe not originality. :)

Thanks man! I could understand if pawwa told me my programming sucked, but i would want to know why, so that i could improve. I like the drums in this track, as the bassline and all that is too shifting to allow really spastic drums, but one can't really be trusted to accurately judge one's own music... To some degree...

Thanks for the comment anyway! Cheers!

Its not that bad. I'm a sucker for big sounding chords. Okay yes Amen is used a lot but its a fucking strong beat. There are reasonable sounding Detroit style chords in here which I myself would probably use in a track. I think it could do with a few extra layers and perhaps a bit more coherence and interplay. I can hear a lot of potential in what you're doing here. I think the sounds you've used for the pads/chords/bass/strings are a bit shit sounding though.

Yeah definitely like it when you bring in the jazzy Squarepusher chords .... nice. Seems to be a little off keyness at certain points too. Yeah this track could definitely do with some stronger sounds definitely and some stronger notes at points. Also it does seem to get a bit too samey/repetative after a while but I can hear potential in what you're doing so definitely keep it up.

im not tired of the amen break at all

but i think the deeper synth shouldve

propelled the track rather than the hi

register one which repeats throughout.

youve got plenty of variation melodical

ly, maybe loosen up the drumbs and re

introduce them with 16th-note hi-hats

before dropping back in with the synths.
